You know that you break a beacon at the same speed no matter what tool you use. So the pickaxe is just a waste of diamonds.

His lack of helmet didn’t matter, he had full armor bars anyway, so even with the opponents having the helmet they all had only 80% damage reduction.

It's funny, you don't need a diamond pickaxe to break a beacon, you can break it with your fists. Since it is crafted with a nether star, mojan didn't want players to lose a had to obtain it. Edit: at least in newer versions

You do not need a diamond pixaxe or any pixaxe to Breck the beacon, you can brake the beacon with your hands and you still get the beacon and you can brake the beacon at the same spread as and pickaxe
