These stories are too powerful. A movie about history like this should definitely be on the radar of our Ghanaian scriptwriters.

I now understand why after coming to power in 2001, you never wanted to tolerate Mr Rawlings a former coup maker. You really learnt something from the demise of Busia's administration. Thumbs up and shame to the evil thinkers.

It was the other way around. JJ never really accepted his legitimacy as a president until his second term. I remember JJ saying that he doesn't have the confidence of the Armed Forces.

I agree. This remarkable man, a true and honest Statesman and Former Ghana President should write his autobiography. I will definitely be mesmerized with full account of his political life--the highs and lows--about his family, education, goals, political career and other side of political life. This Memoire can cover his reflections and wisdom. The future generations should also learn and remember their country's history more from brilliant and great men like former Pres. A.J. Kofuor. Really awesome person!

Interesting. Let me add however that the oil price hikes of 1974 & 1979 resulting from the Arab-Israeli conflicts took a great toll on non oil producing countries like Ghana. Prices of imports caused hyper-inflation, scarcities, imbalances and general hardship in the country. he scarcities
@augandoh
@augandoh 3 года назад
Oops!!!. I wanted to also add that scapegoats, in the general, were made for the hyper-inflation, scarcities, general economic hardships that were induced by the oil price shocks of 1974 & 1979.

It's alleged that General Afrifa before handing over to Professor Busia, had done an elaborate ethnic cleansing in the army with the tacit support of the Prime Minister. Even in the public and civil service it was extended there. It were these that Dr Agama confronted the prime minister that he was a tribalistic prime minister leading a tribalistic government.

@@emikinc that's fine The soldiers booted professor Busia out and Acheampong stated that clearly. Even before he became prime minister, he and his president have coached Afrifa how to eliminate Kotoka, Avevor etc

@wilsonattitoe3997 3 года назад
@@NATTYBRYTE you expect him to say the truth? Didn't they even ensure the opposition leader didn't take his seat in parliament. He used Afrifa even when he wasn't yet a prime minister.
@emikinc
@emikinc 3 года назад
@@wilsonattitoe3997 You see, that is why Ghana is where it is today. People like you are so gullible such that you believe every fabricated story thrown out there by coup makers. Coup makers will always form stories just to make their coup look reasonable. After all the propaganda thrown out there by those military miscreants, what happened? Their lies found them out and they were brutally overthrown. Go and check the ethnic background of the people we currently have in our military to see if there is ethnic balance. There isn't. This issue came up in Parliament in 2014 when it was discovered that more Ewes were in the military than other tribes comparatively. And the truth is we can never have a proper balance in it's strictest sense so there is no need to accuse anybody of deliberately recruiting more Ewes into the military. We are one people so it is absolutely nonsensical for people to play the tribal card to gain favour or use that as a reason to take some selfish actions. Sadly over the years some unscrupulous people have sought to always play the tribal card instead of thinking creatively to develop this nation and some gullible Ghanaians always fall for it. What did Prof. Kofi Awoonor of blessed memory sought to gain by writing a book on how the Ewes can gain control over the military and civil service? All because he had come to believe in those evil theories that Akans have dominated the political space for far too long. Anybody with godly wisdom will know that such things are needless and useless because you never know who will save you from trouble one day. That person may come from a tribe you dislike. It is time for our generation to walk with the wisdom of God and throw away these conspiracy theories prepared right from the pit of hell to divide us so that the propagators of those evil theories will have the opportunity to manipulate our emotions and rule us without proper accountability.

To all nkrumaist and until the whole world knows the truth.Ghana first president Nkrumah inherited a rich nation in terms of natural resources,but lacking technological and managerial skills,however he became arrogant and embarked on gargantuan spending spree with no coherent strategies to replenish outlays from inherited assets.President nkrumah misruled and dictatorship,precipitated the army police coup against his government,and started a cycle of dictatorial military governments in ghana,culminating into brutal AFRC and PNDC regime extermination of opponents.The all powerful almighty God who spoke and things happened didn't need six days to finish creation,he could finish everything one day or even a second,but just as in his usual humility came to earth and was brutally crucified on the cross,chose six days to finish creation.Why six days?Maybe God is speaking to mankind to finish one major project at a time,if we really want to do a great job.In a nutshell,had president Nkrumah allocated resources to achieve sustainable mechanized agriculture,before large scale industrial diversification ghana would not be importing more food than export now.Obviously,farmers with modern farm equipments would require fewer workers and even layoff some existing workers,then large scale imports substituting industrialisation would become essential since it would provide jobs for displaced farm workers and new entrants to the jobs market.The rush to industrialize shortly after independence with about six million population,drew farm workers on farms located in remote areas without clean drinking water,electricity etc,to newly created lucrative factory jobs in cities,where all the modern amenities were concerntrated.Futher,had president Nkrumah focused on building infrastructures across ghana,and allowed his compatriots to continue,the coup against his government would not have occurred,military interventions in governance would have been unknown in ghana and ghana would have had the political stability to grow economically.The Europeans seeing political stability and economic developments in newly independent ghana would have been motivated to rethink their continue colonization of Africa.The need for ghana to give away 10million pounds to guinea would not have occurred.In America since the first president didn't become a dictator or king,America had the requisite political stability to grow to supersede their colonial master.a word to the wise is enough.
