I had recently purchased this Foodsaver model FM3600 for my mother, having only used it once before to seal a few items and store it on the shelf, in the next use, after a few items it up and died. Though Foodsaver honored the warranty, this thing feels so cheap for the price, I was curious to see what it was made of before turning it in, with the hopes that maybe I could isolate the condition and save myself the price of shipping.
With the initial inspection, Id figured it could be the actuation switch or the fuse INSIDE the unit. This whole stuffing of a fuse inside a unit bothers me personally. Back in the day a consumer was considered smart enough to replace a fuse and not toss the whole appliance in the trash when the fuse blew.
Sadly both the switch and the fuse were good, which would have been an easy fix. I did note one MOSFET had no conductive grease on it. No other components showed any outward symptoms. Though, when I looked at the first MOSFET, all of the voltages were the same and a continuity test showed all the pins to be shorted. Ill point out that I had to do the continuity in circuit since this is a return item, so I could be wrong, but either way, the output of this SMPS is not producing DC, so theres that. The MOSFET in question is the Fairchild FDPF10N60NZ. Mouser has them for $1.50.
Again, I said testing was limited in this video, as I cant disassemble things and I have none of my tools with me, but al least this gives insight into the power supply of the unit. I did open my model for a quick comparison.
