Here is a breakdown of the group food that we will be bringing for our 8-day canoe trip through the backcountry of Algonquin Provincial Park.
We cook as a group in camp for breakfast and dinner. This makes it much more efficient because we only bring one stove and one set of cookware. Typically we cook over the campfire if possible, but we won't be for this trip because there is a full fire ban in most of Ontario. During the day everyone brings their own snacks for lunch on-the-go.
We split the group food up evenly and each of us carries a share in our backpacks. This eliminates the need for a large food barrel to portage. Then at night we put it all together and hang it up in a large dry bag. This system has worked pretty well for several years now. I hope this helps you in planning your own meals!

Hey @ian young I keep looking on your channel for some videos about a 2019 canoe trip. I sure hope you made it out to the wilderness this past summer.

I use a similar system. I dehydrate my own meals, keep em in a bag, hang all the food in a dry bag. I've never used a bear barrel. Always thought they were a luxury item (no judgement to those who use them). Have a great trip dude! Im gearing up for my August trip as well.

When I first saw people using the barrels I thought they were bear-proof. When I found out they’re just a big plastic bucket I didn’t understand why anyone would carry that huge thing. Guess it’s more of a tradition thing. Thanks!

Great video, really organized. Can you touch on the types and sizes of pots and pans you use. I normally go on two man trips and we use a small pot but with an upcoming trip there will be six of us and I'm not sure what to pack without overdoing it.

We use a 3Qt pot, a 1Qt pot, and a 10” pan. That was plenty for 5 people, probably fine for 6 too. We cook the noodles/rice etc in the big one while rehydrating in the small one. The pan is for breakfast stuff. We also usually bring an enamelware kettle for coffee. I have a video of how we cook in camp, a gear video, and I show our meals usually in my trip videos too.

Did the dehydrated eggs turn out well?. Im thinking about getting into the dehydration game so meal prep is easier for long canoe/hiking hauls.

Yes! They worked great. I will definitely do them myself in the future. Much cheaper than store bought.

@@IanYoungOutdoors do you have a video of the Egg process? Also measurements of how much water needed to reconstitute those eggs?
