Ah Flora! Your videos are always so inspirational! Your strength and courage to show the whole process, and put yourself out there (I guess for your own growth, as well as helping others grow), is a beautiful thing and I admire you for doing this. I also love the fact you don't follow photographic trends, but have your own voice and vision in your incredible work. Looking forward to the next one!

I don't feel that any photographer should be fearful about showing his/her work. We all have different styles and interests. That is part of what makes Photography so interesting. I found yiour video to be very interesting and refreshing!!!

Great lighting for your video. Great message in your video. It takes courage to share your work out there. Well done.

I think it can sometimes be hard to share, especially if you are making work that is very personal to you. Most of my photography is either just snapshots of interesting details around me, or events if I’m doing it for money. I have some other work that is more personal but that is shared to a much smaller audience if at all.

You might like Magnum Contact Sheets if you want a book that shows you a broader range of photographers' work along with an insight into their editing process.

Just a thought. I remember telling my photographer professor that a good photographer is the one who is able to choose 'the photo'. We've seen these books where you get to see all the contact prints from a photographer, but it's only 'one' photo that they've chosen. And, that I think is one of the most important aspects of photography, being able to see (from everything you took) .... the image. And often, others don't see it, until you pick it out from the others and say, this one. However, William Eggleston said he only takes one photo, and one photo only. He said that if he had to choose between shots, he couldn't do it, so one photo (shot) only.

7:24 Same. I don't post my best work because i feel like its meant for something greater then to be seen for a second then forgotten... idk. I got back and forth, its annoying.

This video is so refreshing in the sea of all those "in your face," "smash that like button" videos. I love your calm energy and that you're being your authentic self. The notes on the phone were so cute, I do that all the time, even in my first language (which also isn't English). :) May I ask where you're from?

The only reason that I didn't want to share my photos on line is that in my mind, the internet is a license to steal.

Thank you. I am that guy who posts something and will erase it if I feel it’s not getting traction. Even start to have self doubts about whether I should be making photographs at all; specially the idea that I am delusional if I continue on this path. True: we can’t control how others respond to one’s work. Yet sure hard to let that sink in without being tempted at times to just give up.

What truly matters I believe is if we enjoy what we create and if we like it. And also to answer to the question : "Why do I make art? Why do I take photos?" . Thank you for sharing your experience in the comments.

I do not share my images. Part of the reason is the lack of skills to post my images. I also don’t know how to post process the images in software like Lightroom. The second reason is I’ve looked at YT videos with people sharing their work. Their comments are frequently very positive. My reaction to the same images is frequently negative. I’ve shared my feedback along with why I didn’t like or appreciate the work. I didn’t receive any acknowledgment about my feedback. I am seeking a place I can share my work and receive feedback I can use. I don’t need to hear that my work is good. If I share the work I am telling you I think it is good. Tell me the people at the edge of the frame are distracting. Tell me the exposure is off. Tell me you don’t like the gesture and why. Saying I like the image without some criticism isn’t helpful. I attend workshops and receive valuable feedback there. They tell me what they like and don’t like in the images. They also tell me why. They ask questions such, as did you consider this? I want feedback from people that know what they are looking at. YT doesn’t seem like the forum for me. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

This is a great response, I too live without the digital world (YT excepted), your process sounds great, be encouraged. I dont have opportunities that you enjoy but I curate my projects and print them as zines which I distribute randomly for free through coffee shops - funny thing, I have never had a random email in response but that doesn't bother me. (They have picked it up and taken it so see some value in it, that is enough for me.) In doing all this I realise the last thing the world needs is another photo book but, like you, it is my chosen retirement hobby.

I don't show my photographs to anyone. Not even my kids see many of them. I just take a picture when I see something I like with no intention to share it. I know that one of these days( I am 74 ) they will have to decide what to do with all of these prints and I know most will be trashed... so what... it has just been a pass time for me.

Sounds like you have a huge archive with photos, It's never too late I believe to do something with it if you feel like it!
@grahamrichards8531
@grahamrichards8531 6 месяцев назад
You might like to curate your archive with a view to tell the story of some aspect of your life, print it as a zine, members would then have the option of treasuring this when you have passed on. With future generations it will gain a huge historic value and become an important part of the family genealogy - just thinking!

I very much respect your desire to have this channel but I personally don't care to have a channel. To me, it becomes work and that's not why I like photography.

To me, it's hard to judge your photography because your sex appeal at times can be blinding. So, I'll just enjoy both. 👍
