Works like Aramusha full block and has a new mini mechanic called "bind" (at least I think that's what they called it) that if it connects, even on externals, stops the attack and stuns the opponent for a short while.
they would find this laughable and insulting tbh, since there were no women in the Varangian Guard and the general attitude towards the very thought of women being in the army was, well, you know.
@@Commander_Boreale Sure but women fought in wars in the viking ages too, maybe not necessarily in the Varangian Guard but shieldmaidens were quite prominent amongst viking tribes.
I don't understand, they discussed in the warrior's den about not having a male Valkyrie because "there were none" but then give us a genlocked character which historically speaking was comprised of all males? Ubi wat?
They're hypocrites. They have enough budget to do both. If the game wasn't doing well, they wouldn't even be supporting it. If it *wasn't* doing well, then they should repurpose the budget they put toward the garbage armor this season for a male variation. I *could* understand the male valk stance. Valkyries are mythological and all female. However, that's contradictory to how the majority of the cast should've been male locked simply based on history. Also, who seriously envisions a fem-zerker? Its hypocritical and should've just been hand waved as people always wanted a male viking with spear and a shield maiden with a damn sword.
@@brokenhanz-o4mI understand the females for the other heroes, but this one makes no sense. Gen locked heroes have been the bane of my existence since launch. Where’s my female warlord? Where’s my male peacekeeper?
@@brokenhanz-o4m i always wonder why they target ppl that dont play video game as possible market lol They could just play the game for less than 2h, have a review then post it for like and refund it. While the real customer who actually plays the game has to bear the problem here
@cornbreadinator There were female Varangian Warriors, not guards sure, but still. Also....I think this isn't exactly a historical fighting game considering we have a pirate who has a Semi Automatic flintlock, a Samurai who is actually from an Anime etc
@@brokenhanz-o4m If they were going for historical accuracy then they failed. This whole game is just the result of a drunken arguement between who would win. a viking a knight or a samurai.
I hope both genders are available like jormungandr. i want to identify somehow with the heroes and i see no reason why there shouldn't be a male version for this one. I understand it for characters like Shugoki or Nobushi but some like this one or Kyoshin or Warmonger should get more Options.
@@Joemama-xw2wyThe character s all use the same hitbox models and all new characters have like 2 armor sets they have 6 months in between adding characters they are just lazy they have over 200 people working in just there models department
To reduce costs. Ubisoft allocates very little resources for For Honor's development. Also, they don't want to deal with two different models for each new hero.
They don't and it's the worst decision of this release. I get the Varangian Guard is here for revenge against her uncle but why not give us a male version as well?
New fear unlocked, thanks 😅 I hate that I can totally see them making yet another blunder with a female spartan warrior. Which would likely deny us King Leonidas as the hero skin…
The most pumped ive EVER been for this game in 6 years only for it to stolen from me by being gender locked and sounding like shes giving birth every swing she does, to the point i uninstalled the game out of shear disappointment knowing we'll never get a fully armored male stoic viking because thats shouldve been standard from day one but no better to flex your muscles in frostbite level winter am i rite? Just give me the vikings commander armor for raider and ill be satisfied (so will the rest of us viking mains) since ubi has a history re using assets. PLEASE. I pray for the day vikings get good fashion
Fun fact: Most of the varangian guard were swedes. Swedish Vikings had a larger influence on eastern europe more so than danes and norwegians. They help built the kiev rus empire and uniting slavic people and had a large impact on ukrainian and russian history.
At the start sure varangians were mostly swedish but as words spread out more and more across scandinavia as a whole wanted to join the varangian guard.
Having this hero as a gender locked female is kinda a huge L. Gender lock in general sucks, but this hero particularly should’ve been male. New executions all look fire tho.
@cornbreadinator Yeah Ubi must be ran by a female behind the scenes. Or a mega simp. There were exactly zero female varangian guards. Oh well let's let them kick history in te cubes some more.
@@brokenhanz-o4m Not just Odyssey though, Valhalla too. Eivor is canonically a female, which if you played the game and understood the lore of it, Eivor being female makes NO SENSE AT ALL and it was definitely a ‘creative’ choice by Ubisoft for the sake of inclusion.
@@krakenmckraken9128 yea cause the Byzantine empire is paying for it. It’s also because the Viking renounced paganism for Christianity. Which means the next hero is Mongol for the Wulin.
@@Mr.Panther2320 No they announced map reworks, that's where they take a map like sentinel or forge which people hate and somehow make them even worse. Only temple garden, high fort and harbour are worth playing and knowing ubi it will almost definitely stay that way till the servers shut off
@@Mr.Panther2320 yes, that is what they're doing. Not sure what the other guy is talking about. It's deathmatch maps they are reworking into dominion maps, and if you're a normal for honor player, it'll feel like new maps enough because no one plays death match lol
Another actual cool hero who’s locked under being a women within a historical background that wouldn’t have had women in that position. Good one Ubisoft
The worst part is that she has the armor I’ve always wanted them to add. I honestly didn’t think they would be stupid enough to gender lock THIS character to the historically wrong gender but here we are. I will never get to play as a stylish male Viking.
Vangarian probably should have been male, but from what I can tell she doesn't have overly feminine animations (what i worry about) and she's as bulky as I would expect a vangarian Guard to be. lets just hope they nail the fashion
Woah, you're telling me Knights, Samurai, Vikings and the Chinese didn't ACTUALLY fight each other? You're telling me this all might be Not True?! Far out, man.
@@TechbotALPHA There's a big difference between game lore that not many players care about, and character design which almost every players cares about.
Because we got a male hero last, so its female time. And the game has always been like this. They've always added females to historical fighting groups because they wanted to. Did you also complain about how you can make them any skin colour?
@@TechbotALPHA Yes it's fantasy and fiction but it still came from real history and from history no women served in the Varangian Guards let's honor the real one's yeah
Was there actually any gameplay of the new hero in this? It showed some new executions for others but I was trying to get a feel for how she plays. All I got is she has a dash fwd heavy and some of her executions
@@Ssol-leks I just watched the devs break down kit yes you are right she has a “timed based” all block that she can use to do what you’re talking about
Please make an update in the future that gives us more freedom in expression wilhile customizing. We need every hero to have gender choices unless their assigned one fits the play style such as Nuxia or Afeera
After 7 years I wouldn't get hopes up. Been playing since beta. Prices have always been 5,000 & 7,000 too. Everything is way too much steel in the game
Every hero they've brought out since Gryphon has been gender locked so I'm guessing every hero from now on will be limited to one gender rather than letting the player choose male/female
For honor team really needs to listen to a lot of our feedback on this one I know that the gender issue is strange but look at the amount outreaching on it let alone how many people would love that for many of the characters this would have been the right one to start it again with or is to
Most players are male. The most popular faction since launch has been viking. The vikings have been down a hero for a while. We finally got a historical viking wearing decent armor. They make it female locked when one of the games biggest draws is customization. I've been anti-genderlock since launch but I think the reason we're seeing so many speak on it now is simply because its impacting more people than ever.
Agreed, I didn’t really have a problem with the few gender-locked characters in the games early stages but they’ve stepped on people’s toes with this one, and for good reason. This was a really bad move and they should’ve put a tiny bit more effort into making it dual gender. Or the correct gender for the hero at least.
Too bad they’re one of the most tone-deaf companies ever when it comes to the people who actually play their games. On some of their loading screens they brag about how diverse their team is, let’s hope eventually they hire someone with common sense 🤞🏻
so am I the only one who thinks that the character lore is badass. A viking betrayed by madox or whatever the last highlanders name was to come back years later for revenge.
@BreakingWhite not really since alot of people hated the fact characters like warmonger and pirate were gender locked so it's a valid concern for people who like playing the gender they want to play
