QOTD: ⚡ Without a doubt on the top of my list of favorite carry wallets. Perfect size, perfect capacity and the feel was great. Let's hear your favorite wallet and for what reason!
Currently using the Das Offene Meer Topslider Quickdraw in Italian Shell Cordovan. My top wallet for carrying UK polymer cash notes and cards. I have 6 cards and 6 (unfolded) cash notes in it. Unfolded is preferable to me 👍🏻🙂
Thanks Richard, I'm warming up to "wrapped" cash wallets versus folding, especially twice. We have the Topslider coming up for review! What do you like or not about it?
Currently using a Levi's Leather Denim Cardholder i loved the material and it can handle up to 4-6 card and 10 slips of cash folded once just fine in a very slim profile
walletopia, long reply Mark, sorry - Likes - Shell Cordovan is my favourite leather; hand made by an active, serving Navy guy making these in his downtime; unique design that is purely his own; no folding of cash notes to make them fit the wallet; separate card and cash areas; 2 quick access slots - 1 card is partly visible, 1 is not visible but accessible just behind it; it smells incredible! lol. I have the Shell Cordovan stamp inside the wallet - this is something I always ask for when I purchase Shell Cordovan wallets. I have the same in my Whiskey “Fat Herbie” Horween Shell Cordovan from Ashland Leather; awesome hand stitching that looks great and should outlive me; whilst not minimalist, it is a very neat, tidy compact wallet design, even when full. Not that much wider than the Port Wallet tbh. 😀 If you needed to, it can be opened and closed one handed (left hand) Dislikes - none I can find yet. I could get more cards and cash in it so I really do not know what is not to love about this wallet. 👍🏻
@@Richard_Barnes Thanks for the detailed reply, this always helps the community. Shell Cordovan is a very nice leather, I love the shine and lack of creasing that comes with it. It's like it's always new.
My last wallet was a bellroy. Used it for about 3 years or so. I was also dissatisfied with the leather quality. It didn’t tear or fray much but the leather compressed and took the form of the contents of the wallet almost immediately after little use. It also looked very worn and stretched more than other wallets quicker. I upgraded now to the dango M1 after looking at your reviews. I have the rail extension on it and the belt clip since I need to have an open ID for work. This new setup allows me to consolidate my work ID with my wallet when previously they were separate.
Hey Mark! I ordered a Bellroy slim sleeve DE (designers edition) over the black Friday weekend. The leather is noticeably thicker on the DE. Loaded the same way it measured 7.3mm vs 6.5mm for the regular slim sleeve. It is a tiny bit taller as well, dimensions wise. The leather is definitely better quality as they state, "hand selected European leathers". Interestingly, it has the same pull tab on the inside, but the back of the wallet does not have the sewn seem, which means they have found a way to incorporate it better on the DE. I would say it's worth it for those of us that don't care about the price ;)
Agreed in all accounts. I just finished recording the review on it and a comparison of it and the regular slim sleeve. The layout is slightly different on the interior and it is a bit pricey, but all around is a solid wallet.
@@supremebarlos It's in the queue for editing, which I expect I'll finish up this week, then I'll shoe-horn it into the publishing schedule. I would look for it within the next 2 weeks.
Hey mark! I just want to say keep up the great work! As a fellow wallet enthusiast, I always look forward to your reviews before I purchase something different. Keep doing great things brother👍🏼
A bit late , but what the heck-Have gently used my (older gen “wine” colored) Slim Sleeve daily for 6 years loaded with 10 assorted cards, 5 bills, no bulk-placed (alone) in my front pocket. It’s pristine-no wear n the areas you showed, or abrasions. Think I bought it in 2012-now it’s in a rotation with other wallets of interest…always come back to it.
I absolutely love my slim sleeve Bellroy such a good wallet I’m definitely a Bellroy fanboy I own multiple wallets and sling bags and key holder all made perfect ❤
Had mine (black) year and a half, and it holds up great. No signs of wear and tear yet. I do carry it in my jacket pocket though. I have 5 cards, 4 bills, 2 business cards and a secret in it. Love the fact that I can pay without having to take the card out. Sometimes miss a little pocket for an extra SIM.
walletopia wanted to update on my use of the wallet, stitching has popped off in two different places, i’ve already contacted bellroy about a warranty claim. still really sucks because i love this wallet, but the durability concerns me and i was one of the unfortunate people that was affected by it. thinking about biting the bullet on the anson calder cash wallet.
I've used my Bellroy (High Line, which I can't find on their website anymore, basically "The Low" but upright for fat, e.g. Euro/Yen bills) for five years now, with a few months in-between where I tried switching to various Ridge/minimalist wallet concepts. I've always come back to it, because it continues to be the perfect wallet for me (if you live in very cash-based societies, at least a compartment for bills is just necessary). Just now I'm starting to see the beginnings of some slight rub-off around the fold edges, but still absolutely tolerable. I do usually carry very few cards though (5-6, two credit cards without embossing (thank god for finally getting there), drivers license, insurance, access cards) and don't sit on it, keeping it in a bag or sometimes a front pocket, which obviously will have an impact on longevity. If the leather continues to hold up like it has done so far, I can easily see myself holding on to it for another five years, maybe even more depending on the options available then. A real shame that they seemingly don't produce it anymore, because even if it began to really disintegrate somewhen down the line, I'd likely be looking to replace it with the exact same model. Their pricing seemed a bit on the edge then, but especially with the benefit of hindsight I don't rue the investment at all.
Thanks for sharing! Great tale of how it’s worked for you and what other could expect from a Bellroy. They have moved to what appears to be a data driven product delivery model. Testing new models, keeping those that sell and dumping the others while they continue to test.
I just bought the Bellroy Slim Sleeve. I love how it's organized in the billfold, and how small and thin it is. But I have concerns about the quality of the leather, also. It's too expensive for this thinner leather. I paid $65 for the color I have (kind of a rust color), but other colors were $79. I have no idea why the difference in price.
I would like to see a carry test for the Nomad slim wallet you’ve reviewed before...I think it will be a great alternative to this in terms of quality and price!
I'd be curious to your opinion on the Bellroy Slim Sleeve Designer edition, as it claims to have better quality leather, and presumably build quality too.
I have that wallet in my stockpile of "yet to be reviewed" wallets. I just pulled it out and took a look. The leather appears more premium, the treatment applied to the leather is nice and the liner is a thicker piece of leather. The construction (template cuts, sewing, etc.) is ALMOST the same. The designer version does not have wrapped corners, they've applied a nice edge treatment which I believe will add to its longevity, it is a nice looking and feeling wallet.
@@walletopia Awesome, thank you. Sounds like its probably not worth the huge price premium, to me anyhow. Thanks for taking the time to look and respond.
I like the look of a lot of the Bellroy gear, BUT, am always put off by their prices for what you get. We need someone to comment on this video that has used one for a long enough time so we can see how much they wear over time. 🙂
It looks like you didn't zero your caliper before measuring the thickness, because the 10mm indicator is clearly visible on the slide while you're getting 7.8mm on the readout (at 7.8mm this wouldn't be visible). Just received my slim sleeve in the mail today and I'm getting 7mm unloaded.
@@walletopia Thanks for responding and confirming! I was excited at first because this would've been the unicorn slim wallet I was looking for. Womp womp, oh well. Fingers crossed this guy holds up.
I consider this wallet a bifold as it "opens up". I never use a billfold pocket so I prefer something small like this. I will also use a "slim" wallet which can function the same, but doesn't open.
