I hate Liverpool with passion. But at the same time I have a lot of respect for the club and the tradition of the club. something mancity or chelsea will never have.
I used to want Liverpool to win as I did any English side in Europe but not anymore. I despise everything that LFC stands for. Back in the day with Shanks, Keegan, Heighway, Hughes etc they were good people. Good English club, good footballers and played with a smile on their faces. THEN IT ALL CHANGED. In came nasty, dirty players like Souness. A win at ALL cost attitude, score one then pass back to the keeper till the final whistle. And also the fans....................wanting any team in Europe to beat Man United. Despicable republican scum who hate England and began singing Irish Republican tunes in Anfield. Just disgusting...........Politics has no place in football. But the Sons Of Shankly rule Anfield with an iron fist taking fans colours and flags away from them if it doesn't fit in with their ideas. Even Phil Thompson has spoken out about this infiltration of republican/anti-English sentiment at the very core of LFC's support. I always support all English clubs in Europe, but not Liverpool. I've seen the hatred on their twisted faces when Manchester United are playing. I don't love our rivalry. I have much more respect for City, Arsenal and Chelsea than I ever would Liverpool. If LFC went out of business tomorrow I wouldn't bat an eyelid. ps. Congratulations to LVG for winning our 12 FA Cup and to Sevilla for winning the Europa league!!!
Sorry Jonny you seem like a decent fan and this ISN'T a personal dig but the truth is United don't need Liverpool in any way at all. If LFC went out of business you wouldn't be missed. In fact the day your club goes out of business would be celebrated annually by fans of many clubs but especially Chelsea, Southampton, Everton and United. LFC has only brought negative things to the sport on and off the field and perhaps when you've gone we could rekindle some of the good old days when opposing fans had respect for each other and didn't take sick joy out of others misfortune. I wish Liverpool FC nothing but bad luck and only look forward to your demise. You are nothing. You don't matter.
Neutral Observer. Are you talking about the Liverpool of old? What era? This is just my opinion but I don't think that United would be able to enjoy there success as much if there weren't teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Villa and Everton challenging them. Unfortunately, I am not old enough to enjoy Liverpools success but I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if there were no "top" teams to brag to.Of course, I absolutely loved it when I heard that Fergie had retired but I also respect Man United as much as I do Arsenal, Southampton, Tottenham and Everton. What I can't stand are clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City and I never will like them. I thoroughly respect you and your honest comment and I am sure United and Liverpool will soon be at the level they used to be.
Jonny, You are looking and judging teams over a short timescale. If you look at clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City over the last 100 years or more it's quite a different picture. Chelsea and City have only had sugar daddies for say 15 yrs. That's about 10% of their life as a football club. If you go back to the mid-late 60's Everton were a bigger and more successful club than Liverpool. For me I lost all respect for LFC and their fans when they ditched the likes of Shanks and more importantly the way he had respect for his opponents (albeit there was plenty of banter) but not the hate which surfaced from Liverpool fans in the early 70's. It became ALL about winning and cowards like Graeme "I'll take you out when you're eyes are on the ball" Souness arrived. The old Liverpool with Shanks, Keegan, Heighway, Toshack etc were a joy to watch when the Sons of Shankly didn't go around telling people what they could and couldn't sing or what flags they could or couldn't bring into Anfield. In addition there is a worrying "Republican" movement gaining momentum within some sectres of the Liverpool support which has been seen in the choice of certain songs and political views which have been expressed on videos. Even Phil Thompson has spoken out against this. Liverpool FC is an English club, which is part of the UK but some people lurking in the shadows don't like that and are desperately trying to win hearts and minds with sectarian shit. To my mind politics has NO place in football and should be crushed by the regular fans!! Unlike some you seem a really decent bloke Jonny. I feel sorry for the likes of you that your club has elements that almost use the name of LFC to achieve their political aims.
Neutral Observer. 1) I know that Chelsea and Manchester City weren't always like this and I used to have the same respect that I do for Arsenal Man Utd etc. 2) I completely respect Everton and I know the club that I love was essentially formed by the owner of Everton. 3) I also agree that the club took a turn for the worst when the likes of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan departed and the hate against other clubs is completely wrong. 4) I can't honestly say I know too much about the political songs being sung around Anfield as I haven't been for a couple of years. I do think this is also wrong but that is the problem with the world today and I'm sure Liverpool isn't the only club in England which is surrounded by these issues including your club. I appreciate your point of view and you seem like a very nice person too and it's fans like you who make football the greatest sport in the world. It is not just Liverpool fans, it is others too. Obviously without the political issues it would be a nicer club but I'm sad to say that I think this will be a growing problem amongst the sport and most clubs.
I haven't supported Liverpool but I did support Manchester United for a while during their winning spell. I support Chelsea now and I have to say, I believe Chelsea are bigger than both Man U and Liverpool. Chelsea have a richer history, they come from the capital city and they have a bigger fanbase worldwide. I can't really see me leaving Chelsea any time soon.
Just read the description and as an LFC fan, I respect you so much. Football is a game IN WHICH sick references mocking tragedies have no place. No matter what club you support death mocking is not acceptable.
Liverpool fan but i respect everything Man U have achieved, it's been done the right way rather than buying the league. I love the Liverpool and Man U rivalry and fully enjoyed beating you at Old Trafford though ;)
I have been a Liverpool fan since November 1970, but a fan of football for even longer. While I fully "embrace" the fact that the Scabby Mancs (I can't even write or say their name!) are our biggest rivals, I have a deep respect for them simply because their fans (the ones that actually live in Manchester!) are as passionate as ours. I even have a couple of friends who support The Dark Side. Talking football with one of them a couple of weeks ago, I asked him if there was any particular player he genuinely "hated", but would love to hve seen in their kit - and I offered my equivalent answer. The two names that came up were Gary Neville and Steve Gerrard - and that's why, despite his football allegiances, we can be mates. Because the most important thing to both of us is to have players who will give absolutely everything for the shirt and that badge on their chest - whichever one it is! May the rivalry contimue to grow with unbridled (but violence-free) passion between my beloved Liverpool and The Other Lot. You'll Never Walk Alone.
Liverpool fan, love the rivalry, grown up with the rivalry at its fiercest. Respect to United for everything they've done and achieved, in the right way as well.
Liverpool will eventually win the premier league title and the silly pathetic jokes and songs from the rivals fans will have to stop because it is getting boring. Jurgen klopp record/curse of not wining the champions league final. Ps coutinho must be looking at himself with shame right now😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Everyone keeps on talking about 30 years ago when we didn't win the league but they need to understand is that the man United fans they need to understand it took them 26 years to get a league from 1966 to 1993 please remember before they had 13 league titles we had 18 league titles so figure out yourself who done the catching up and then if you want to talk about European football. Lol
Manchester United v Liverpool is THE greatest rivalry in English football. With all due respect to Tottenham-Arsenal; Liverpool-Everton; Manchester United-Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are THE giants of the English game. The greatest rivalry in English football bar none. I LOVE Liverpool! I DETEST Manchester United with every fiber of my being.
I'm a Dundee United fan and I have to agree that this rivalry is one of my favorites besides the Old Firm and the rivalry here called the Dundee Derby.
As a Liverpool fan, pains me to say that Alex Ferguson was a quality manager for over 2 decades for the Mancs and it will be hard to replace such a quality man. Hats off to him, he had one goal and that was to take the number of league titles away from us (to knock us off our perch). Shame that both teams now are struggling for top 4.
I'm a huge Man U fan.... But no matter what Manu and LFC are the 2 biggest teams at the moment in history. The problem is though that Shitty and Chelski are loaded by oil sheiks and will continue to buy the league where as our teams won it with players we groomed or had desire to play for.... Now a days a player only goes where the money is... And the sooner the better they put a cap on highest paid players etc because 2teams will just keep buying everyone and the title
Liverpool spent huge money (for those days) when they were winning, United are the only team to not spend millions are win it. Now they're both spending Hundreds and millions and winning fuck all
+Stephen Brazil Liverpool bought plenty of players that were groomed elsewhere, so has United. Chelski and Sh*tty are indeed, vile, but to teams in the mid table and lower table, and lower leagues, there is no difference between Utd/Pool and Chelski/City.
+Stephen Brazil That's not really an excuse; we had to face this problem from Blackburn in the early-mid 90's (Shearer turned us down because of money), we just have to invest and be patient; MUFC is a brand which City and Chelsea can't buy and we have plenty of financial muscle to buy. LFC don't have that financial luxury.
saringaclose Please stop with the immature cursing. If you wish to make a point, make it like an adult, not like a spoiled, ignorant 12 year old who has just discovered bad words.
I can't understand how Man Utd aren't doing so well this season - it's the same squad as they had last season. Obviously, the influence of Alex Ferguson is missed. Not his managerial ability, but his INFLUENCE. He's the greatest manager of all time in terms of buying success, had it not been for money, his aforementioned influence and shocking refereeing decisions, he'd be Scottish Premier standard at best.
Moyes changed the whole dynamic of how we played Vidic said in an interview we were used to playing a certain way and Moyes changed all that so it would have taken time to change and from 1990-2011 Liverpool have spend around £640 million we have spent around £560 million and look at the difference in success.
Alex Ferguson won 3 Scottish league titles. 4 Scottish cups and a league cup with hardly any money at Aberdeen at a time when Scottish football was at a very high level. Not to mention 2 european trophies at Aberdeen.
Manchester United vs Liverpool will forever be a classic. I'm a united fan but I truly respect what liverpool have accomplished. Both clubs work from scratch and became what they are today. Unlike other clubs like chelsea and manchester city, all they did is to buy their way in.
I dislike both teams for footballing reasons but I can never make jokes about each teams disasters, theres no place for it in football. I appreciate both teams and how they bounced back from both
I don,t follow the game anymore, sadly I,m a pompey fan, don,t laugh! but I spent a lot of time in Liverpool and grew up through the paisley years, I know there will always be rivalries and arguments but I respect the older days managers and they didn't buy success, paisley was and is a hero of mine, what he achieved in ashort time was beyond belief and taking over from a legend in shanks must have been an unbelievably difficult task, I can,t think of anyone else who could have not only handled that pressure but handle it and surpass shanks success? anyway peace everyone.
i`ve been a Liverpool fan since about 5 years old and have seen the power shift from Liverpool to Man Utd over the 70`s, 80`s,90`s and on but Man Utd regardless of whichever Liverpool team they came up against they always gave liverpool a dam hard game. The stats show that too, man u have won more than Liverpool. Great teams over the years ..
The Liverpool-Man U rivalry is like the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs in ice hockey here in Canada. It is very big. Just like the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs have legions of fans all over Canada, both Liverpool and Man U have legions of fans worldwide. It really is THE greatest rivalry not only in England also throughout Britain, and one of THE greatest in world football. These are the two best teams in the history of the English game.
mancity and chelsea are nothing compared to liverpool and mufc. arsenal also have huge history to tell. its all about all time performances not about few seasons at the top.
This is the biggest rivalry in world club football. I've been a Liverpool season ticket holder for 30 years and this game is without doubt the biggest there is. You can go on about Madrid & Barca, but this Scouse Manc rivalry transcends football. The 2 Cities are right next door to eachother, working class, & they have the 2 most successful football teams in Britain. It's a great rivalry as long as it remains healthy with a mutual respect. YNWA!
Manchester United 0-3 Liverpool What a beautiful score!!!! Liverpool were truly the better team that day. first victory at Old Trafford in five years when United were beaten by a 3-goal margin 4-1. YEAH BABY!!! The balance of power has clearly shifted to Anfield. Liverpool all the way!!!!
Liverpool Fc and Manchester United made english football what it is today, biggest game in world football, im a liverpool fan, and i look forward to this fixture every season
Strangely the real and I mean REAL hatred in English football is not Man Utd and Liverpool but Utd and Leeds, at least their is some grudging respect between the two red teams but Leeds? Forget it, they detest Utd.
A Big Fan of Both Legendary Clubs. Started watching Football because of these 2 Giants of English Football Clubs. I always have 50-50 when these 2 meet.
You couldn't even win the league with the best striker on the planet dragging you along hahahahaha Sir Steven Gerrard slipped on his fucking arse, he gave it to Demba Ba Oh yeah, 20 times :)
SLOTH GAMING - Typical Liverpool fan. Claim to be holier than thou, protesting about how badly you're treated by everyone but scratch below the surface and your comment above comes out. Typical of your vile fans and club. Rotten to the core!!! Lets wait and see how many of your fellow Scousers condemn your comment above.....................
The hatred didnt start in the 1990's as described. Albiston is correct, it was there much earlier than that. I remember living in Scotland during the seventies and Liverpool were hated then by most fans of different clubs but especially Celtic and United. By the late 80's everyone despised them because people were bored by their dull pass back to the goalkeeper style of football and their success. People wanted to see a new kid on the block, hence everyone celebrated when Arsenal won the title @ Anfield in 1989 and that included fans of every club apart from Liverpool !!!
Football existed before 1992 but he said Premier League. That started in 1992...................FACT. You sound very defensive and almost butthurt. Chill son. One day Liverpool might actually win the PL !
Robbie Fowler + Steven Gerrard + Jamie Carragher + Luis Suarez + Fernando Torres = Total English League Titles =0. Luke Chadwick, Darren Ferguson, Ronnie Wallwork and Michael Owen = 4.
Believe it or not there was a time in English football when there wasn't so much tribal hatred between clubs fans. So for example my grandad used to tell me that whichever English team won the league and represented England in the European Cup would usually get the support of everyone sitting @ home watching the match on television. Sure teams wanted to beat each other domestically but if other clubs fell on hard times people would rally together and help each other out. There were NONE of these chants about disasters. THEN THIS CHANGED. WHY DID THIS CHANGE? This changed because a Liverpool fan or group of Liverpool fans decided to make up a song to celebrate the deaths of 23 people in a plane crash in Munich. Now, just take a few minutes out and think about that.............................. :- 1. What was going through those Liverpool fans minds while they thought up a tune and words to go with it? 2. Why did other Liverpool fans hear this song and think, "Oh this is good, or this is funny, let's celebrate these deaths even though there were hundreds of relatives grieving for their lost fathers, husbands, brothers, sons, uncles, cousins etc" ? 3. Why did fans of other clubs like Rangers, Chelsea, West Ham, Leedscum, City etc all think, " Hey that's a fun song celebrating death, let's also sing it"? Ladies and Gentlemen, You may say this is harping back and we need to look forward and resolve the issues we find ourselves with today and to an extent I agree we need to move on. However before we can lance the boil, we need to understand what happened and WHY? IF those Liverpool supporters hadn't invented sick chanting, would anyone have even thought about making up a song about The Ibrox Disaster, the death of Davie Cooper, Jonny Doyle, Jock Stein, Bill Shankly, Don Revie, Istanbul, Heysel, Bradford, Hillsborough and others? Maybe they would, BUT maybe they wouldn't!! We cant change the past. What's done is done and that's the problem. We can't undo the damage that's already been done to the family and friends of Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight who were brutally murdered in Istanbul. If you were one of their relatives would you forgive the Millwall fans who turned up at the game against Leeds in Galatasaray shirts and making stabbing gestures? Personally I would love nothing more than to be able to wave a wand and the chants would end but I've been going to football since 1973 and I know this isn't going to happen. The best we can hope for is that such strong action is taken inside stadiums that we can put an end to these songs there. These songs will sadly live on in pubs, clubs, and on the streets. Personally I've never sung about any disaster and I never will but I can't forgive those Liverpool fans who took such great pleasure in celebrating the death of 23 people. They may have been misguided but somewhere inside them was evil and they are scum. I'm still amazed though how thousands and thousands of Liverpool fans were seduced by this sickening song and blasted it out year after year after year! Make no mistake.....................this is exactly where the genuine hatred of Liverpool started. Forget all those red herrings about two city's competing and the Manchester ship canal. Do Manchester City despise everything about Everton? Do Everton despise everything about City with the same venom that Liverpool hate Man United and vice versa? Not a chance. I'm afraid those Liverpool fans represent everything that is rotten in the human race. They created the problem we have today. So when Liverpool fans start throwing abuse @ the United fans who were shouting about Heysel and The Sun newspaper, just take a minute out to remember why we have this problem today. JFT 96 and everyone who has suffered in any football tragedy anywhere!
Its strange how the most successful clubs have the biggest tragedies and best storylines. Only two teams can make a film on. Wonder do the tragedies drive them on a bit more? They seem like the only two clubs with soul!
All you Manchester lot have been chasing Liverpools records for so long, you've managed to pip us "just" but now the crap has hit the fan. Era over. Good effort tho fp
Liverpool were chasing us until the mid 70s, then you overtook us and held the records for 30 years until we overtook you again in 2011. You've been chasing Man Utd longer than we ever chased you.
I was brought up on Old Firm games and believe me Utd v Liv has a lot of bitterness about it. The vast majority who go to Old Firm games love the singing, the atmosphere both pre match and during but then go home to Clarkston, Bishopbriggs, Giffnock, Rutherglen, Partick, Bridgeton, Parkhead and Shawlands and have a pint with their mates. Nothing more. The main difference between these games is the sectarianism which does give the Old Firm another dimension but only someone who is ignorant or biased would not appreciate the nasty element which Utd-Liv, Blues-Villa, Pompey-Saints also have.
I am a Liverpool Fan and the rivalry been Man United gives English Football a special spice. 2 great clubs both of which have had amazing success. You have got to respect Man United and Sir Alex what a manager to be at a top club for so long is a real credit to him
"neutral observer" a lovely attempt at hiding your hatred by shifting the burden of guilt and proof towards the opposing house - projecting insecurity towards it. now i know you will not understand what i am saying, so to dumb it down : you are irrational, self-loathing person.
What I do understand clearly is the arrogance you demonstrate which is one of the key reasons for the original post. LFC and arrogance go together like fish and chips!!
Again with the presumption : I am not a liverpool fan. No, I will not tell you whom I support, you will only go ahead with your infallible complex and insult me. And as always, you can not argue why I AM arrogant, apparently.
"now i know you will not understand what i am saying, so to dumb it down" This clearly shows your arrogance as to look down on someone you have never met and don't know. So IF you are not a Liverpool fan then your arrogance is purely coincidental!! ps. If you are going to try and come across all academic and condescending for goodness sake don't score an own goal in your very first post as it ruins the effect ;-)
Man Utd are the most successful English football club and the 3rd most successful major European club. Liverpool are nowhere to be seen there. That's what man utd are mate
Hahaha you stupid idiot! Success isn't determined by ONE trophy you uneducated dipper! Replace Liverpool with Man Utd and you have got your elite European teams! All that you wrote is absolute bullocks. Nobody cares about owning a real European cup or a replica. It's irrelevant to everyone. We don't care, so it means nothing when you say it. We have more titles, more FA Cups, more Club World Cups, more Community Shields, more domestic trophies and more overall trophies than Liverpool and that makes us a more successful club. Having more fans, more sponsors and being worth more money than Liverpool makes us a bigger club. You just aren't in our range. We are officially England's most successful team and Europe's 3rd most successful major club. That's OFFICIAL!! Look it up! Liverpool are like 7th! What you say is absolute shit. We have a 13 Premier League trophies in our cabinet and you don't even have 1 let alone a replica!!
Right, because a 1 match Community Shield and Super Cup "competition" deserve a spot alongside the Champions League. The CL, EPL, FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup are tier 1 trophies. Liverpool: 41; ManU: 37
Im a Liverpool fan but i think but teams are the most winners team in England, but every team had his moments, and i think right now Man U is in his moment
dublinmadman33 United may have brought through such players like Neviile, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs and so on, but you look at the great players in United shirts, for instance Schiemical, Van Der Sar and even De Gea have all been bought, Vidic and Ferdinand were also bought for huge fees, as was Evra, Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani, Ashley Young, Eric Cantona, Van Persie and so on have all been bought in. But thats what it takes to make a good squad, a mixture of youth and purchase established players. Thats why we (Liverpool) havent succeeded as of the last 10 years
***** The thing is, there is a difference between buying a young player with potential and turning them into stars and simply buying players that are already stars. Out of those players you mentioned, only RVP would qualify as the latter in my mind. Ideally, you don't really ever need to buy any established players, you simply trust the already experienced players you have, bring academy players through, and if need be, buy young talent. That's why under Fergie, we rarely signed any older players. Sometimes though, teams end up with no experienced players, or not enough of them, like Liverpool right now or us in the defensive department. In such cases, it's justified to buy established ones.
Yeah because generalising United fans and calling them P**** isn't racist. Normally I'd give a shitty troll like you a 1 or 2 out of 10 but since you got me to respond I'll give you a 4.
I'm a Liverpool fan who DETESTS Man United. However, I will never go so far as to making jokes about Munich because that's a real tragedy, and the Busby Babes such as Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton, etc., were legendary. My hatred for Man U is a healthy one when they play Liverpool. I have a lot of respect for Man U fans, and as a football purist, Man U play some beautiful football that is great to watch. It's a great rivalry, and it should be kept clean and fun, and I always look forward to it.
we have more premier leagues more champions leagues and more fa cups .. the only thing ye have more of is league cups ... we have also won the fifa world club cup .. oh and have more ballon dors then ye ... ye are a team of the past now yer just sour racist scumbags
Well, neither club have any international titles. International football is when countries are playing each other, not clubs. But I do know what you mean, and generally agree with everything.
Unlike Liverpool fans, we live off real trophies and real achievements won in the modern age, not B/W pictures from a bygone era. ITs scary to think what Moyes can do with proper backing and a fantastic group of players who are the champions of england. One thing is for sure, even at our worst, we'll finish way above the bad half of merseyside (aka Liverpool FC)
both teams are the most decorated in English Football history now! level on 58 trophies each! United will pass them in League Titles this season when we win our 19th ;) standard! and obviously passing them all together to become the most decorated in England! look forward to it Scousers!
Alleged lifelong Utd fans started coming out of the woodwork in 90's. But one question always used trip up the band wagon jumpers. Who are Utd's greatest rivals?
I just said that, so I took them away from both clubs. In all honesty it really doesn't matter, It is evident that both clubs are hugely successful, alas Liverpool not as much as United in the last two decades.
Kopite4life12 LOL, scouser, we already can't understand when you talk, but now, you are going to make it that we can't even understand what you are writing???
I am United fans, and there are many friends of mine are Liverpool fans. At the beginning of the season they always say "This year is our year", but by the end of the season they always say "Let's talk about history, we have more CL trophies than you do". Why?? Why??
On defense they haven't gave up easy goals. They haven't lost to the easy teams, they have tied which hurt them last year by tying Blackburn which untimely they got second by 1 point. Also, concerning debt and the Glazers. They will sell the team between 1.5 billion and 2 billion pounds. They will make a huge profit, but its going to be interesting to see who will buy the team.
Man United and Liverpool are the 2 biggest clubs in England.I like both of them, i actually enjoy that rivalry as a football fan! Them, and RM-Barca are the top rivalries in Europe.
@sup3rh1k I bleed Manchester United but I can see talent in teams such as Arsenal and Tottenham who believe in home grown talent and build a player up from the youth. Sir Alex's sheer ability to find and attract great talent and turn them into superstars (eg- Ronaldo, Stam, Ferdinand) gives us the edge over clubs who hunt down million dollar players! Glory Glory Man United!
Liverpool FC sent 5 players to man u after Munich so they could fullfil their fixtures that season. Matt Busby, of course was one of Shankly's favourite LIVERPOOL player.
i'm a liverpool fan in ireland and like many of my mates your scouse or manc. i know i love the rivalry. twice a season we all go out have a bit of banter but shake hands at the end. a liverpool league title might just spice things up a bit and who knows a champs league final. next year would have been perfect but sadly if we play a european final next year it'll be in dublin!!!! but here's to the two best clubs in the world. long may the rivalry continue
