Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls” embodies the harsh truth behind being a woman. The movie executed the aspects of pain, sorrow, and the characters brought realism to life. I loved how the movie sucks you in from beginning to end, leaving the women stronger than ever in the end.
But it does it at the expense of black men. It makes us look like absolute monsters! Don't get me wrong. The movie was great and it was deep. But It would of been nice to see some of those women hook up with a good brotha with a head on his shoulders doing well in life who would do right by them.
@@mrpj1390 Of course I understand that but the meaning behind the story wasn't about black women not having solid black men. It was about the struggles that women face in their everyday lives. There are millions of movies with great Black men being the wonderful people they are but having that portrayed in this movie (particularly) would stray away from the message.
@@milandrabrown1340 this is not made by Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry did not make for colored girls he was the director of the movie. This movie is based on a musical written by Ntozake Shange made in 1975.
the last lyrics at the end of the song " my skin is BLACK my hair is black...I DO BELONG... lovely message.I am Proud to be a woman of color❤ It's interesting to see the everyday struggles that Ntozake Shange went through in the early 70's...still surround us now. This movie reminds me to stay strong. BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL.
This is an absolute masterpiece. I had tears in my eyes during the movie. As a man I really felt sorry for these women. Idk why but I always had 2pacs lyrics in my mind. I wonder why we take from our women Why we rape our women. do we hate our women?
Honestly, I watch Tyler Perry movies as background noise because most of them are cash grabs (Madea movies) with no plot line. This is one of the only films of his I truly ever payed full attention too. I can’t even tell you how much I cried watching this movie. Beautifully directed and well acted!
As A fifth generation Mexican-American... I am inspired. I respect black women, black artists. I write music, I write poems. I’ve come many friends with similar personalities as these characters. Experiencing love, death, abuse, racism, heartbreak, and I’m always there for them. Nina Simone’s Four Women in the background really is appropriate to shed light on these challenges the women face. There’s beauty in the darkness. I stand with those who are proud to be in color of their skin. I will always have respect in never forgetting who you are. I hope to act in films similar to this especially with Tyler Perry. Black & Brown must stick together. Brown Pride. Black Lives Matter. God Bless
Your comment needs more likes. So well put and just…. It just makes me feel good to hear people thinking this way. Thank you for sharing. I hope your year was well.
its written as a poem and not easy to understand...the movie was so illuminating... like reading one of Toni Morrison's complex books example Beloved...I had to get that as an audiobook...read by the author and then I really 'got' it!!! thanks for audio books.
@@MsConfident14You can see what black women go through on a daily basis here in the United States 🇺🇸. A country where racism is institutionalized and the defense mechanism is developed in the black community
This was a very touching but gutwrenching & heartwrenching movie !!! Tyler Perry touched on subjects that in the African American community we don't really talk about. I'm a Sexual abuse/physical abuse survivor so this movie really hit home
This movie made me cry so bad!! It's my Life story in black n white, I've been raped about 5 times n my mother protect my rapist, had an abortion, physically abused by ex husband n slept around with different men trying to close a big whole in my heart 🤣 fall in love n got HIV.. damn iv been through it all
Genesis Alexander No problem! If fully understand it is a heart-wrenching movie but it makes me think so much about the life I was fortunate enough to be given
It's a great movie, but the scene with the kids getting thrown out of the window is way too disturbing and heartwrenching for me. I have reviewed it on my channel. My letter grade is an A-.
@@ladytruth303wow. I thought I was the only one that felt like that. Definitely have to be in the right mood/frame of mind, cuz some parts are really depressing.
Re-watching this masterpiece on Tubi as I type this. As a spoken word artist, I love how they intertwined Ntozake Shange's poetry into the movie. These Sistas played the heck out of their parts! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Black women as a culture go through so much shiit and we call them strong like they dont need love in their lives to😩🤦🏾♂️💯. Trust me i lived with 3 of them
This was a good movie but such a depressing one, I think the only good part was Kerry Washington's husband . Also why does Kimberly always play either a sad, mad, angry or depressed woman in every movies. I mean she does embodies the roles exceptionally well but my goodness give this woman a chance at something else....
One of my favorite movies. I love Miss Loretta Devine - excellent actress always. And I could recognize her distinct voice even before I see her .. lol 💖💖
Award winning performance. This movie is very deep. Hits your heart strings, but very teachable. It's 2022 and I'm bout ready to watch it again right now. The best. 👏⭐️🥇
This move deserves Oscarssssss.Very difficult to watch.I was so tired last night that I couldn't sleep and something told me check what's new on Tubi and this was the first movie that popped. It made me feel some type of way all day and think.Great acting but very painful movie to watch.
I never gave this movie a chance before because I thought the title sounded divisive (I now understand where the title came from) 13 years later it happened to be on TV...I have no words. What a life-changing experience this movie was for me. I'm not sure I've ever seen something so simultaneously artistic, dark, disturbing, ugly, and beautiful. Wow, Tyler Perry, just wow.
This movie basically fucked me up but in a good way. I haven't been able to forget this after seeing it once in like 2012 and I can still feel each one of their pain
its interesting to see how the actresses have grown over the years and how prominence dictates things like credit listing. If this film was made now, in 2018, Tessa Thompson would definitely be listed/credited (she's been blowing up the last few years), and Kerry Washington probably wouldn't be the last name to appear (Scandal came out in 2012).
This movie isnt only for colored women tho i think all women can take something positive from this movie this movie was so devastating but it was a really good movie
This is one of my favorite movies even though I'm not a person of color. It's still such a good movie and honestly some of this stuff can happen to anyone but I know that's not the point. Definitely a really good movie from Tyler.
I realize that the movie is based on a play from the 70s ... I am shook that this movie was ao f-ing brutal ... It came out in 2010 and it makes all the black men in it look like garbage ... I didn't know Tyler Perry was so twisted.
This film is dedicated to the reality here in the United States 🇺🇸 through black women who suffer psychologically because of the racism that is institutionalized, in fact it is a defense mechanism that is developed by African-Americans since they are always on the defensive
Hey, Asian women tend to struggle just as hard as black women because they are expected to modernize but also want to maintain their cultural heritage. If I could write, produce, and direct a film about the struggles of Asian women and title it "East meeting West" I would gladly do it because Asian American actors are severely underrepresented in the acting business. The women would be of Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Chinese, Taiwanese, Filipino, Korean, and Japanese ancestry as those are the most dominant Asian ethnic groups in the United States. It wouldn't be a drama film, but it would be a documentary.
While I think the subject of your "documentary" sounds interesting, dount ever compare the struggle of Asian women to that of black woman. There is no where near a comparison. Your struggle is modernization while preserving your cultural heritage? Ours is having out identity stripped away, by a culture that hates us but loves what we do. No, one looks at an Asian woman and automatically assumes she is argumentative or loud, but they do if the woman is black. I fond it funny how there are always people like you that come to a black successful area(ie this movie) and try to push your own unwanted "me too" views. Why not go rally at Crazy Rich Asians whitch by the way only featured white/asian actors?
Excellent ensemble! Hopefully his usual bland- style of directing- format won't damage this film. The play was phenomenal, my ex was cast in it so I am familiar with it.
When I was younger I never used to wanna watch this movie because I knew it was sad and it was too long about 4 hours on bet and now watching this movie, I’m much older now and Now I understand the movie ☹️☹️☹️, but they had a really good cast 💙
Interesting. Racist filmmakers spend their time denigrating black women and men most often while in their communities there are more people with mental disorders, depressives without a future and some who are born with schizophrenic illnesses.
I agree some of Tyler Perry's movies are ridiculous-although i still love them-he has a talent for showing drama, or emotional drama. Like in some of the movies that are suppose to be comedy, he puts in a family death or a traumatizing, life-changing event, and it is amazing, it is so emotional.
im watching now, but wow. he was incredible chica. showing his real acting chops. i m watchin the scene now, bout to turn my head when he toss them the lil kids out the window. sad but so real, sad it happens. shouldn't but it does."
@@LawMami0806 yep. i agree justine, good seeing u again here on you tube, grl and i was just watching it myself on cable 2 days ago. so intensely sad, but so real so i watch at times, get emotional but yea, such a great actor he proven to b in this one movie, others but mainly this 1.
@l9ois hmm... I don't know about that. Not to say anything bad about Thandie, but Mariah Scarey wasn't so bad in "Precious", was she? She might be one of those actresses that her performance depends on the director and the script...
That's why we say that we do not take anyone home whether it is a man or a woman because we never know the hearts of people and what they hide behind their heads. Even worse, some strangers take negative energies into people's homes and that's spiritual.
@@jemimakwaza4763 Well it depend on which GOD you serve either Jesus or the devil. All the women in the movie was devil worshiper which lead them to hell.
I LOVE EVERY MOVIE TYLER PERRY MAKES!🖤 I LOVE HOW HE MAKES THE BLACK COMMUNITY FEEL EMPOWERED✊🏿 AND PROUD TO BE BLACK! 🙌🏿 ESPECIALLY IN A WORLD THAT TELLS THEM TO FEEL THE EXACT OPPOSITE!💔😢
