Excellent video and explanation. I had no idea you had so much work to do to get this running, I thought you'd just be plugging things in, no solder. Great job, impressive. The video is not long, it's as long as it needs to be to explain what you are doing.

Thanks brother! I linked your channel at the end, one of those "end screen" panels. Yeah, it started off easy enough...cutting that connector off the headset was a mistake, an adapter would've made it so much easier.

Great job ! I built lots of audio interfaces for David Clark systems in the past and so many of the prototypes are exactly like this. Thanks for sharing !

Thanks brother. Yeah, it went fairly well, but what a mistake to cut the connector off the headphones...lol! I need to research that stuff...no jacket coated pain in the arse super fine wire...lol

Don't swear that too much. The teeny wires in most consumer stuff are all like that. A great way to TEST audio circuits is with a euro block pinned out for your mic interface. It's like a poor man's break out box and gives you the chance to experiment before you commit. When you start messing with balanced audio a few 1:1 audio transformers can be useful too.

I'm going to pick your brain the next time I tackle another project! Thanks! I saw a VHF 30-76Mhz 65-WATT DIPLEXER CU-2194/URC on ebay the other day....I thought to myself...I know someone who probably already had one of these..lol!

LOL I don't have one of those but that would be a good item if you were a low band aficionado !

hi Ron, nice video. No need to replace the stereo jack for a mono for the headphones, the 857 supports this by flicking the switch on the back of the head.

Well that is an extremely helpful piece of info! I really appreciate it! I guess I should have done more research! Thanks again!

so the little power battery box only sends power to the headphones and not the radio?
@Ron_C
@Ron_C 2 года назад
Yes, the microphone is an electret mic and requires the power.

@Ron_C
@Ron_C 4 года назад
Thank you for commenting! The headphone boom mic is an electret condenser microphone and requires 5v. That box is included with the headphones, it is a battery box to provide that voltage to the microphone.
