This video lecture discusses the force exerted by the jet on the curved plate/vane when it is moving with velocity "u" and (1) plate is normal to the jet axis and (2) plate is inclined to the jet axis.
Basics: A fluid jet is a stream of fluid issuing from a nozzle with a high velocity and hence high kinetic energy.
If this jet strikes an obstruction placed in its path, it will exert a force on the obstruction.
This impressed force is known as the impact of the jet and it is designated as a hydrodynamic force.
Since it involves dynamic forces, it always involves a change of momentum
Therefore, when a jet strikes on a plate or vane or object, it exerts a force on it (due to change in momentum) can be evaluated by using ‘Impulse-momentum principle’
