Pommel jabs are pretty realistic, him doing a closer in rotation hit to push through guard makes sense, his heavies show how difficult it is to wield the sword far from his body, but bruh, those stupid fucking light and heavy combos are ridiculous
I'm a huge fan of Viking History, and I've been saying for years they need to make the vikings in For Honor more civilized. Half of them are cannibals or bloodlusted hobos
Or at least give them some different gear going from savages to more realistic and proper arnored ones. As far as Vikings go in the game is just a shirt with increasingly bigger carcasses in the head.
Well its believable cause if you watch his animation he's grabbing the blade ( wich is a dumb thing to do ) and the handle therfore hes pretty much using it as a pole and if you do some digging ( its late as balls and I want sleep ) there was a guy that used a claymore and a battle axe for combat it not fiction cause you have texts written by the scots talking about him
I'm guessing he's using the momentum of the blade to generate speed and force, but the only thing actually keeping him on the ground is just pure muscle.
when modern words are so similiar to Older ones It Just gives me the sense of the Old culture Living and beeing Reborn in the new world, immortalized, gone but not forgotten. I love that.
Well highlanders fought Vikings . They weren’t Germanic Vikings they were Celtic pict warriors. Some highlanders were actually knighted during the Middle Ages .
The Picts had long been absorbed by the Scottish Gaelic Dal Riatan culture at that point, and various Viking armies interbred with them. So no, highlanders hadn’t been Picts for centuries.
@@crywlf9103 I think you’re a little confused . Highlanders are pure pict. Not sure where you’ve dug your history up, probably to satisfy your own version of history.
@@damianthebeholder6775 Highlanders aren't a separate genepool. If they ever were it was long before the scots absorbed the pictish kingdoms. Nobody in Scotland can truly say they are pictish.
Fun fact : he ties himself to a specific Highland clan called the MacGilvreys, because of the phrase "Dunmaglas". Which is a place where that particular clan is from. Also, I'm a decedent of said clan! Nice that I get to bonk people with my cousin! Another phase translates to " touch not this cat who's paw is ungloved." Which was a battle cry for the MacGilvreys! Nice video by the way!
@@dah195 You are correct, tho currently mentioned phrase grew into some form of a meme and is used to tackle giant problem with alcoholism in Poland not to mock fatherhood itself.
What I like about the Dunmaglass hilt is that it looks a lot like Gregor Clegane's greatsword hilt in Game of Thrones. It adds another layer of realism.
Right listen It is now by medieval terms no it’s not By historical terms no it’s not By present terms yes it is It’s easier just to refer to it as a claymore as it’s recognisable and can technically be correct
If video games have taught me anything, it’s that we are missing out on lore and the hardy and defender guards were once one sword with four foils, but a tragic event split them into two pieces. It is our duty to reunite them and make the perfect “claymore”
As a rep 70 highlander, the second I saw that Gallowglass image you showed on video I knew exactly what hilt you would be talking about lol. I'd use the Dunmahglass hilt if it weren't for the wooden grip texture looking like a baguette. Awesome vid, can't wait to hear what you say about HL's armor!
Ah, I've been waiting for your new videos, looking forward to seeing you rip apart the everything about the accuracy of the size and thickness of the claymore haha, mans look like he is wielding a boulder when he runs
It’s explained in the lore. Essentially, the Vikings helped what would be their version of Scotland fight off foreign invaders, so they returned the favor by helping Valkenheim (the Viking country) in the Faction War.
You did it. You absolute madlad. I hope you realise what kind of floodgates you've opened now that you did a non-knight. Also, loving the increased amount of sass in these newer videos
So happy to see my main Highlander here. I didn't expect him to be as historically plausible as you pointed out. I always assumed he was a beefed up version of the romanticized Highlander, which he still is, but seeing that his weapons are somewhat inspired by other existing ones from nearby cultures is nice. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is baffled by the fact that he lacks any proper options for the classic "highlands claymore" with quillons look (I am referring to the great sword, not the basket hilted sword. Apparently even though this usage is technically incorrect, it has become widely accepted due to how widespread it is.) I really wonder what his new armor will look like and which direction they can take him, considering Aramusha, Shaman and Centurions new armors all brought something new to the table.
You wouldn’t use a claymore like a normal sword , you’d die that way It was made for large sweeps If you had to hit someone with it more than once chances are you’re not using it right
@@SM-gd2rn well I guess but gladiator uses a god-damn fishing tool as a weapon so I guess a samurai with a sheild is not out of the realm of possibility
The mercenary explanation parallels what we know about the Highlanders in lore, so coincidence or not that's cool. Also if it's not a coincidence hes probably only wearing leathers to fit in with the Vikings and is probably the second most heavily armored of his faction to make up for that.
>"I don't know how you connect danes to Scotland and Ireland.." C'mon bud, you literally mentioned the Gallowglass who were spawned from the Danelaw and North Sea Empire.
they're usually regarded as being separate from highland culture, especially as they were famously exiled from Scotland by Robert the Bruce for previously being against his claim to the throne
@@ThaLoser Aye, but the mention of the Gallowglass was to establish some of the influence to HL. That it's kind of a more scottish and fantasy Gallowglass. So when there's mention of Dane influence that's then confused.. it just bore mentioning to me.
The definition of claymore is controversial but the reality of the situation is that the meaning has shifted, it is correct to call a 2 handed Scottish sword with forward sloping quillions a claymore by the modern sense of that word, much like how decimated doesn't mean to destroy 10% of a thing anymore. In addition words like great sword, arming sword rapier and side sword didn't mean the same back then as those words do now. Amazing video as always!
By the way, the sword actually IS a claymore. Skallagrim gets this wrong, too. Granted, it's actually the lesser-known claymore because, historically, they weren't all that popular. This particular sword is called a "claidheamh-mòr" in Scottish Gaelic (pronounced "clay-ev morr"), deriving into "clay more". On a side note, the Gaelic pronunciation of "claidheamh" actually sounds a lot like the English word "cleave". Rather fitting for an anti-cavalry weapon.
#thankyoumiura I became a Highlander main purely because of the giant sword and my love for berserk. Plus fun fact, Kentaro Miura said that the main character from the movie “Highlander” reminded him a bit of Guts
I think the term "Claymore" still fits. Why not? That's what the sword is culturally, and you can distinct the two with "claymore" and "basket-hilted claymore". Claymore is just the englishified word that means "large sword", isn't it? Well, the Claymore is a large sword. Not a greatsword, but certainly in the middleground between a longsword and a greatsword, and they were often heavier than longswords. Most people in history didn't use the terminology we do. They just called everything a sword.
Cool keep on going ! I cant wait for pecekeper Also F in chat couse geting rep 7 with him will hurt a lot (Even after rework) I personaly wait for gryphon Couse of his atack animations (Also gryphon should be viking reeeee)
I mean, Gryphon uses a Bardiche which is a late medieval/early renaissance eastern european pole arm which wouldn't quite fit in with the viking aesthetic but then again, neither does the highlander-
@@darthplagueis13 But his base armour is fiting for viking Scales, fur, big beard xd I personaly wanted renesance faction Vanguard rapier (bleeding) Heavy bardiche(gryph kick mix up) Asasin sabre(soft faints, turkish slap) Hybrid gret sword (spining, faints)
Yo, u haven't mentioned Errah blade in the vid, but I don't really understand why, cos it's the thinnest from all the blades that HL has and it got pretty good proportions. What are your thoughts about it?
Omfg, that Gallowglass sword set looks perfect, now I wanna play Highlander just to build it. Unfortunately his armor don't help him that much in term of looks... I would like more if his scale armor was like Gryphon's, full iron scale (and Idk why mail hauberk is not a thing already in For Honor).
I like to think that For Honor takes place in an alternate timeline and that is why there are ancient Romans and whatnot all within the same time period.
That is actually the whole lore It is an alternate history where a great cataclysm happened that pretty much nearly destroyed the world Why do you think the japanese who during all of their history are in japan are now in the myre Cause the whole of japan sunk to the bottom of the ocean
"Don't know how you'd connect the Danes to Scotland or Ireland-" The screams of Somerled's descendants can be heard from here. (Though the word Dane is more applicable in its broader description of Scandinavian Raiders)
I just came from you're lawbringer video and I have a small gripe about you're cape theory, wouldn't the weapon have to be razor sharp to cut clean through a loose hanging piece of fabric, if you're in a fight with more then just you and you're opponent meaning they have clashed with others probably dulling the weapon, so it would at least slow or stop a slash, although not a good stab
The sword looks huge cause highlander is the shortest male character in the game. Yeah, the sword is still massive but next to highlander its size is greatly exaggerated.
I love this Video just as I do all the others but yeah dunmaglass weapon set is just juicy I literally have gallowglass sword and it's just beautiful. Also you doubt the size of my bedroom mister dani
The only explanation I can think of, that actually would make more sense, for the For Honor universe would be that their whole planet is just a multiverse or timeline dumping ground. Soldiers, weapons and armor just appear there over time.
Seems like it since all pf the factions in for honor have different heroes from different eras and some not even from the middle ages at all i thnk centurion and gladiator are a good example but i also thnk jiang jun is also a good example too of wht i mean sincr he is base of on guan yu who is alive during the warring states period of china before the medeaval era
Fun Fact: For Honor is actually a fantasy game, since it's not set in the real world and the warriors are just fantasy representation of historical ones or even mythology (shugoki is the Oni, Shaolin is Wukong). Saying that For Honor is unrealistic is like saying Mario is unrealistic since he can jump more than a normal plumber and shoot fireballs
Fun fact Higlander in polish version of game is called Gaidheal The word higlander translate to ,,Góral" so i dont get why they didnt use this name Conguer is called ,,pogromca" with is literal translation
Talking about the timelines, i imagine 2 headcannons, 1 Time traveling romans or WEEBS, imagine it they are all from the same period but when war exploded the crazy one decided to dress like ancient warriors and that explains why mosnt of them dont have propper armor or technique, they are just interpreting what they could form the history and manuals. now goign a but further, i would love to see what would happen if they add Inida or even america to the mix
what is if was some sort of bearing sword? which were comically large swords and due to his high stature it is very long and tall with most bearing swords being considerably larger/taller then fully grown men around the medieval and as late as the 18th century?
