I don't think Hyena was kept part of this movie was just for the theater experience or to give a mass cameo like Shivanna in Jailer to receive audience whistle. The Hyena exactly represents Parthiban's character in the movie and the way Thalapathy carried it was just awesome. Writing a opening of the flim is a art. Lokesh always establish whats is the nature of those characters very well in opening itself for example Master opening with shot for both JD & Bhavani's leg to show how the characters walk and how stable they are. Here coming to Hyena there is direct dialogue reference by Parthiban himself like "Hyenas always prefer to live in packs and if a hyena is alone here then it might have went lost" (Representing Leo) & "It is running out of fear but people mistakes it and try to hunt it down" and this is what exactly happens to Parthiban rest of the flim🫡❤️ And all perfectly connected to the last "Subramani" scene💥. Just watched LEO, I usually agree with Jammy's take on movies. BUT NOT THIS ONE. Leo was an Out and Out entertainer. I did not find movie going down in 2nd half Infact i found it maintaining same grip across its running time. Its a must watch. Loki delivered again. Also Anirudh understood the assignment and has done the fab job especially the english tracks they blended so well with screenplay.

The hyena didn't just exist.... It showcased a deeper theme, as the hyena which is a pack animal being alone and amidst innocent ppl after losing its pack. which is a parallel to Thalapathy's character being a violent guy who had a pack but now alone among innocent people...

The Hyena is a metaphor for the Vijay's character which you realise after the movie ends. "A deadly wild beast that usually stays with its family/pack, gets separated and lands in a peaceful valley among innocent people. It changes its ways when cared for. And finally brings out its inner beast (true nature) when its new family was in danger." A perfect connection between Vijay's character and the Hyena. The Hyena's entry in the climax worked for me. A very intelligent work by tge director i would say. And i like how the director choose the Hyena. It being the natural enemy of the Lion ♌. I have been watching your videos for long now and really like your work. But was surprised that you weren't able to make this out and called the Hyena irrelevant. Also, the Hyena's CGI was beautiful and the car chase's videogamish CGI looked deliberate. Should wait and watch what the director has to say about it. Also, the LCU aspect didn't look forced to me. Its like the director took the MCU way, the whole movie belonged to Leo; much like a character introduction. And finally was being recruited to join Vikram's force. The director has already made it clear the Rolex is the main villian in LCU. And it'll be interesting to see how Vikram, Dhilli, Leo and Amar tackle him. We don't even know if Santhanam is actually dead. So, there's that. So, the weak villian aspect is definitely not going to be a problem when looked at LCU as a whole. Edit after 2nd watch: There’s this song playing in the background which goes “inga villain yaaru da” which translates to “who is the villain here”. Also, after killing Harold, Vijay’s character says “I haven’t done anything good in the past to talk about it”. So, it’s like the protagonist and the antagonist of the movie are the two shades of Vijay itself. And the rest of the characters are just playing along. Also, we don’t even know if the flashback narrated to Joshi is actually true. It’s neither narrated by Leo or the Das brothers. Also, parallelly Trisha is being told another narrative by a so called childhood friend of Parthi. By the end of the movie we realise that story is made up and there’s no reason not to be believe what Joshi was told also could be made up. Also, the guy who gave the flashback peek to Joshi just told him about what happened on a single day in 1999 and not the entire picture. Also, do you think Anurag Kashyap would have agreed to play that 5 seconds role. I feel he could have a meatier role in the upcoming movies from LCU which could show us the actual past of Leo. Leo and Rolex are almost of the same age and it is very much possible that they would have crossed paths in their younger days. (Rolex says it took him 25 years to build his empire and Leo had been gone for 20 years) Lokesh could also be cooking up some spinoff series connected to LCU. He did say that in one of his interviews. I don’t see any other reason for using Anurag in this movie. I would love it if you could have a second watch considering these points and make a detailed analysis.

Why do you feel the retro song fight scene was forced? That song was not just for the sake of it, it was used to catch the attention of the spree killer. Without that song playing in Tamil the spree killers attention wouldn't have been caught and he could have gone to any other shop. Lokesh gave a reason for why he chose that shop among all others.

I don't think the LCU aspect was forced, it's the characterisations of villains that were weak. Just a constable is enough to bring the hooting in theatres, such is the foundation of LCU. If they have concentrated more on the flashback, the payoff would have been better. Nevertheless, theatre experience was mad maxx, this was miles ahead than whatever the shit Atlee cooked with Vijay post Theri!

Leo is the first movie where Lokesh had to visualize a character's backstory. In all the other films, the lead characters have a mystery surrounding them. Leo doesn't have that. Personally, I enjoyed the movie except for that 15 minutes flash back. If that portion was really impressive we wouldve got a masterpiece.
@itsmedip1406
@itsmedip1406 8 месяцев назад
I guess this was the experiment Lokesh was talking about in a award function. Now I think lokesh also knows he cannot handle flashback scenes that much well. That is why he never kept any flashback for his films. In Leo he did it, and it is the only negative point of the film 😊
@armageddon9241
@armageddon9241 8 месяцев назад
Actually Leo’s past could still be a mystery. The flashback was neither narrated by Parthi or the Das brothers. It was by a third person and only of what happened on a single day. Also, there was a parallel narrative about Parthi by his so called childhood friend to Trisha which turned out to be false. So, there is no reason to believe what Joshi was told could actually be what really happened. We have to wait for the future LCU movies to know about the real Leo I guess. Either it was a poor flashback as shown in the movie or a brilliant move by the director with a fake flashback which could have been executed better.

Its funny how many of us become movie critics overnight (*ahem* comment section) . Firstly, no hype was generated by the movie makers or the actors themselves. We generated our own theories , LCU, blah blah and sorts and built our own hype and expectations. The movie connected for some and didn't for some. Well what can we do about it , rant all possible alternate ways of the story? Cook more theories? What will it amount to anyway? . Vikram was a masterpiece , given its element of surprise. LCU was coined by the same people who are criticizing Leo. So if there is anyone to blame here, its the audience. The day Loki announced Leo, people went rampant on LCU . And now when they got what they wanted , they expected it to be more organic and have that same element of surprise.Seriously???

I just felt that, he left too too many things in the story half told. He didnt explore how Leo got the drugs across the border, he didnt explore the past fully, he didnt explore the connections to Vikram... All of these and many more small small stories were half covered and left, which I guess is to be covered in Kaithi 2, Vikram 2 and Rolex. But I just feel at least *some* of these stories shouldve been fully explored... And what you said about Antony and Harold is absolutely right about how rushed the past was and how that most anticipated part became the weakest... I feel so sad for Vijay, he broke all his bounds, he swore, he gave stunts, he cried, he danced, he sang, he did everything PERFECTLY..... Perfect example of a hero saving a movie... I still think there is hope tho, that many half filled plots left of leo's past can be covered well in the next LCU movies... Fingers crossed

Spoilers !!!! When it comes to the 2nd half, the narration became slower due to the flashback and it is understandable as the flashback is necessary for the story. But the flashback was short and chemistry between the Das family isn't properly established unlike the Parthibhan family. One thing I understood is that the flashback was there to make the protagonist realise that the criminal family he was born to didn't even have even an iota of humanity, which he realised when his twin soul sister Elsa (played by Madonna Sebastian) was stabbed to death. So he firmly believed that Leo Das was dead and he had nothing to do with the Das family further. This is how I perceived the 2nd half.

Same opinion, LCU part was well established in the first half itself but in the end they could have made some changes like making a connection between the man who call Vijay in the end. For eg:- He could have been the one who helped Vijay 20 year's ago to live a peaceful life by erasing every records about him as we know he is someone capable of doing that and thereby making a connection between them so him asking a favour for what he did 20 years ago wouldn't have made it look forced. That would have solved the loophole of the backstory too on why he decided to live a normal life without getting back at them immediately. I tried my best to not spoil it entirely 😂 Anyway Vijay deserved better for giving it all 😢❤❤🔥🔥🔥

I hope the film may have fleshed out way well if lokesh was taken more time in the writing stages and preproduction because I feel the movie was completed in a very quick span and this had affected the movie. Even in a interview Neslon had said that beast can be turned out well if had spent more in the writing and due to improper availability dates and futher linesup of movies of vijay and pressure to complete the movie quickly had into turned into mess. I think the hustle in the casting the superstar and completing the movie shoot in a less timespan has turned out the mixup in second half. I hope it should be not same case in Prashant neel's Salaar. Here are some reasons why I think Leo is a very good and epic movie: The acting is superb. Vijay gives a career-best performance as Leo, and he is supported by a strong cast that includes Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun. The action sequences are well-choreographed and exciting. Lokesh Kanagaraj is known for his stylish action sequences, and he delivers once again in Leo. The music is excellent. Anirudh Ravichander's score is both catchy and atmospheric, and it perfectly complements the film's tone. The film explores some interesting themes, such as the nature of violence and the importance of family. Overall, I think Leo is a very good and epic movie. It is well-acted, well-directed, and well-produced. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of action movies, Vijay, or Lokesh Kanagaraj. Here are some specific examples of what I liked about the movie: In the first half, there is a scene where Leo is confronted by some thugs in a cafe. He tries to de-escalate the situation, but they are relentless. Finally, he is forced to fight back, and he does so with brutal efficiency. This scene is a great example of Vijay's acting skills and the film's excellent action choreography. The song "Nareddi" is one of the best songs I've heard in a Tamil movie in a long time. It is a catchy, upbeat song with a great dance sequence. The song is also used to great effect in the film, as it provides a contrast to the violence and darkness that is about to unfold. The film explores the theme of violence in a complex way. Leo is a man who is capable of great violence, but he does not enjoy it. He only uses violence when he has no other choice. The film also shows the devastating effects that violence can have on both the victim and the perpetrator. The film also explores the importance of family. Leo is a devoted husband and father, and he is willing to do anything to protect his family. This is one of the things that makes him such a relatable and sympathetic character. Overall, I think Leo is a very good and epic movie. It is well-acted, well-directed, and well-produced. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of action movies, Vijay, or Lokesh Kanagaraj.

@@pavithravellingiri I'm not sure why people are trying to pull it down, but I'm guessing it's a combination of factors, including: The film's high expectations: Leo is a big-budget film directed by one of the most popular directors in India, starring one of the most popular actors in India. It's natural for people to be excited about it, but that also means that there's a lot of pressure on the film to be perfect. The film's genre: Leo is an action thriller, which is a genre that is often criticized for its lack of originality and over-reliance on violence. Some people may be predisposed to dislike the film simply because of its genre. The film's star: Vijay is a very popular actor, but he also has a lot of detractors. Some people may be trying to pull the film down simply because they don't like Vijay. Despite all of this, I think Leo is a good film. It's not perfect, but it's entertaining and well-made. I went to this movie only and only to see lokesh's movie. The movie was fine but there are some moments which could have been given more importance. I think instead of extending the last fight, they could have given that time to show flashback in a more elaborative way of exploring the relationships between these characters. Anirudh's bgm did not give me chills as it did in Vikram.

Okay, Hear me out. I think people are misunderstanding what the 2nd half is about. It feels like a completely different movie, especially something like the old commercial movies done by Vijay, because it is supposed to. I was thrown off by how off the flashback portion felt but this interpretation made sense as the movie progressed. I think this whole movie is a meta commentary on Vijay's career. The flashback portion is the Vijay we've been used to seeing. 1. Over the top stunts with poor wirework 2. Vijay being a gangster and finding redemption after a traumatic event 3. His usual sister sentiment 4. Going against his father 5. His usual mannerisms The Parthiban portion of the movie is an analogue of how Loki perceives an action star should be. A deeply flawed human who has an external as well as an internal conflict he has to overcome. The fact that the action and writing returned right back to form once the flashback ended is what sealed this interpretation for me. Parthi also mentions that if he wants others to believe Leo is dead, he has to first believe it himself. From the way Vijay fit into the character of Parthi, I think he might have started believing. Also keep in mind that this is not the first time Loki has used an actor's career as meta. The whole Ghost storyline in Vikram was a commentary on the assumed dead career of Kamal Hassan. The fact that the leads' names were not mentioned in maanagaram was a meta indication of the actors' relative unpopularity. Let me know if this makes sense.
@krishnakumark464
@krishnakumark464 8 месяцев назад
Damn, never thought about it this way. Okay for Vikram, it makes sense, the once upon a time there lived a ghost was a metaphor for kamal's career. Not sure about the other two movies tho

05:00 I'm sorry I have to disagree with this part for sure. Hyenas lives in pack it got separated from their group and finally made a bond among the parthi family forming a pack(I'm completely ignoring the domestication part of Hyena for the sake of film). Similarly when Leo Das come out of his gang he form his family and starts a new life. I believe the director is establishing that Hyena and Leo are the same. That's why vijay has empathy for the Hyena and agrees to give a second chance even though the Hyena has caused a destruction for the society.

I give you the metaphor & one's bond with the family but the integration & big reveal of the hyena being called upon on speaker phone did nothing for the film in my opinion. If one looks at Napolean & his involvement in the film, I think it was supremely effective but Sumbramani and the bald eagle just did not work for me. Each to their own of course
@theviking7118
@theviking7118 8 месяцев назад
@@TriedRefusedProductions the scene where hyena was called infront of the goon was actually well planned , as the goon got blood by the bucket while entering in the other room, hyenas sense blood from very far distance and here it does the same, the thing is that just he knew that the hyena would surely come and it comes!
@karthiiraja17

@@TriedRefusedProductions I agree with the eagle part. I believe there are some deleted scenes of them bonding which would have made sense at the end. But I felt no connection when vijay started chatting with eagle as if they are BFFs 🤣. I dono if u don't understand the reference or u did subramani is stereotypical name which people give to a dog(especially in Tamilnadu) which is why it is funny calling Hyena as subramani making him a family familiar pet.

This is definitely, for me, better than John Wick, a million times over 🤷 I do have to disagree about the background score being “forgetful” because it’s exactly opposite to that I’m thinking maybe because I don’t watch many movies myself these days. Maybe if you’re a viewer that’s very familiar with Indian cinema these days would find the experience different 🤷 Regardless, it’s a very entertaining film, go watch it!
