Footings | Why are they used?

Be it Burj Khalifa, the Pentagon, or your house, the weight of these structures is ultimately borne by a structural element called a footing. A design mistake in the footing can result in the collapse of the whole building, which is why a proper foundation design is crucial. Footings are the most important part of the foundation. Their job is to distribute the heavy load of the building, concentrated on the columns, to the wider surface area of soil to achieve structural stability. Let’s analyze the importance of footings and their different types. Come along!

The government should hire animators in collaboration with the profs for educational purposes. The curriculum should include these animated subjects to clearly understand what they are teaching. We are in the modern world where books ain't enough to learn, and most importantly, is not enough to understand. I am an engineering college student and I learned more in this vid during this online classes. Thanks lesics!

Very nice video, simple, straight forward but yet informative... I would like to add a little information here about the pile foundations... In fact they are two types of pile systems, the friction piles that were discussed in this video and the end bearing pile that were not discussed here (or maybe I've missed it) the end bearing piles simply transmit loads and moment to a rigide layer in the depth.... Thanks once more 🙏🏻
