Really nice job. I love the Bluegrass music but, that was really nice of you turn it off so we could hear that lumpy little engine. Now you and the boy go and have some fun.
I have an old farmall i always wanted to do this to. But i am no machinist I can torch weld and turn a wrench but building an adapter is out of my league.
"I love this, did you use a late 60's 302 flywheel and bolt on the 8N pressure plate and 9" clutch? I'm wanting to do this to my 2N, From looking at parts the late 60's flywheels look like they would be a direct bolt on for the Tractors clutch setup... ? I think they use the same 9" clutch etc? If you know please let me know. Thanks
Used a Flywheel off a 1977 Ford F100 302 . Have to redrill the hole pattern from the 8n pressure plate to the Flywheel. I guess any 60's-70's Flywheel would work. Used what I had laying around
If you were to swap in a V8 like this for a similar tractor that was a backhoe, do you know any engines that would run at a lower rpm similar to a tractor engine?
That is the only adapter that I made for the 8N tractor. It was a figure it out as you go deal and I made no drawing.I think Awesome Henry or someone like that offered a 302 adapter at one time but last time I looked they didn't offer it anymore.Anyway if you attempt to make one, make everything from the crankshaft center-line and the transmission imput shaft center-line .
@@jimmypopp2695 Had to build that adapter out of 4 pc of alum plate because I didn;t have any plate thick enough to build it.I build most my stuff from junk I have collected over the years.Takes me longer to figure things out than it does to build it some times. Wished I had made a drawing.but did not.The engine on that tractor came from the first car i ever owned.I still have that car.Anyway I wanted to correct the short answer I gave you. Thanks for the comment.Glad you like my Tractor
@@MrBarrymundy Thank you for the more detailed answer. I have an Oliver 550 and watching you build the Ford made me rethink adapting a v6 or v8. I only have a 1920's lathe and not a nice big one at that nor a milling machine so it is probably out of my league for now. thanks again.
Can I ask how thick the spacer is between the motor and the trans axle??? Thanks. I have a 4 cylinder flathead in mine right now which is a 1947 8N but want to put in a 302.
I don't know what the distance is from the back of the 460 block to the flywheel. You would have to do some measuring and figuring to come up with the thickness of what the adapter would have to be. I don't know what the diameter of the 460 flywheel is either. So I can't tell you if this will work or not
Still got it. This was my Dads Tractor (but did not have this V8 conversion) so I will always have it Only fire it up a couple of times a year for the local Tractor Show. Still runs the same.
There isn't a subframe you idiot the engine is the frame the parts you are referring to as a subframe is the radius arms and drag links how stupid are you ?
