i have it and it overheats almost by just doing nothing once you launch one of those pro camera apps.Waiting for a fix. currently in the beautiful city of Paris

I upgraded to the 1 IV from a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, and I couldn't be happier. It's slick and fast, and there's virtually no bloatware (looking at Samsung ;-), and the cameras are brilliant, as is the camera software. It can overheat now and then, but disabling face/eye focus and object tracking helps quite a bit. I only enable them when I need to.

@@OeHomestead thanks i might do that and disable some of the features to enjoy longer shooting. . honestly i also have a samsung (fold 3) and i honestly prefer samsung software, OS updates and features pack on most occasions, also i did. not find anybloatware except macafee . Gaming or watching content is also much better. On the otber hand, Xperia 1IV is slick and seems to have easily 1.5 day battery life.., sad they replaced one of the sim by an esim too.. Also Xperia 1 IV still looks like a regular phone which is nice too. Might be looking next year at S23 ulltra, it will probably be one hell of a caméra beast too

I love the phone, I still use xperia 1 till now, but Sony needs to put cooling chamber in their Xperia line, the overheating is always a deal breaker for me to new xperia

Great roundup of the Xperia-features, would love to see that Xperia vs iPhone shootout someone else mentioned, but it can’t be with the stock iPhone video cam software, it has to be with something like filmic pro on the iPhone - actually, a filmic pro vs other advanced video camera apps would probably be a good video idea, as well as a photography app shootout :)

I'm sorry to say this and I do think the phone has great potential but I have one and it overheats in like in 5 to 10 mins if you're in video or photo mode...and I know I'm not the only one saying this.... so if they can't solve that problem this phone is not worth the money just yet!

@@Sabundy because most people are not into Photography but just want to take good pics and they always use Auto-mode. Like you can be keen on eating in great restaurant without being good yourself with cooking, being interested on cars and formula 1 without being good with your hand and mechanics.

loving the xperia 1 iv after getting it a bit over a year ago. ive only run into the overheating issue a few times and only during extended use during summer (~32 degrees ambient). im also dissapointed in the picture quality of the telephoto lens compared to the other lenses. not sure but they somehow lack in contrast. its hdr mode pales in comparison to its google and apple and samsung peers, but you wont get sony's more natural look if you were after the artificial hdr look in those phones. the stock video app is great except that i wish they added an option to increase the bitrate. the highest level is still not enough for me. i had to get Filmic Pro to get the quality i wanted. the photo app is also ok but again sony has crippled the photos with a high jpeg compression. i got ProShot to get less jpeg compression photos. apart from those, a really brilliant phone.

Crazy I didnt have any overheating? Although I cant say I did continuous recording for many minutes just more quick broll shots. What were you using the phone for when u film that long?

@@TeppoHaapoja the first one only checking the camera settings started to overheating, the second one just regular video recording, I live in Scandinavia , so imagine buy this phone in a hot country. It was Sony who sent you that unit?

It totally depends how u use ur phone for filmmaking. If u want control and good quality then the Sony is great. But if u dont want control but want quick and easy then Iphone is great

I think most people would be very disappointed with the Sony coming from an Iphone. But if you hate the heavily overprocessed look from the Iphone the Sony could be something for you.

Just saying, I got the Mark 2 of this phone. Using Filmic Pro, I can get 120 FPS in 4k on the Mark 2. I wonder with each generation how much they limited them due to software features

Actually they didn't limit anything. In fact, they added 4K 120 FPS support to the Mark 2 when they released the Mark 3.

It's an interesting phone, but I heard many things from other reviewers as well, seems like it's not that attracting in any other term and not everyone will be able to use all the pro apps and just want a point and shoot experience which I understood isn't that great here, but forget all of it aside, the price!!! this is the thing that probably will prevent most of the people even think towards buying this phone

@@TeppoHaapoja yeah. Video pro app eats up the soc and overheats it. I just tried to film here in Malmö Sweden on vacation and I had to wait for it to cool down. I left my alpha cameras at home :(
