Song song với sự phát triển, đời sống vật chất và tinh thần được nâng cao, những mặt trái của tăng trưởng kinh tế cũng tồn tại: mất cân bằng tự nhiên, biến đổi khí hậu, ô nhiễm ở các đô thị lớn, rác thải không xử lý ảnh hưởng đến môi trường. Sự phát triển của nhân loại nói chung và sự phồn vinh của một quốc gia không thể chỉ được đo lường qua thành tựu kinh tế mà còn phải là tính bền vững của xã hội, cân bằng môi trường và hệ sinh thái.
Trích lời chia sẻ từ ông Binu Jacob, tổng giám đốc Nestlé Việt Nam: “Thay từ ống hút nhựa sang vật liệu giấy, khiến chi phí sản xuất tăng lên gấp 3 lần chưa kể chi phí vận chuyển và các chi phí khác,” theo ông Lê Anh, giám đốc phát triển bền vững công ty Nhựa tái chế DUYTAN cho rằng, xu thế đúng hiện nay xoay quanh 3 cụm từ: tiết chế, tái sử dụng và sử dụng được nhiều lần. Qua đó, việc sử dụng nhựa và các sản phẩm tái chế sẽ giúp nền kinh tế tuần hoàn được áp dụng và nhân rộng hơn nữa.

Along with the development, material and spiritual life has been greatly improved but there have been the drawbacks of economic growth: ecological imbalance, climate change, pollution in urban areas, negative untreated waste.
