This is a look at our food pantry, canning room, and long term veggie storage area. This space is so important as we have a stock pile of items to enjoy all year long. Plus most of the items in this room were grown in our garden so we know the food is healthy and never sprayed.
Our pantry will soon be changing with the move and we will have to come up with a new space to store this food that is very important to our way of life. Also, we have goals about expanding our home canning in the future to include many more meals!
Check out the video for a tour of the food pantry!

You can use your applesauce when baking… 1:1 exchange for oil

I use my tomato jam in savory stuff too. Love it on grilled cheese sandwiches or a breakfast sandwich with eggs. Also great in marinades.

Very nice panty. I like keeping it by years. I finally had to get rid of about 50 jars. Much older than what you have. I’m working my way through. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching and commenting. Grouping by years has helped me as I’ve had to get rid of stuff before too. I bet it was tough to dump 50 jars, sorry!!

Thanks for subscribing! I think it’s so important to stock up and I love knowing where the food came from that goes into the jars.

Hi this is my first time on your channel. It's nice to see young people growing and preserving like I do. I see your winter squash and wanted to share what I did for the first time ever. I can't say that too much anymore (I've never done that before). I'm 66. Anyway I grew a winter squash for the first time ever. It's called cushaw. They are about 2-3 times the size of a butternut squash, which I love. Apparently you can eat them as a vegetable, make pie with them, and make soup with them. But a warning to the wise. Grow them in a separate area because they like to spread out. A lot. My vines grew at least 30 feet and strangled the daylights out of my other vegetables. Plus last growing was incredibly dry here in Wisconsin. I planted a hill of about 20 seeds and I got 9 of these mammoths. I haven't eaten any yet but they are a winter squash so what's not to like? Plus they are an heirloom variety, so you can take the seeds to grow next year, or, if you dont want to plant the entire state of Montana, you can roast them as a snack. I'm going to save seeds from one squash and roast the rest. Because I only have 5 acres here. Thank you for your pantry tour.

Hello! Thanks for your comment. We are planting on adding cushaw squash to our garden next year so I enjoyed your comment. We did a taste test on the channel of various winter squash and cashaw stood out. We sautéd it and it was pretty yummy. Thanks for the comment!

@@MontanaMidValleyFarm yet another way to cook cushaws? Thank you! Be sure to keep your cushaws planted far away from your other vegetables so it doesn't spread right over the top of them!

Your applesauce reminds me that I have a small orchard here and this year was the best year ever. Large apples, and a ton of them clustered so plentifully they reminded me of grapes. I canned 42 quarts of applesauce, 7 quarts of apple pie filling and about 20 jars of apple butter. Plus I didn't even have to get on a ladder this year because there was so much there. Can you imagine how much I would have had if I did get up on a ladder? All that I picked were just what I could reach from the ground. Plus I was really sick of putting the apples up.

@@MontanaMidValleyFarm I've spoken with people all over the country and except for an area in New York state it was a similar situation as I have had. Apparently that New York state area had a hard frost after the blossoms had set, I planted these trees in 2005 and 2006. What I harvested was from 5 trees. I'm honestly surprised that I got so much apples because of having so little rain in the summer. I ordered my trees from Stark Brothers. They stand behind their products. I wanted to try ordering for a fall planting but it came in December and I lost those trees even though I tried to think ahead and dug the holes. I sent them a message about the trees dying and they replaced them in the spring. They also keep a list of what you ordered that the customer can access.

I enjoyed this very much so I've subscribed and I'm looking forward to more. If you have apricot jam, make a battenberg cake. It's definitely the best jam for it and the one traditionally used.

i really enjoyed watching this, just one suggestion, i would move the paint from beneath your food, paint offsets chemicals and you don't want those to be absorbed into your food.

Thanks it’s a space I’d like to reorganize again anyways, but now with the move it will be reorganized. I’ll keep that in mind.

Luckily we don’t in this space! If we did things would need to be stored differently for sure.
