Belgians eat large quantities of fries, mussels, chocolate and waffles while drinking large quantities of beer but NOT all on the same day, or even week.

Wow, i'm not surprised you didn't feel well after a while. When drinking Belgian beers, especially when you're going into a session of several, the clue is really to eat sufficiently beforehand or at the very least during. The high alcohol volumes in the beers really can exert their toll on the body. This is best counterbalanced with some food, preferably a proper meal. By that i mean that a shared waffle and a a shard cone of fries simply isn't sufficient in balance to the amount of beers you drank. It's a common mistake. That's not saying you drank too much, but rather you ate too little for what you were drinking. However, that being said, there are of course always other possibilities or reasons why you might not have felt well. Still, when drinking Belgian beer it's wise to balance it out with sufficient food.
