I don't really understand this drill. The linemen are incredibly separated to the point where it's nothing close to a live action scenario. In addition, both the offensive and defensive lineman seem to have no real purpose in the drill other than a head to head collision. Meaning, the offensive linemen don't seem to be creating a hole (because it's already there) and the defensive linemen don't seem to be focusing on the ball carrier at all (likely, because the hole is created before the play begins). What you are left with is a very unlikely 1 on 1 collision with both he RB and LB getting about 5 yards of clear running space before they meet (again, very unlikely). I know this is old, but it came on my feed and just my two cents from seeing it.
@@markusbg8843true but the LB needs to work on his tackling. In a real game if the RB is breaking tackles that easy in practice, in a real game he’s getting 0 tackles
Ok.. 1st: the QB should be over the far left bag. 2nd: have 3 gaps A,B,C. Huddle call the gap so the O-Line know the gap to block for and where RB will run through. Get rid of the right bag! This makes the D-Line and LB have to read and fight pressure like in a real game. LB starts over the bag too if MLB or B gap if its a 2 LBs set or off the DE if LBs is a OLB in a 4-3. Make it realistic. This here way to easy for the D players. Straight hand offs in the B gap every time teaches them very little. Might as well just run 1 on 1s.
You every kids looking at who they’re bout to go against and hopping they don’t get popped Also, I just got the adrenaline to run a marathon just from watching this lol
In the '60's, I tried to tackle Dick Butkus's "little brother" (who was actually bigger than Dick). I would tell you more about it, but he knocked me out, and I don't remember anything after that. But the good news is, I gained a lot of character from it.
I remember one time I did this drill and my two linemen drifted to the right so the opposite linemen did as well an I did with them leaving the left side completely unattended so I spun out of five people pushing each other around and I didn’t even get touched , I was 11 with no years of experience, everybody was impressed but I was just like , what did I miss? What happened thinking I did something wrong. And while all of this was happening the LB that was supposed to hit me was in the pile of OL and DL and he didn’t know where I went
Why is the qb back so far? That will give the rb a false sense of timing of receiving the hand off, when in a game. It's all about the small details people. GET IT RIGHT!
Dude, as a nosegaurd for 8 years, Seriously i saw zero rip and pulls, zero swim moves, zero 2 on 1's that would help a D line, zero clogging the middle (WHICH IS OUR JOB) and zero effort besides a head on collision. Gotta use some moves guys or their gonna get their hands on the inside and you're fucked from there.
This is how they teach tackling now....catch the guy and try to pull him on top of you...sad. Hit lift and drive! You tackle a kid so that he never wants to run the ball again
Some of those LB's could've blown the back up if they dropped the pad level and ran through the contact. Good stuff though, love watching hitting drills
hey bro! its a year later, however you seem to know your stuff. im playing d-end, and i always get caught in a block which means i cant hit the rb if he shoots towards the outside. any suggestions? im in a race with another guy to see who is going to win the last d-end position.
@@JuanTurks27 no, my coach said i should engage the tackle for 2 seconds, then proceed to outside. he's reaching my inside shoulder. it was a new way of coaching, as im used to doing my best to get him off, and to stop the outside run. my main con is i cant figure a way off the tackle in order to get the guy running on the outside.
@@rosso5072 so I played DE too, the best advice I can give you is line up where your inside shoulder is in line with the middle of his chest, have your inside hand down in your stance, on your first step don’t step farther than your other foot and make it as quick as possible. if your coach wants you to rush off the edge it’s all about hand fighting, keeping your feet moving and keeping a low pad level. When you shoot your hands to make contact, hit with your inside hand in the lineman’s chest and use your outside hand to either knock his hands off you or rip his shoulder down to swim or whatever move you prefer. If you can have your inside arm fully extended with you pads at his midsection, you won. Just don’t stop your feet and make sure to stay wide to catch the back on the outside. I’d look up some outside contain videos to get a visual
UCE Xy It’s part of the drill. The D-line men are just supposed to be there to simulate in game blocking but aren’t actually supposed to make the tackle
i like the aggression but you need to teach some kids better for tackles some were standing straight up hitting with actual speed they will miss the tackle every time
All u gotta do is get low and bring the shoulder. Every kid on my team that tackles like that gets trucked or bang up their head. One kid on my 8th grade team is 4’9 and like 70 pounds (ik he small) but he can tackle kids two times bigger then him by getting low. Btw my team isn’t a bunch of 4’9 kids just to clear that up.
I’m 8th gr 5’3 120 shortest one thier I get low and truck the fuck out the the 180 lbs 165 Lb we have and I’m the qb we run triple option it just depends how fast and low u get I think cuz I truck kids twice my size sometimes
