If compulsions keep the person sick, then is seeking therapy or counseling for a new issue a form of compulsion and assurance seeking? As someone who struggles with this, I frequently get the idea that getting involved in treatment will be an end-all be-all path to resolving future obsessive thoughts.

Seeking help is different from reassurance seeking because seeking help will give you the tools to overcome whatever form your obsessions take on.. where reassurance seeking will keep you stuck in the same thought battle and you’re not learning tools/skills to truly overcome fully as you would by seeking help

I don’t think I want a counsellor who wants to watch buffy the vampire slayer, thank you! You’ve just underlined a different standard to mine, I’m afraid🤷🏼‍♀️
