I think so as well. As someone who use to run around getting into trouble and in constant contact with police I remember one time dudes coming to a party we were having and trying to steal our beer. My friends dad came out and handed me a gun and told me to goto the car and get it back. It’s a sad sad story. Crazy thing is that the streets would have eventually probably killed boy and no one would care. So maybe it’s a good thing the police got to him first. It’s sad to say. Real sad but it’s the truth. Have the streets killed him first no one would care at all.

you're just ignorant and uneducated in a situation like this. The kid clearly had a gun had his back to the officer so he couldn't see then quickly turned towards the officer with his hands raised. The officer couldn't see the kid throw the gun away, all he knew was he was carrying the handgun. He has to make a spilt second decision in order to protect himself. I can under the officers reaction in a high intensity situation like this and its either him, or the suspect. Its a tragic situation and unfortunate but this is how things can play out in the real world. not everything's black and white working with random people in the streets

I just watched the video in slow mo myself...at 1:41 (barely a second before the police's gunshot is heard) the kid is fully turned around and only his left arm is raised, his right arm (the one near the fence) is either in his pocket or slightly behind him out of view (which is likely when he either tossed the gun away or slipped it out of his pocket to toss it away in the same movement) not in the air like you/others are trying to claim. At the moment the kid was pulling his hands out of his pocket/out from behind him he easily could've shot the cop before the cop could notice if he was armed or not. And the cop told him to Stop as the kid was pulling his hand out of his pocket/from behind his back (at that moment he should've not moved at all instead of continuing to pull his hand out...in fact both hands should've been in the air long before he turned around, if they were he likely wouldn't have been shot). You can bitch and moan about the cop shooting the kid all you want but in the end this is solely the kid, the parents, and the older guy with the kid's fault not the cop's. There was nowhere near enough time to tell if the kid had a gun or not in his right hand as that hand was obscured from view until less than .5 seconds before being shown and if the cop waited to see if he was unarmed or not there was a good chance of him getting shot before being able to tell if the kid was still armed (kid could've shot as he pulled his hands out and if they were in his jacket he could've shot the cop through it as well). Also as far as the cop is concerned he may not even have known the kid's age at the time of the encounter (you do know it could easily be some shorter 20 to 40 year old as well you know...not all adults are as tall as this kid (his head was nearly as high as the top of the fence behind him...so he was likely around 5 to 6 feet which is pretty average for most adults). The cop has every right to live as the kid did but the kid fucked up first by putting himself in this situation to begin with and then second not complying to the cop when first told and then when he finally did he didn't do as directed (make sure both hands were raised before turning, instead had one hand obscured until the last millisecond, didn't stop moving when he did turn when the cop told him to stop (basically pulled his hand out as the cop yelled stop, a hand that could easily have held a gun)). Now then if you honestly think you can do better than fine: join the police, get yourself in a similar situation, and then see how you react. And then have fun being told by tons of ignorant people like yourself "He shouldn't have shot him, he should go to jail" when you fire and kill/wound someone when you feel your life is threatened.

@Don Shepard say you're a cop and hear a report of shots being fired, you see someone running away presumably with a gun, you see the person who supposedly had a gun turn quickly around and bam, you're dead because you hesitated to fire. This time the suspect dropped the gun and just moved too fast but it's the adults fault for giving a child a gun. Or is that guy a great innocent guy? Cop shouldn't have shot but he wouldn't have had to even to chase the kid if the guy didn't give the child a freaking handgun

@Don Shepard Think about it from the Cop's perspective, he saw a gun in the boy's hand and its very obvious that when the boy turned around he had ditched the gun behind the fence, however the cop since he was several meters behind did not see him toss the gun and assumed he was turning around to shoot him, especially at a time and place, where its dark and in a city where cops are targets there are a number of things that could go through the officers head, no one can pause time, no one can slow down and that officer made a split-second choice that resulted in someone's death out of fear of his own. The boy shouldn't have turned around in that instance however we can play that off as the boy not knowing, same can be said for the officer in how he reacted upon turning around, lack of training could've gave him some sort of tunnel vision or stress which caused him to react with lethal force, especially when theres a gun involved. Regardless the officer attempted CPR immediately afterwards as you're trained and told to do. Regardless the simple way to put it is, wrong place, wrong time, a Child out about at 2 AM with a 21 year old and then runs from the police because he was told to do so and was handed the gun its a simple situation that can be twisted either way and the only real answer is to wait for the investigation to finish.

The Kid had a gun and ditched it right as he turned around (as mentioned it was behind the fence in the video). 2. if you know anything about history which to me seems you dont, you would know that the people of Chicago loved Al Capone while the Police didn't, for several years Al Capone was an icon and idol for the people of Chicago while also doing very corrupt and criminal things making him infamous, no buildings were burned down from him, please do your research before you make another dumb statement.

Kid has his hands up. That's seen in the footage. The police killed a 13 year old unarmed kid with his hands up. Nothing else you say matters, the situation before the shooting really doesn't matter. The kid gave up, he was shot anyway, and for some bizarre reason your demented mind thinks that should go without consequences.
