Well some of character parodies are sung by their real life inspirations: Tone Loc, Neil Sedaka, Little Richard, The Pointer Sisters, and Chubby Checker.
I was obsessed with this as a kid...so upset when it closed. Not to mention any time I hear "every breath you take" I sing the lyrics to this...my husband thinks I'm nuts.
BRING BACK FOOD ROCKS... I am 15 years old and I remember watching this EVERY time I went to Epcot. I know they have Soarin' now... I go to Disney almost every weekend so I'm aware that it was just to have something new and exciting added to The Land, but if they could put this somewhere else in The Land or even in the Welcome Center by The Universe of Energy then that would make me very happy... I miss this :(
I remember this! Oh my god this has been driving me nuts.. I bring it up with my parents and they have no clue what I was talking about. I use to beg them to see this show every single time as a very young kid. Funny part is... I never really listened to the "message" or "meaning" I just really like the songs they parodied lol
I loved this when I was a kid and watching it now I still love it. I always had to go see this show every time we went. I was heartbroken when they replaced it with Soarin'. This was a big part of my childhood and growing up.
If you didn't see this when you were a small little one, you won't get why some people love it so much... Going to this is one of my best childhood memories!
The good news is that the stage is still there! But... all the animatronics are gone:( next time your at epcot ask some cast members at the front desk of soarin if you can see the stage, its directly behind the wall that they stand infront of!
Thank you! So glad this will live on forever. My best friend and I loved this attraction. We would visit it several times each trip. Always made us laugh. In high school we loved to make up our own lyrics to songs, so this attraction really hit a note with us!
Pattie Boy I totally agree! I missed this show so much! I know it's not as great as the Soarin attraction, but I wish they had kept this somewhere in The Land. I remember going when I was early on in high school! Veggie veggie fruit fruit!!! :)
I was watching a video list of abandoned Disney attractions and this was on of them. After hearing that they parodied popular songs, I had to come and see if there was a video of them and I am so happy I found this. This is probably the most genius Disney Land has ever thought, it is a shame they abandoned it. I do not support the nefariousness of Disney but on the surface, they are inadvertently sending a good message to children which is far more than any evil deeds they may have in the background. The goodness will win in the end.
The reason why Kitchen Kabaret changed into Food Rocks is because Epcot wanted to make something Modern since the 90’s came along. That’s also why Epcot renovated Journey Into Imagination.
The other songs included: -Every Breath You Take (That's the song you thought was I'll Be Watching You) -Sledgehammer -Funky Cold Medina -It's In His Kiss -Tutti Fruity -Breaking Up is Hard to Do -The Twist -Respect The only original song was the song sung by Excess
I remember this attraction vividly. I also remember being legit upset when they took it out. I obviously like Soarin more now, but at the time it was devastating.
Im watching this video because i smelled somethinf that i had only ever smelled when i was at food rocks, so of course i had to watch it! Loved food rocks so much when i was younger!
I never got to see this, but I was reading information on EPCOT since I'm a huge Disney fan and like to read trivia. I've heard of almost all the attractions and shows and for some reason I never heard of "Food Rocks". I read the info and decided to look it up and I was laughing along with the lady in the audience since I got all the references (huge music fan when it comes to older music). It's a shame it's gone now.
I remember seeing this on my second trip to epcot at the Walt Disney world resort (it replaced kitchen cabaret which also had singing food) and it was awesome seeing food items sing songs that were similar to songs from the 1950's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's plus they taught me something about nutrition.
YOOOOO!! I never realized that Dave Matthews Band's Sledgehammer was in this show, I wondered why I loved that song when I heard it and I swear it has to be from this show being ingrained in my brain as a child.
I saw this I think the year before it closed. I was ten and didn't know most of the songs yet...it's cool coming back to it now and actually getting the jokes!
This is one of those elusive things I have memories that felt like a dream. Despite all the rides I really enjoyed the atmosphere of sitting in this center. I wish there were places like this in every town, daily life would be more interesting. Not necessarily the animatronic food things though 😂
We went on this once one years ago and never did it again we did not do Epcot that much as a kid. The great movie ride along with many other attractions we never did. We definitely did not do any of the coster except thunder mountain once when I wad like 13. My dad had a problem with his heart and the youngest sister had stunt growth so we limited on what we could do. Back in the early 1990 and1980s they did not have the fast passes at Disney.
So let me try and guess what ones are the right ones. I know I'll get them right Pineapple - Lil' Richard (tutti frutti) Peach Boys - Beach Boys (Every breath you take) Fish - Cher (It's in his kiss (shoop shoop song) Wrapper - Tone Loc (Funky Cold Medina) Pitta Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (Sledgehammer) Chubby Chedda - Chubby Checker (The Twist) Chocolate - Aretha Franklin I haven't a clue what the others are apart from the beginning and ending which is Queen Bohemian Rhapsody lol
I used to watch this show every time we went to Disney. I went from the time I was about 2 til about 9 or 10. I used to jump around on the food on the carpet, smell the smell boxes and get so excited when the show started. I want Disney to bring it back. Soarin' is ok, but food rocks was much better. I would give anything if I could see the show live again.
Between this and the Under New Management version of the Enchanted Tiki Room, it seems that for a while all audio animatronic shows at Disney World needed to be "relevant" in order to be successful. Makes you wonder if they ever considered turning the Country Bear Jamboree into the Punk Rock Bears Live In Concert. Tone Loc is made of win, but he's not saving this show. I mean, the PEACH BOYS? Seriously?
I wouldn't know about the nostalgia behind 'Kitchen Kabaret' or even this, because I never even got to see either one. this does seem like it was pretty interesting in its day, though.
DON'T TALK WATCH!!! DON'T TALK WATCH!!! YOU CAME HERE TO WATCH IT!!!! DON'T LIKE IT, WALK OURT!!!! WE STILL HAVE ALL YOU FUCKIN.....MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I had a lot of money I will make a park filled with defunct Disney part attractions called Disney’s defunctland with defunct parts from each parks around the world and defunct meet and greet characters and non meet and greet charathers
Neil Sedaka and Chubby Checker were in this, also [I think] the actual Little Richard. I know they got a fair amount of celebrities to voice these characters, at least.
Did they have the same set as Kitchen Kabaret? Because it looks simelar to it. You Know, just look at a picture of the finale in Kabaret. Bonnie and Fud are in the same spot, Krackpots and Peach Boys, Hamm and Eggz and U-tensils, and Milky Way Stars and Refrigerator Police.
