This looks great. I never saw Forbidden Planet, for me he exists as the Robotoid - it actually sounds like a similar voice? I’d love a B9, I’d absolutely buy that in a heartbeat.
I picked up mine up as well, I love it. It's a bargain for what it can do, and I love the sound clips. It's a shame it can't make me bottles of liquor though...
The reason he has a torso that looks like a wash tub is because among the designers of Robby was Robert Kinoshita who used to design washing machines. The head things in his head that go clickety are called Sax Valves. the sound effect that's like crackling and sizzling are from the part in the movie where Morbius demonstrates one of the 3 laws of robotics, he tells Robby to shoo Leslie Neilson's character with a blaster pistol and Robby sort of seizes up...and that's the sound. The movie was released the year I was born.
I got two of these while they were still at Walmart in their clearance area. They were marked down to 10 dollars that day. Wish now that I'd bought all four they had on sale.
I haven't seen the Robbie The Robot or the Iron Giant since 2020. Maybe they're on ebay, but I'm not really sure. I'm guessing these toy weren't very popular or else we'd be seeing more of them.
@geekinitwithjimclassic8240 I think you're right about them not being big: I did see some on Amazon, but the cheapest was 50$. I appreciate the thought, and maybe this chain will make another person happy!
Did you mention it was only around $20. ? That's a great figure for that $. I went to Megacon Orlando last year, this one guy wanted $100. dollars for it, absolutely nuts!
@geekinitwithjimclassic8240 Excellent video, that's the 1st time I've seen it walking. Haven't taken mine out of box yet, will do when I get some down time.
Nice. One thing: The film was produced by MGM, not Warner. Also, the door you called a "hard drive" was his sampling port. One inserted a sample of anything to be reproduced and later - somehow - Robbie would create a huge supply of duplicates. E.g. when "Cookie" wanted some booze, Robbie drank a sample from his bottle and later created 60 gallons - in labeled bottles!
@@geekinitwithjimclassic8240 I think you're right! I have this as a notification on my mobile!! Love the Forbidden Planet movie - it's still a good watch. I remember being terrified by it many years ago!
