Anyone else ever wondered why any African language was never taught in Jamaican schools? No wonder why Dancehall is always given a fight as it uses Jamaican which doesn't line up with our European colonial owners standard of speaking. We are always trying to be more like Europeans and yet they know the languages we don't want to know in Africa and are still going there today and own most of the resources that makes their countries so wealthy to this day. Sigh.

Dancehall need back that competitive energy it brings the best out of artists because they know their reputation and sometimes their career is on the line. They become more disciplined and focused on refining their talent as well as getting the right producers to make the music right also.
Happy for the discussion and the various views, this is always healthy for our people and culture. I am wondering when will we have another "Kings and Queens of Dancehall" type of cultural display even on local stations or on social media? We need to put our money where our mouth is, whether artistes or private citizens local or abroad. We only have karaoke/Reggae being promoted with Rising Star and no more Dancehall. Also, I'd love the message being put out by our dancehall artistes be in keeping with our culture, we always talk about the 90s and fail to highlight the mode and messages were more in line with our belief system, despite having some negatives still. Real talk, we have a product that the world needs and selling it out like Hope Gardens and elsewhere star!
Competition is a must!!! Only thing is, nough of these artist a clash wid emotion n feelings attach. Therefore, that proceed fi bring out the worst in most who can't put those emotions n feelings oneside. Clashing brings out the best n worse out of us i guess!! But Competition is necessary man.
He should have got Sean Paul on the live to debate properly. Seeing him talk about 1 sentence a man said about clashing; for 1 hour plus is doing too much lol. I know the fans were interacting with him but Sean should have been on the live with both their fans combined in the live. Would have been a great debate with great points
But u cyah seh a clash is a good thing because artist dem mek nuff money from it. Part a our psychological conditioning is that we think that we need to compete wid each to show who's the best. Dats y we have so much backbiting, jealous, badmind and red eye among di artiste dem. A same way di rapper dem will say beef a part a dem culture to but if u check it, dem have di same badmind and envious problem wah we have. So yes controversy sells but at the end of the day it also feed into the self hate mindset wah already exist inside a we.
Sean Paul doesn’t know the true history of slavery or dancehall music. He should know that the entire dancehall and sound system culture is built on clashing. It has nothing to do with “slavery mentality”. It’s an art form. Someone should teach him that. Start from Prince Buster and Derrick Morgan and then all the other artists and sound clashes over the years. Win or lose the artists and selectors went on to become reggae/dancehall legends. Tenor Saw, Peter Metro, Super Cat, Ninjaman, Shabba Ranks, Papa San, Lt. Stitchie, Bounty Killer, Beenieman, Kartel, Mavado, Merciless, Kiprich. Selectors: Tony Matterhorn, Ricky Troopa, Squingy, Panta, Fire Links, and many others. Lyrical and sound system clash is about smart, wit, punchline, performance, stage presence and entertainment. It kept artists and selectors on their A-game. Listen Tenor Saw - “Ring di Alarm another sound is dying.” Clashing is not about physical fight or war between artists and communities (like gully vs. Gaza). These days, there are no artists clashing and look at the state of dancehall. It get water down bad. It’s called Dancehall Trap now. I call it popcorn 🍿 dancehall. No substance to it. That explains everything.
Nothing is wrong with competing...but the system has use our natural ability to compete to their advantage. Nothing is wrong with a Clash but it carry’s a negative effect over a period time on the age. Darwin theory more expound on how competition is used to our disadvantages.
