Imagine being mad your neighbor has some harmless reptiles that don't affect you yet you have a dog that barks all the time and can do much more damage to you then a ball python.

This is horrible, it’s not like the reptiles are disturbing anyone :(

Honestly if i found out my neighbors had reptiles, my first question would be "Can i meet them?"

Imagine being mad over reptiles that don't even affect you or live anywhere near your house wtf edit because the more i think about this concept, the more its baffling: like im terrified of spiders but i would never think of trying to get someone evicted bc they kept them as pets?? like that's actually crazy and people need to curb their self importance

My apartment: *ABSOLUTE NO REPTILES* My bearded dragon: Quietly sits in window to watch outside. Neighbors 7 toddlers: Constant screaming, leave trash outside, destroying other's flower beds. Me: I mfing hate this planet...

This is ridiculous, shouldn’t be kicked out for the reptiles ever

Took us 2-3 months to find a place to rent and some of the excuses/replies I got were. • The lamps are a fire hazard. (Like...what? of course lamps are fire hazards...I don't see a rule against someone having 20 standing lamps in their house?) • They will get out and be stuck in the walls and die. (The most common reason and is ridiculous.) • They are venomous. (Legit this person thought all snakes were venomous to some degree.) • Basic fears/concerns about them "free roaming" in the house. Got this question 80% of the time asking if I free roamed them. Some places which said yes, required us to pay a deposit GREATER than a cat deposit. You know... a cornsnake in a tank totally does so much more home damage than a cat's nails.

Your neighbors out there acting like you have venomous reptiles that are constantly escaping. But no, they're just paranoid and rude because they dislike reptiles. "Oh no! Those harmless reptiles living in secure enclosures are so dangerous!"

I lived in an apartment with many reptiles that I just didn't mention. There was an inspection and the apartment owner freaked out, and threatened to evict me if any reptiles were left within like 3 days. They reinspected my apartment 3 times. I would just move them to friends houses for the day and hide a few in my closet. Rules against caged animals are ridiculous.

I've been working in property management for 5 years now and when I say that we would all but laugh at someone for complaining about you and your reptiles I mean just that. You seem like a nice responsible person the animals are kept in excellent condition and care. What is there to complain about?

Where's this house at? I wanna buy it and turn it into a reptile and arachnid exotic pet store with a big sign on the front that says, "We Love Creepy Crawlies" which will be the name of the store. It'll have a picture of a cobra on one side and a black widow on the other side.

The same happened to me but we had purchased the home and there were no bylaws against keeping exotics. A nosey neighbor with binoculars claimed to see a Cobra and Giant Anaconda. The health inspector was called looked at the collection and how they were kept.We had them all in locked cages in a locked room and all kept clean! He was impressed with the collection and didn't find any reason we should not keep them.He spoke to the neighbors and told them they have nothing to worry about. They than started a petition to have our reptiles removed along with our senior Rottweiler and 11 month Cane CorsoThis went to court the judge said his hands were tied because of the Condo Rules(they changed the rules and also had the City of Elliot Lake pass a new bylaw) We were able to keep the dogs but the judge ordered we remove the Reptiles but did give us a fair timeframe to do so.We sold the home then the collection shortly after it still bothers me after all these years!

My local neighborhood technically didn't allow any "exotic pets," which I think includes anything other than a dog or cat. But for 26 years I lived here with my boa constrictor, just didn't take her out much, except into the backyard, which you can't see into. I kept a low profile. Towards the end of her life I had to take her to the vet a few times, and one or two neighbors saw me transporting a bag that had something alive in it, but if anyone had asked I could have always said I was keeping her for a friend. It really bugs me that people are uncomfortable with harmless reptiles. People should live and let live and mind their own business, imho.

Bruh my old neighborhood didn’t allow snakes. Jokes on them I got one anyway and they never found out lmfao. I also moved somewhere else that doesn’t exactly have restrictions on pets as long as they follow the state and other laws-

Good luck at ending a lease early. Most places will make you still pay until your lease runs out. Hopefully you have a person rather than a company for your landlord.

You know what they say, good fences make good neighbors. Bored neighbors will look for anything to fight about, & early onset dementia / similar conditions start with aggressive bs like this. Edit; bad owner, the mice got to the light fixture wiring too, that's why they just covered up the outlet; "you don't need to fix what isn't there..."

When we moved to my current apartment, my first question was whether they allowed any pets, they said a small hamster cage might be OK, so ofc i now have two giant rat cages that take up half of my room.

This is ridiculous, a dog or a cat is much more destructive and disruptive than reptiles, I can’t believe people are to stubborn to realize how harmless pet reptiles are.

I’ve met some of these kinds of baboons. I myself am not the biggest fan of reptiles (not scared of them though) but I still find them mildly entertaining.

It really must be nice to be able to do 1500 a month for a whole house. In California 1500 will barely get you a one bedroom bath apartment

Small piece of advice for future shelf building projects, adding something like a sheet of plywood to the back of the shelf will brace the whole thing and hold it together alot better than just the side planks and the shelves. Hope that helps 😁

My boa has struck at the glass twice now when just being around both times was when it was time for it to be fed again but I don't see why someone would want to return it for that. My boa is actually really good with handling and has never struck at me while my hand was in the tank or even hissed and will even climb on you from his tank if he is in his exploring mood.

My landlord came to my house and saw my reptiles. She has an iguana so she was super happy when she saw them. So glad she let me stay.

He's so upbeat, calm and blase about everything happening in his situation and honestly I commend him. I'd be STEAMINGLY pissed, cussing, chucking middle fingers every time I made eye contact with someone. And then even the person who wants to send the snake back... for acting like a snake. Having just purchased a house, it makes me so grateful to not have to worry about a landlord flipping the switch on reptile policy. Additionally, hearing him talk about mortgaging a home I just realised that eventually some of us will have watched this person grow from a child, to teenager, to adult, and possibly even parent.
