We're searching for sweet chestnuts today, showing you how to open and gather them then what we do with them once we get them home. They're a wonderful source of free nutrition in October and November and readily freezable for use in nut roasts, pies, soups, and to liven up vegetable side dishes. Hope you enjoy watching our approach to one of my favourite forages of the year. Do share your chestnut stories and cooking advice in the comments!
Chestnut links (these use different techniques to ours, but why not try. I've picked up a little advice from this research to apply next time!):

✿ 2022 FAQ ✿
"What do you use to film your videos?"
I use a combination of a GoPro Hero9 for general walk videos and timelapses, Nikon Coolpix P1000 for wildlife and plant closeups, and occasionally my Samsung S20 for further incidental shots.
"Why do you make nature walk videos?"
Of course, I encourage everyone to just go out and see your own local nature, but at the same time I want to share my local patch with people from all around the world and for people who cannot so easily access nature. I want to inspire more engagement with the outdoors in the hope of helping people form a personal bond with the wonder of the natural world.

This was such an interesting video! So satisfying seeing them come out of their pods.

We have horse chestnuts in our local wood but looking at the green fluffy seed pod, I think we may also have edible chestnuts too. If I find some and correctly identify them, then I might have a go at roasting some. There is also something really enjoyable about watching the chestnuts being squeezed out of the pods haha. Thanks for sharing this with us :)

We are a bit obsessed with the chestnuts hunting 🌰 Getting them from the pods is the best bit, apart from maybe eating them 😋 Hope you do find some, they're near the end of the season here but you're further north so may be a week or so later. Good luck!
