The Ford XF had its engine removed because it was a) not running right and b) I wanted a V8... this is the 'not running right' engine that came out. After stripping it down you can see what the big issue is... and the effects of neglect. leave your comments and ideas about what we should do with the engine on the FB page linked below.

I know this is a really old video but this is exactly what i needed to see. In depth videoof a 250 crossflow as im looking to do an engine swap into my tf cortina. Most likely its going to need a full rebuild.

Thanks for the video. Not sure my ears will ever recover from the music though. Down side to using headphones with YT.

I had an '82 XD with the first of the alloy heads about 15 years ago. It had the single throat stromberg and a tiny exhaust off the factory manifold. It was gutless. Not knowing much about cars I got myself a Gregory's wshop manual. Going strickedly off the book alone and zero experience I pulled the head off. The back of the valves were reeeeeally choked up with carbon deposits. I just chiselled it off cleaned em up and reseated the valves with some lapping paste. I "match ported" the intake (removed the lip where the manifold mates to the head) and cleaned up the factory dags further in the ports with a drill and some $2 grinding lollipops from Silly Sollys. Put it all back together, adjusted the tappets by ear, bolted on a Webber carb and manifold from an XE/XF and had a 2-1/4" exhaust made to fit the factory exhaust manifold (couldn't afford extractors). I tell ya from then on that motor was a BEAST! And that engine later went into a speedway car. They are just such a forgiving engine and have so much potential and are in my experience super easy and very forgiving to work on.

Man thats good news lol, Im looking to put the engine in the video in something else, I'm out of room in the current shed to do much at the moment, but am keen to rebuild it, but untill i know what its going into its a little hard to know what im going to do with it.

Had an 83 XE Falcon...most common engine issue is number 6 cylinder head would corrode and eventually leak coolant in the 6th cylinder.

Love the 250 such a solid engine. Big horsepower to be found with minimal outlay if you're so inclined.

This latest build will be the first time I tackle the bottom end and essentially a full rebuild. This ones an iron head '79 and has been sitting for 10years. Should be fun. I'll be watching your build with great interest. Hope you can give me an idea of where to source parts and approx $$ as you go. Very keen to see how you go with forced induction. 😎

The biggest killer of the old 4.1 is that bloody autogas, and modern oils...and neglect, seems the older they get, the further apart the oil changes get...i run 20w 50 in my old gals...GTX If i can get it. I had a bloke say to me that they crack heads, i said to him thats the owner mate...always make sure your cooling system is in good order and run coolant np

@@American-Jesus were not sure. All we know is they won't fit the North American 200 straight 6 cylinder block. If you tell me your email I'll send a couple of pics to you within the next few days

Engine code of car it came from. If you don’t have that you can either check stroke and bore. Stroke which will be slightly longer, or bore which will be slightly smaller if it’s actually a 200

Yes but some work required on the block as the non crossflow block is not as wide as the crossflow

Cool video dude, I just stumbled across your channel by accident but I will start watching a few more of your videos, good to see the kids have a go too, some of the best times of my life have been in the shed working on cars with my old man. Xflows are reasonably popular now days and it's not too hard or expensive to 220hp out of one naturally aspirated there's a forum called www.ozfalcon.com.au with heaps of tech info about building xflows and alot of the guys are willing to share any info you need from just rebuilding a stocker to one member who has a natural asp xflow running 11.50s down the 1/4 mile in an xf ute

Thanks mate, I appreciate it, ill have a look at that page thanks, Im looking to get something else to put the crossflow into as a project, but would love to get some power out of it NA the XF has another engine going into it, but the 250 is such an easy engine to work on without all the electrics! Later this year ill send it off to get looked at for the rebuild, once i do some reserch around what I want to do with it. Thanks again for the info, appreciate it.
