I always found it hilarious how whenever tensions were getting high between Dukat and Weyoun or Damar and Weyoun you can see in the background the Jem'Hadar moving in ready to take action.
Honestly, I think Weyoun missed Gul Dukat during all of his interactions with Dumar: Dukat would have signed that treaty without hesitation while certain that he could easily get back whatever was signed away once the war was over, without ever once thinking that once the war was over the Dominion would have him disposed of. Dumar wasn't so blind or foolish.
"We will not allow your brave soldiers to perish in vain. Oh, but they will perish, quite painfully in fact. Actually, it seems we're receiving a communique from the few survivors right now. ...What's that? To shreds, you say?"
Ah, but it wasn’t in vain! The Dominion got a tiny advantage elsewhere in the world thanks to an entire world of Cardassian soldiers getting turned to gristle! See, promise kept!
@@atomiclena128 He had no reason to be diplomatic. Weyoun is likeable when he wants to be. But he is radical in his believes, cruel and vile in his character. He doesnt give a crap about interspecies bangery. He used it as a tabu to shame them while Vorta are reproduced via cloning. Seems he gets some sense of superiority out of that.
Modern gen z and millenials will not comprehend the nature of Weyoun's comment but it reinforces the utter degeneracy of Weyoun by suggesting such a thing, while at the same time seeming to be cosmopolitan.
ANTONY HARVEY Yeah. Dude's grand. A wonderful character, portrayed by the most appropriate actor. Such great television, from a relative dry period of US programming.
this deal sealed the doom of the Cardassian Union. Damar was not nearly the politician Dukat was .... nor was he blind to how bad the Cardassians were getting bent over by the Dominion.
@@dhinton1 Had the Dominion won, it would have doomed the Breen Confederacy as well. Cardassia made the poor decision to join the Dominion not just because of Dukat, but their own greed as well. Cardassia had just ended a two decade war with the Federation and effectively lost the war having failed to get what they wanted compounded with the withdrawal from Bajor. The Cardassians wanted to get back at the Federation, to take their territory back and claim territory they wanted from the Federation in the first place. The Breen similarly were greedy and wanted power and expansion which was impossible because the Federation was not a power the Breen could have ever stood a chance against before. What neither side ever understood is that the Founders hate and distrust all solids. They only worked with Cardassia and the Breen because they needed them to defeat the Federation and their allies. If the Dominion won, the Dominion would then turn their forces against the Breen and Cardassia and bring them to their knees where they belong.
1:15 I always thought that Jem'Hadar that looked like rhino's with extensive horn growth on their foreheads looked pretty cool. Guess it was a way to mix them up some haha!
@@Gameprojordan Oh they aren't just treated like animals. To the Founders at that time, all solids were animals and were often treated that way. It's why the only solids the Dominion uses in their personal military are genetically engineered clones.
As great and utterly fantastic as this series was, I've always felt the writers really dropped the ball with killing off Demar. It should have been Demar who walked into the commander center like a gangsta and had a finale exchange with Weyoune before killing him. Garak doing this just didn't have the same impact if it had been Demar, who would have been the new leader of what was left of Cardassia.
The one time a major character doesn't have plot armor and people complain, lol. That's the point. Sometimes the perfect doesn't happen. Sometimes the hero doesn't live to see their triumph.
Agreed. Damar's redemption arc was great, but having him gunned down in a firefight by a nameless Jem'Hadar was a waste. His death should have been far more heroic. With nobody to replace him as leader of the new Cardassia, the resistance's victory over the Dominion felt hollow. If Damar had lived, he and Kira could have taken the first step towards a true and lasting alliance between Cardassia and Bajor.
What does he mean 'Minor' planets? Planets rich in mineral resources? Too bad, Cardassia lacks natural resources within their territory, unlike the Federation, where not only has plentiful abundant resources but have advanced replicator technology that can reuse /recycle those resources
I like to think the Cardassians have a historical or cultural association with those planets. Perhaps they fought hard to conquer them, or they produced prominent Cardassians, none of which the Dominion considers relevant. But to the members of the Cardassian Union, they are part of its identity.
I would say a 'minor' planet would be one that holds little to no strategic value. It produces little to nothing of value, and wouldn't hurt the Union if they lost it - other than the dent to prestige, and the physical size of the Union reducing aha.
Most likely, not. Cardassia had already been a part of the Dominion, while Breen had not. Dominion wouldn't have given too much to the Breen since it would have strengthened the Breen and weakened the Dominion. Most likely it was about a bunch of systems on the border.
Damar: have you read this treaty?! There's a reference to territorial concessions that the Cardassians are to make to the Breen, but it doesn't say what those concessions are! Weyoun: oh you needn't worry about that. It's all been itemized in a secret protocol between the Dominion and the Breen. All that is required of you is to sign the document as the acknowledged leader of the Cardassian union! Damar: I want to see this protocol! Weyoun: then it wouldn't be much of a secret then, would it! Damar: you expect me to agree to territorial concessions when I haven't even seen what they are! Weyoun: Damar... you are missing the point! We need the Breen to win this war. When it's over, there will be more than enough territories available to compensate Cardassia for the loss of a few minor planets. Damar: there are no minor planets in the Cardassian union. Weyoun: do you know what I think you should do? Talk to Thot Gor, express your concerns. He's quite reasonable and personable when you get to know him. Damar: I don't trust him or his people. Weyoun: **laughs** Damar: the founders should NEVER have agreed to give away Cardassian territory without my consent! Weyoun: I'm sorry I think I misunderstood you. It sounded as if you were implying that Cardassian territory doesn't belong to the Founders... surely that isn't what you meant... Damar: ... no of course not... Weyoun: oh good... I look forward to receiving the signed documents from you within the hour.
But Weyoun is completely right in this case. If tomorrow the United States will sign an agreement with Mexico ceding to them some borderland in Texas, they wouldn't need any approval from Texas' governor.
I was surprised the dominion never tried to get other races to join them. Like on season 3 finale with the tzenkethi they apparently hate the federation and are at least dangerous enough for the federation to avoid war with them. I'm surprised they never tried to get them again through more manipulations.
The Dominion did work with the Orion Syndicate in secret. Insurrection established that they were allied with the Son'a. They also pretended to be benevolent when they entered the Alpha Quadrant. They kept their treaty with Bajor and gave them a bunch of industrial replicators.
