The New Mexico campaign was a military operation of the trans-Mississippi theater of the American Civil War from February to April 1862 in which Confederate Brigadier General Henry Hopkins Sibley invaded the northern New Mexico Territory in an attempt to gain control of the Southwest, including the gold fields of Colorado and the ports of California. Historians regard this campaign as the most ambitious Confederate attempt to establish control of the American West and to open an additional theater in the war. It was an important campaign in the war's Trans-Mississippi Theater, and one of the major events in the history of the New Mexico Territory in the American Civil War. Union forces in the Department of New Mexico were led by Colonel Edward Canby, who headquartered at Fort Craig. Under his immediate command at the fort were five regiments of New Mexico volunteer infantry,[6] a company of the 2nd Colorado Infantry, two provisional artillery units, eleven companies of the 5th, 7th, and 10th U.S. Infantry,[7] six companies of the 2nd and 3rd U.S. Cavalry, and two regiments New Mexico militia. At Fort Union, under the command of Colonel Gabriel Paul, were the 1st Colorado Infantry, a company of the 2nd Colorado Infantry, a battalion of the 5th U.S. Infantry Regiment, a detachment from the 1st and 3rd U.S. Cavalry, a company of the 4th New Mexico Infantry, and two provisional artillery batteries

While going from south to north you can also stop at Hoyo de Manzanares (very close to Madrid), where the village for "A fistful of Dollars" was built, although not a single house is still standing. I have been going to Hoyo almost every weekend for5 decades and still I am mesmerised when I see the mountains backdrop, so recognizable for me in the film. I also visited Sad Hill a year ago, it is outstanding and I loved it. I still have to visit the Tabernas desert in Almería ; one day.

Interessante vedere gli interni delle abitazioni oggi. Sergio Leone, Ennio Morricone hanno fatto film e musica stupendi. Grazie anche a te per questo video.

When I first watched "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", when Tuco told Blondie the gold was in Side Hill Cemetery, I thought he said "Sad Hill". From then on I thought it was Sad Hill Cemetery, until I started seeing tribute videos on RU-vid about the cemetery. I also never knew it wasn't a real cemetery until I saw videos about it on RU-vid. And yes, it is a beautiful location. All of Leone's locations were beautiful. Very enjoyable video. Thank you.

To stand in the Sad Hill circle, where Blondie, Tuco, and Angel Eyes stood, must be a feeling of total excitement! I envy you!

if your time is limited then it worth exploring the north around Sad Hill Cemetery .. whilst the locations are restricted to the Good the Bad & Ugly the landscape and scenery is pretty amazing and reachable from Barcelona

Did you not go to Los Albaricoques? Its further South - the white washed village where they filmed some of a "Fist full of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More" it also has a stone circle from the climax of the former. A Lot of the buildings look the same, although there are a lot of greenhouses in the area now!

I did drive through it and noticed the street names.. like Clint Eastward, but didn't film because it pretty modern now.. but I should have looked harder it seems
