Foraging and eating Hogweed Florets!

Thanks so much. We’re rewilding our little acre here in Ireland and we have a fabulous crop of Hogweed. I’m thrilled to find that it’s edible and delicious. Can’t wait to give it a go!

Ive been eating the new stems, not flowering here in wilts yet, tip- you can use the seeds in a peppermill, collect in autumn, use like pepper or chilli flakes

I just found your channel. I can confidently identify Common Hogweed but have never plucked up the courage to try it. I actually ate Ground Elder today and enjoyed it so Hogweed is next. I am so frightened that I might pick young Giant Hogweed by mistake. I mean even Giant Hogweed starts out tiny.

Thanks for this one!! I've just started foraging hogweed this spring and all those slight differences in hogweed phenotypes can a bit confounding - so thanks for making particular note of that! Does giant hogweed have a stage where it could be small enough to confuse for common hogweed? I'm trying to avoid confusing it with the common hogweed phenotype where the leaves are a bit shinier, pointier and less hairy on top but don't have a blotchy stem (fully green or with a purple stripe)...

I have to say, absolutely brilliant content, right up my street. I'm deep diving into learning plants and foraging, and definitely have to try Hogweed and maybe even make a recipe! Keep the videos coming, subbed and binged about 6/7 vids 😅👊

Where can they be usually found? Around what type of trees? Northeast USA

Are the sheaths around the florets edible? Just getting used to IDing hogweed currently but I'd love to try it
