Right spence. Big fan here, also a huge FM player. Im gonna tell you how to stop conceding so many goals from set pieces. What you want to do is set up defensive set pieces so you have your two centre backs marking tall players, your two smallest players on the posts, your most creative player on the edge of the area, and heres the important bit: You want FOUR PLAYERS ZONALLY MARKING THE 6 YARD BOX. Any other players just set to man marking. Zonal marking in FM is crucial - all the AI managers do it, and so should you. I promise you'll stop conceding so much from corners. Bels Santos Danish Wahiddin Id love to help you guys, but im struggling to figure out attacking corners myself. Ive had some success (Some, not a lot) in the past with one centre back set to attack near post and the other set to attack ball from deep, and then setting the taker to hit it near post. But, honestly, i cant seem to get corners to work and have reverted to making my players take them short in order to retain possession a little and maybe flush a few opponents out of the box before the cross is swung in. If you guys have any more questions id be happy to try help!
Just a few tips for Spencer or anyone else struggling with FM: 1. Instructions. You NEED more team instructions if you want to win games, otherwise the AI isn't going to know what you want it to do in order to score goals. 1-2 just isn't enough. Only ever go down to 1-2 instructions if you're trying to shut up shop and keep things simple to see a game out. 4-6 team instructions around a solid system are needed to produce a winning formula. Too many instruction's will leave the players confused though and may have negative effects. You just have to find the balance around your preferred style. 2. Set piece defending. No point complaining about conceding set pieces if you don't have a solid tactic to defend them. Experiment with the set piece tactics and employ your best defenders to defend their tallest players. Have shorter players on the posts, and at least 4 players to zonally mark. Also if you can spare a player, keep a fast/creative player on the edge of the area to instigate a counter attack if you come away with the ball. Occasionally set the teams training to 'defend set pieces' in the match preparation screen too. 3. Monthly installments. Analyse your clubs finances to see how much profit you tend to accumulate on a monthly basis (if any), and use that to your advantage when signing players. Unless a team specifies they want an entire transfer fee paid up front (not usually the case), then select the monthly installments option and offer to pay them a set amount over a certain amount of time. In the years I've played FM, I can only think of a few times I've signed a player for a set fee without installments. It's just a great way to pay the fee wanted by the club, by not having to completely dry up your finances in the process. As stated though, make sure you're financially stable before attempting such deals. 4. Team meetings. No idea if you actually do them or not, but they are usually vital when stopping bad form. Let the players assertively know that they haven't been performing to the correct standards and that you expect better. Sorry for the wall of text, it's just a few thing's I've noticed that could improve Spencers game. Also if it helps anyone at all reading then that's an added bonus :)

Nah it's not better than FIFA and never will be. Purely due to the ability to actually play matches. I'm not slating Football Manager, it's more so and so that they differ in purpose (FM specialises in managerial gaming obviously while FIFA is mostly about the gameplay).
you cant play matches because its football manager not football player. To people who are really into football, FM is a better choice over fifa15. Its for people who like the strategy around football and not for people who like to score goals from running around a goalkeeper that moves in a straight line. Dont get me wrong i love fifa but FM is better.

I've put over a thousand hours into the FIFA franchise like many people, and I also play football in real life (not as much unfortunately). Again, like many others, always keep a tally of what's happening throughout the football season of various leagues, mostly the Barclays Premier League. Does that mean I'm not really into football? I think the answer you were looking for is people who are really into managing football clubs. Gameplay is a huge factor which is something FM will never come close to in terms of delivering the same experience. But why does it need to? The clue is in the name. Maybe I will like FM in the future, but for me FIFA outclasses FM in nearly every field because it has other capabilities. Doesn't even come close. Regardless of how stupid the physics engine or whatever they call it is and regardless of ridiculous referee decisions...that's FIFA for ya lol.
The 2 games are incomparable in the first place, I'd imagine that people who enjoy playing football in real life would prefer FIFA. Gamers who are into strategies would prefer FM. I like both though.
Seriously Spence, i gave you this advice last episode and i'll give it again...DO THE HALF TIME TEAM TALKS YOURSELF (dont leave it to the assistant manager all the time)...maybe hold a team meeting to boost morale as well?

Spencer you need to set up a defensive set piece tactic to cut back on the corner goals your conceding. Also make 3 formations and tactics so your team can learn and become familiar with and you can switch in between them depending on opposition. Also do individual player talks after the team talk to give them an extra boost!
sort out a loan deal with hugh wizzy for either gnabry, crowley or zelalem or even all three of them. played an arsenal save recently and of all them are premier league football ready by midway point of the first season. im not saying they are the best players in the league but they are definitely useful. if you can guarantee wizzy that youll be giving them first team football he will maybe agree to split their wages 50/50 which would cost you almost nothing of your wage budget... gnabry would be an upgrade to your center attacking mids, zelalem could play deep lying playmaker
Play 442 it surprisingly work with attacking wingers Adrian Van der wiel Tomkins Reid Cresswell Song Kouyate Downing Valencia Sakho Zarate Just try it in the first game of the episode i promise it will work
Play with a half back, drop your attacking center mid and play with two mids in front of the half back, one a playmaker and the other a ball winning mid. Set tactics to exploit the flanks and you'll notice a huge difference.
Use 4-1-2-2-1 with one CDM, two CMs, two wingers and obviously a striker, and control the game, tell your players to hold the ball and play with a lot of passes and overlaps and without any crosses . Also stick to two tacticts or something so your players can be used to the formation
Hi Spencer, I've noticed that you don't give individual team talks when you make substitutions. I would recommend passionately saying to the sub "I'm looking for you to make the difference..." I've scored many a winning goal by doing this.
Try using more instructions like work ball into the box which will help with your so many shots but all off target, drop deeper if you're using counter attack, lower temper as you're players are not as technical as say City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton etc etc and also get stuck in, stick to position and close down more.
I'd change that formation Spencer on in the center isn't going to do much for possesion push noble up next to morrison but put noble and a deep lying playmaker

Also do not be afraid to use center midfield and ball winning midfielder as your player roles, sooooooo many people try and use the fancy play making roles but when you're a mid table team its hard to have a playmaker but instead you need a solid and reliable midfield rather than a flash one that loses possession. and loses you games
Don't feel you should play Ravel Morrison as much. Yeah he's young but I don't think he's good enough to be played as much as he is. Maybe try not to change formation every game, I know in some circumstances you need to change but keeping the same formation for a string of games increases how well your team plays as a whole, they get in to more of a rythym
I am getting Football Manager 2015 for my Sony Vaio and i'm new to buying games on the laptop can someone help me because I don't know how to download it from disc or whatever thanks
If you buy it in store you put the disk into your computer and it installs from what I know everytime you want to play it use the disk and it should load up after it installs of course. To download it you can do so either of the game website(the store not football manager website) or make a steam account and download it off there from what I can tell is in the store it cost less but more chance of the disk breaking. Personally I use steam because no chance of it breaking I back up all my save files and it was a easier process for me.
Your formations are odd. There's no balance in midfield. Personally, I would go with 4231 at home and 4411 away when playing with mid-table-ish teams, and 433 when playing bigger teams. For you when playing at home, I'd try GK - Full Back (support) - CB (defend) - CB (defend) - Full Back (support) - Deep Lying Playmaker (support) - Centre Mid (defend) - Winger (attack) - Trequarista - Winger (attack) - Poacher (attack). Set it on Standard, and use Exploit The Flanks instruction. This helps me pen the other team in their half and to constantly recycle attacks down the flanks. Your team will get at their full backs as quickly as possible and look for balls in and around the box, and the other team can't counter because you have two midfielders and your full backs sitting deep, effectively cutting off all their counter attack avenues. And because your full backs and centre mids are deep, you can easily recycle possession. You want your CBs to mark their strikers tightly so they win the ball from them high up the pitch. It especially helps if you have a really good attacking mid to play behind the striker, and a well-rounded striker. When you're playing away, do the same, except pull your wingers back so they form a straight four across the middle and set your tactics to Rigid and Counter. I always weekly train on the Defensive Positioning, too.
