I love Rīga and want there again and again. You were wondering about the writing. I can't speak or understand Latvian, but I have understood that in their writing system the long wovels are marked with that line on top of the letter just like in Rīga's name. A different way than eg. in Finnish and Estonian where long wovels are written with double letter.
Rye soup is actually a local tradition in Central Finland, but it's not a dessert, but a savory porridgle-like sour soup. It's basically the same sour dough as the one used for rye bread, but with more water. It's nearly forgotten now, though. I haven't ever even tasted it myself.
@@AshAndDan. We got pastries and dumplings. It was all quite nice. Also, we got lots of snow and no rain, so it sounds like we were luckier than you guys with respect to weather!
Nice one, the dumplings were good! Riga was the worst weather of our trip so far - so grey and rainy! I bet it looked magical in the snow when you were there ❄️
