If you are leaving from cst stn.,there is a variety of food you can carry with you.Vada pav,burgers etc from around the stn.Definitely beter than train stuff.
The earlier menu of DQ pantry car was much better.I have been travelling by this train since 1970. Till the introduction of the new rake, the Pantry Car (PC) was non ac & food was prepared inside PC.The menu had colonial touch where Chicken Cutlet, Fish & Chips, Baked Beans & Butter with tost were available. Food & Bevrages was served in China dinner set with Fork, Knife& spoon. Those days Pantry car had diff Charm & Atmosphere.
There was some case before independence against railways.. Kalyan municipal body filed case against railways regarding some tax and court ordered to seize engine of Deccan qeean.. railway department paid the amount and then in revenge they stopped giving stoppage to Kalyan.. so till now it doesn't stops at kalyan
Deccan Queen dont have any official halt at Kalyan..it has halt only towards csmt to pune 1 way at Karjat for Engine add due to high elevate of bhor ghat.
I literally walked from my 2S seat to the dine in car. So many people from my coach were dining in and enjoying the food. There is no such rule where only AC coach passengers can dine in, it is open for all passengers
