Makes me laugh at all the expensive analogue fetishists who spend crazy $$$ on gear and they can't even play. This guy proves that if you can play, then anything can sound good. It's not the gear that sounds good, it's how it's played.
+David C Well, as far as I can tell other than the Micron his only other gear is a loop pedal. That said, if you're a synth player, odds are a loop pedal is the only pedal you need.
There's a lot of analog synth purists here on RU-vid that I've ran across who absolutely love the Alesis Micron. Some liked them so much that they purchased one, added it to their arsenal of machines, and refuse to let it go. As the proud owner of a Micron myself, that says a lot to me.
honestly though. I get into fights over how overpriced the model D is. 3000 for a mono synth in a world where arturia and behringer exist, and most synth nerds areliving hand to mouth? No. For that much money i could outfit my entire studio and put any G.A.S ive ever had to complete rest. Even if i was disgusting rich i wouldnt waste that much on a single keyboard, no matter how legendary.

some very nice & intricate playing there man, a real synth-solo (not attempting to imitate an acoustic instrument, but actually playing the synth to ITS strengths) great stuff
i wound up buying a microkorg after my personal MK/Micron debate, just because the applications of the MK were a lot more practical for the music i was making. i did play both a lot before purchasing. but this video is a really great demonstration of how the layout of the micron promotes a really different style of playing than the microkorg. a really badass style of playing, if i may say so myself. the micron is much better than a lot of people seem to give it credit for.
What a wonderful imagination you have... This vid is the best example, that it's not so important what synth is in use, but HOW is it used. I play synths for 9 years, piano for 15, do it as a job and earn money, but I've seen I hardly know how the keyboard looks like... That's the art of using synth not as piano's substitute. My sister told you might be a DJ who played piano at first ;) I can't find words to say how much I'm impressed!
Animal Collective are... probably the most innovative artists making "pop-esque" music today along side Radiohead. Def. a big influence of mine, and just one reason why I picked up this amazing synth. With only a hand full of knobs you really have infinite potential. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a low priced synth and are into soundscapy/dance/psychedelic/spiritual music. It's almost too much once you go through the manual and see how intricate this little machine can get.
@Frank Frank: I wish Alesis still existed! Their truly unique designs ended when founder Keith Barr left the company. Now they're just another name on the list of the offerings from the inMusic conglomerate.

Micron looks neat. No fuss. It's an instrument plain and simple. Program it for your custom sound. Pads, slow or fast phrases, it's well programmed, all you need is creativity.
Spacemanishere, The Alesis Micron is a synthesizer, and can be VERY proffesional or VERY crappy all depending on how YOU USE IT. It has a lot of presets, but its true capabilities are in it if you tweak around with the settings. It's got an an endless amount of possibilities.
The micron got a very intuitive (for the limited controlers) way of patch editing. You can aswell assign anything to the 2 mod wheels, pitch wheel and the 3 knobs + use the control knob as 4th. This is more then enough live editing as seen in this video. I'd personally say the micron got a warmer sound and is much more flexible, but the MK has *the* signature evil Korg sound and delivers fast ready to use presets. So micron for the experimenting peeps, korg for the practical ones.
Yes on your first and second question, no on the third one. you can use headphones with it, or connect it to your stereo. It requires a heavy duty AC adaptor. While the voltage is only nine Volts, the maxixmum intensity of the current is 1.5 Ampere which would be too taxing on normal batteries at least ovver an extended period of use. The oscillators in that thing are extremely greedy and run quite hot, but the sound is simply amazing
ill say it again - awesome job! I'm still going to save up for one of these. I looked at the roland synths but i find the micron is just so much more versatile.
It may seem that way, but you can see the wheel light up every now and then for the briefest of moment. This leads me to believe he is lightly and very quickly using the wheel, although it doesn't always show because of the speed he does it and the slightness of it.
this is sick...most unique micron vid i've seen on youtube so far...i got mine like a month ago and i still have a lot to learn apparently...and did your m2 slider break off too? or did u take it off? mine's still there, but needs some glue...
microkorg for many reasons. first of all it doesn't look like a kids toy that you could buy from toys 'r' us in fact i think the only reason people think the micron is better is because it has a simple drum machine and basic looping if you want them buy a loop pedal and a drum machine. trust me ive played on both i owned the micron but then traded it for my friends microkorg. Twas a very good desision
Micron and Microkorg. If I could, I'd get both because they each have qualities the other one lacks. example: microkorg has a massive amount of onboard FX but limited polyphony.the micron just has delay, LFO, reverb, the basics. but you can basicly construct an entire song with it which is probably due to the polyphony.. i forget how many voices. all in all its a matter of taste - i chose the micron because i already have tons of FX pedals from my dads guitar playing
