Why people need to hate cricket? Cricket is not funded by Indian goverment. It has it's own body named as BCCI. But football was famous in 50's and begining of the 60's the not enough support from the government and no sponcers, no proper leagues we quit watching football. The main reason Indians like cricket more compare to football is Indian rate the cricket skills more sophisticated than football skills. Also while playing cricket you get more chance to show your performance in batting or bowling or in wicketkeeping. You are good in one of the skill atleast like either batting or bowling or even in wicket keeping. In football only few or the best in team performace looks visible. In cricket you get proper chance to bowl even you are bowling just one over. Indian rate cricket skill like fast bowling, out swing, inswing, off spin or leg spin as an art and player is artist. People enjoy adrelin rush to take pressure during bowling over or batting. Football is also tough game and number of skills are required but most of those skills are not easily visible to ordinary veiwer and also many kids playing themselves are not interested in those skills except adrelin rush to score goal whose chance is very less. Every event in Cricket like bowling and batting on each bowl give player chance to show skills. In every bowl bowled a bowler or batsman can show best moment of the match either in bowling and batting. Each player in a crciket team love his main skill as a batsman or bowler. England is european country and native white population consider win in a football match higher glory than winning against subcontinent team in cricket because they are competing with countries like germany, france and wants to showcase their greatness to their european neighbours. If Germany and france would have cricket as most popular sport, England would have also cricket as most popular sport. It is the same pshycological reason for New Zealand, Australia and West Indies.

Think about how much money that is, then infrastructure, the pitch, academys... India will never be able to compete with europe where the quality is top notch. Also this saudi thing, saudi public fund is financing the buys from europe. And its an elaborate politics plus long term investment to change the imgae of the country and attract foreign investment. Who said Indians dont watch local football??? Places like Kerala, Bengal, Sikkim and Mizroram have been there since ages. Mohun Bagan, Mohamedan Sporting and East Bengal have doing it since ages. Kerala has huge following for Local Football tournaments. But then again, To many people North India & Mumbai are the only Indians. Rest are just numbers. Modern day football needs investment first and then results will come.
