@@chrispixxherr4650 That's why amounts are listed by mass, not volume, on labels. Otherwise, there would be morons that say things like "that's less than a teaspoon" when in reality you just ate more salt, in a single can of chili, than you should consume in a day.
Americans eat on average about 3,400 mg of . However, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans limiting to less than 2,300 mg -that's equal to about 1 teaspoon of ! One other thing to add. With the daily recommended intake of water, say 8 cups cups or 2 litres; it's not advisable you drink 2 litres in one sitting. That's just common sense. Now imagine eating that amount of sodium in one sitting and how your body would cope with that. Damn, is right.
Try their regular blue label chilli. It will go from the rooter straight to the tooter. Eating it while on the toilet is correct. 1/4 of the can is grease. Thanks for trying this for us the people.
Could you do a video on Popeye's new chicken sandwich. Everyone is going nuts and comparing it to Chick-fil-A. I'm on a diet right now so no fast food for me.
Great video! My neighbor gave me a can of Castleberry's Food Truck Stout Beef Chili the other day, because he didn't like it, and he knows that I like craft beer. I just tried it tonight, which is why I'm here online looking for reviews on it to see if anyone in the world could like it. I thought it was the worst tasting chili I've ever had in my life, and I've tried hundreds of different chilis. I've eaten a ton of them at chili cook offs, and I've eaten just about every canned variety there is. I also make a mean chili myself. Although I don't consider it real chili, the stuff at Steak 'n Shake tastes OK, Hormel chili is eatable, but Wolf Brand Homestyle Chili is the best I've ever had from a can. Castleberry's hotdog chili is fine for cheap chili dogs, but Wolf Brand with no beans is much better. If anyone ever offers me Castleberry's Food Truck Stout Beef Chili again, I'll tell them to toss it in the trash.
I remember when I was a kid, I told my dad, who was a chef, that I knew how to make chilli. So he challenged me and told me to make it for dinner. So I actually had no idea. This was before the internet. So I got some ground beef, hamburger helper, sloppy joe mix, beans, and celery. Then I mixed it all together. He came home and took one bite and was like WTF. hahaha
I agree, best meal on a cold day is a bowl of steaming hot Chili, and both of those sound really good, which is weird, cause I really don't like beer, but the stout beef chili sounds great, though, I bet Larry could make a better stout beef chili.
*10 out of 10 on the chicken chili, not bad Larry, very few items that you and the family have taste tested has me wondering where in Colombia S/A do I purchase it?* 🍲
To “Wolfe Pit,” or anyone.. Do you happen to know where you can buy that exact White Chicken Chili? It looks good! Great Vid! I enjoy watching the taste tests, & he’s hilarious! Lol! 👍🏼👍🏼
Gremlin Thanks soo much! I guess it doesn’t sell it in my areas. Either my part of Canada or Virginia, & Tennessee! But I’ll physically check out my Walmart’s! 😉 Greatly appreciated my friend!
Larry, just do what i do, when you make your homemade chili, make a big batch for about 3 family meals. Freeze 2 batches in even family portions, and then have your one family portion for the day you are eating. You can also portion out a couple of individual servings for freezing when you get the crave , but nobody else wants any. Its what i do in rural ky. Keep chili on hand. btw, use good freezer containers for the chili, they are worth an extra buck. Also, castleberry is a huge favorite chili in this area, folks even put it on hot dogs and burgers , have a great day buddy

I wonder if this company makes a "normal" chili. Because I'm not a fan of beer or beer flavor, so I'd hate that stout chili. But I'm definitely going to give the chicken chili a go
I've had good chicken chili from Jason's Deli, so the chicken chili looked really good! I think I'd like the beef chili alright if they toned down the stout. Too beery a flavor would not play well for me. BTW, really like the folksy style of your videos.
Great review Larry, for some reason I have always assumed Castleberry was a low quality brand. I will have to give them a try, I think they make a hot dog chili sauce as well.
I'm glad your family is helping with the videos since I'm addicted to them and need my supply! I can't get either of those here in Podunk yet but WallyWorld days they'll have it soon. Thanks Larry and keep it up bro.
I made chili last night. I forgot to get beans but remembered I had a can of chickpeas in the pantry so I took a chance. I am so glad I did because it was delicious and I actually prefer the chickpeas instead of the beans.
I LOVE Chicken chili, especially homemade, so Im going to have to give this one a try. I do not drink Or like beer, so I'll be skipping the beer chili. ;)
Peanut butter is a superfood. It goes with everything; ice cream, bacon, hamburgers, ramen, chocolate, tomatoes, bananas, yogurt, pancakes, etc., and it's shelf-stable.
1.7 grams of sodium is huge lol. That’s feeling your arteries constricting kinda levels of salt. But I gotta say I’m going to try the chicken chili. I saw that on sale the other day in my Publix but didn’t give it a second glance but after that perfect 10 I’m sold on trying at least
Nothing, I mean nothing is SALTIER than Campbell's Bean with Bacon soup. 2180 mg. of sodium in that little can. No, I'm not kidding. Delicious, but deadly. I challenge anyone to come up with anything saltier.
I see by the video of your chili that, like me, you like whole bits of meat in it. Here is my current favorite simple chili recipe, derived from trial and error...much, much error. 1.75 - 2 lbs lean beef cut into 1/4” pieces or coarse ground * 2 15oz. cans Petit Diced Tomatoes with green chilies 1 15oz. can tomato sauce 2 15oz. cans pinto beans 1 large sweet onion, diced 1 Tbs. Chili powder 1 Tbs. Chipotle chili powder 2 tsp. Ground cumin 1 Tbs. Dried oregano Optional 1/3 cup masa harina (corn flour) dissolved in 2/3 cup water * I use round steak about 1/2” - 3/4” thick. I slice it with the grain into strips about 1/4” thick. Then I cut those strips across the grain about 1/4” thick. By the time the chili has simmered for an hour or more, the meat will be perfectly tender. Brown the meat in a couple of tablespoons of oil in a large deep pan like a Dutch oven. Add the onions and cook until just tender. Optionally, use a few ounces of beef stock or beer to deglaze the pan. If you choose not to, the juice from the tomatoes will do the job pretty well. Add the tomatoes and beans, including canning liquid, and seasonings, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer gently for at least an hour. Stir frequently to prevent sticking and add liquid if needed (remember that beef stock or beer? Or plain water). When you are ready to serve, if the chili is thinner than you like, make a slurry with the masa flour and water and stir it in until you get the consistency you like. You may ask about salt. The canned tomatoes probably had enough for the whole recipe but, as always, taste and adjust as needed. Remember, chili is an art form, so use this as a base for your own creativity. Experiment with dried or fresh chili peppers and other seasonings.
I can attest that the adobo lime chili is definitely the best canned food on the market. It is really perfect right out of the can but I like to add a little bit of cheddar and some cumin. As for the Stout chili, I tried it once because I like the chicken chili so much but didn't notice the word stout on the can. Needless to say I had everyone in the house smell it because it smelled like a strong beer and we bought that it was bad so I threw it away then later looked at the can and realized it said Stout lol. If I would have seen that prior I probably would have ate the chili just to try it but either way I wouldn't have bought it again because the beer smell is way too overpowering.
So, the ADOBO LIME WHITE CHICKEN CHILI, was it real spicy? You said it was medium heat, but you didn’t say how hot, if it was eye, watering hot or not. I can’t eat foods that are too hot.
9 grams of sugar? since when did chili have sugar....i must admit I love sugar but having it in chili just seems odd to me. i guess its no where as weird as the super cheap steak that had corn syrup solids.
I like the kind you used to get at old-timey diners like the Wimpy's and Chicky when I was very young in the '50s and '60s. The beef was pretty obviously cooked like their burgers: smashed on a heavy grill, with a crust on the outside. That Wimpy's invented the foot-long hot dog in 1937 and they had a great chili hot dog sauce for it.
Yanno what? I'm totally fine with the not-so-healthy load on this one. Pretty much 30%+ of protein RDA, and 36% of fiber RDA, is a welcome trade-off for the sodium and fat levels in this. I'll still always prefer the Wolf brand for canned chili, though.
I have only once eaten canned chili. It is super hard to find some in my country. It was definetly not the greatest thing but I guees it could have been better with rice. I make my own chili. Its easy and tasty.
I did work work for a catering company that was basically a supply warehouse for Generis catering trucks for a very short time, it was basically a 3am to 7am job, they let the people park their food trucks there overnight, etc, It was basically a shop the food truck operators would come in, by what they needed for the morning, kind of crazy, breakfast sandwiches, you name it, almost everything was prepackaged, they would remove the wrappers, but them in the heating racks, a lot of the stuff in the trays, same thing, almost everything you would see on or in a food truck they sold. Some people didn't have to buy everything from us, but if you were renting a truck, yeah you did. Symbiotic relationship. I was working on a job site in Bristol CT, when the Food truck showed up it was break time. Some people would make their own food to sell, this one lady made the weirdest hot dog chili ever. I asked for a chili dog, steamed hot dog, chili on top and it was pretty watery. But it was like a flavor filled juice that soaked partially into the bun. At first I thought I would hate this chili, It didn't look 'right' even though it had meat, beans, everything, it was just a thin chili. When the liquid soaked into the bun, it worked. I was hooked, everyday we worked there, that was my lunch, at least 2 weeks. It was genius, wish I got the recipe.
You will hate me for this but when I make a big ol' pot of chili and freeze it its beans and rice. i control the sodium and if I want meat when I eat it I brown up some beef, venison, pork or whatever and simmer it on the stove for a while.
I bought a can of Wolf brand chili a few years back at a Dollar General. I was not familiar with the "Wolf" name so I bought it to compare it to Hormel which I am familiar with. I took it home, heated it and started eating away, it was alright, nothing compared to what I cook but I wasn't expecting anything more than a crappy canned chili product, I was just hungry and strapped for time. Anyway, about half way through the bowl I found a vein, about an inch long piece of artery which pretty much grossed me out, so no more Wolf chili for me. That's the story I tell my kids at bedtime, the big, bad, Wolf thing. I hope you enjoyed it too.
all of your videos lately have been beef beef beef beef hamburger beef. i don't eat beef! could you mix it up and do some non-beef videos? i would appreciate it! been a fan for a long time
stout & beef. 2 bottles of Guinness, a 6 lb chuck roast, parsnips, onions and organic multi colored carrots, salt and pepper. Sear chuck roast, put in slow cooker, add onions, parsnips and multi colored carrots, pour in 2 bottles of Guinness Extra stout, salt and pepper. Cook for 4 hours on high. Banging.
One would think chili is one of those preparations which would can well. Which is why it's disappointing to see people getting it wrong. Granted, Stout is a hard beer to cook with, so why would one choose it over an IPA for mass producing a canned product? -a ball was dropped somewhere along that line, imnsho.
I love beer of many flavors but this chili was way overpowering somebody screwed up.You can't even taste the chili you just feel the burn of the jalapenos and peppers and then the really strong aftertaste of stout I don't know I was really looking forward to this I'm just disappointed. At first I thought it had went bad.
Amazing! You gave a food a 10 that at first you thought you would not like at all. I bet that you will be stocking up on some of that Chicken Chili. I guess we all have those experiences from time to time where we think well hate something and it actually turns out that we love it, after we have tasted it. Strange...
These have to be very new/and or a test product. They aren't even listed on the Castleberry's website. I would like to try both. I do put stout (Guiness) in my chile and while I'm not partial to chicken chile I would try this.
My coworker brought chili made with peanut butter to work once. Everyone made a big deal about it. Later on, i made chili... forgot saltines, and had nothing but peanutbutter crackers... so ended up being pretty good. I imagine that's where the idea came from. The peanut butter crackers was better than what she prepared
How hard can it be? Eliminate that one gram of trans fat, and cut the sodium in half (or less). Just use potassium salt. Which wouldn't cost significantly more if you use it in industrial quantities. If they did that they might have a winner.
Chicken in chili is a big pass for me. Pork is good for green chili but, got to have beef for red chili. That's just me... :) I do not beer in chili it makes it vinegary :(
I always bought Castleberry chili for hot dogs. It's the best. I can't wait to try the new brand's by castle. Berry. What store did you buy them at? The girl is funny. But sadly she right about it being loose coming out. Lol
Yeah, Castleberry has hit these out of the park. I've noticed at my local Walmart they are moving more and more as word gets out. One day I even had to reach into the shelve to get 2 cans.
