Curt, you're still the best in the industry for explaining things so clearly. Always love your videos and easy to understand presentation. Good on you, mate!
After waiting 2wks for a rebuilt AOD to come, it came, and yup, lever arm was 180* off. I took my old one out, but wasn't 1000% sure I could put it in the new tranny correctly, until I found your video. Thanks a lot. I appreciate the help. Now back to my Mustang.
I love this video I searched high and low for a video that explains how to remove the linkage on the AODE trans to replace the control solenoid that underneath it....THANKS SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!! because of you i was able to do the job successfully....I will be a new subscriber to the channel.... Monster Transmission rules!!!!!!
I'm currently in the process of putting a new transmission in my foxbody mustang.. I needed the gear selector off of the old transmission.. Who knew it was as simple as a roll pin.. Kind of felt stupid after that lol.. I neglected to remove the gasket.. I would have never know it was there lol. Video was informational and very helpful, thanks for posting
Thank you for a fantastic video! As a guy that's had his head into everything GM for a long time, you answered every issue I had precisely and concisely :)
For a roll pin that is down in the case with no projection, try using a small sheet metal screw into the pin to remove it. The pin does not fit tight. Very informative video.
I had read, somewhere, that the valve body had to be removed to change the linkage. Once I got the pan off, I saw that I could get to the nut without removing the valve body. I found this video to confirm my plan. Thanks guys!
thank you very much sir... this video really really helped me a lot.. on a problem I was having issues with my linkage was down side and I needed upside
Excellent presentation. If all instructive videos were done in this manner... the novice would have a much better shot at accomplishing the task at hand. Well, well done.
I know this post is old but great video U had a question the linkage u removed that is attached to the rooster tail I finally got my transmission to shift out of first but I have a leak coming from where the nut mounts in the outside that holds the line pressure lunkages I thought there was a o-ring in there but didn't c it us there a way to stop a slight drip without removing that entire assembly
There is a seal that goes in there, but all you should have to remove is the T.V. lever which is on the outside of the case. If you need anymore assistance Antonio, give us a call at 800-708-0087.
I have an 86 crown vic with the aod . I replaced the filter and fluid . Before the fluid was black and i didnt have reverse . Now everything works but when it warms up it acts like it doesnt want to shift or pull
Ricky Martin It can either be called a "rooster comb" for how it looks, or an "inner manuel lever". If you give us a call at 800-708-0087 the client care specialists will know exactly what you are talking about. Thanks for asking.
I have a 97 f 150 4x4, I put a motor in it and it will shift into reverse but does not seem to have forward gears. It has good fluid and the right amount. Any suggestions?
Can you guys do one on adjusting the GM (Alero, Cavalier) shift cable that attaches to this shift lever? It has that black housing and you have to remove a clip to access the adjuster portion. Not much on the net for that yet!
Hey Ed, thanks for the question. We don't have any plans for that model. Feel free to Subscribe though just in case we do at some point. If you have any more questions feel free to give us a call at 800-708-0087, Thanks
I used this video as a guide to help me flip my selector lever (changing from column shift to floor shifter), but afterwards, now the transmission does not seem to engage "park" anymore, and the "reverse" lights stay on in P or R, vehicle only starts in N. What in the world did I screw up?
crazycracker289 The internal linkage is not hooked up correctly then. Check back through it. Either the manual valve is not connected in the correct groove or your park rod is in the wrong hole...if you removed that part.
Monster Transmission Here is what I found; the lip on the trans pan was stopping the lever arm from rotating all the way into PARK. Originally facing the other way as this trans came on a car with column shifter. I bent the lip of the pan a little and I think that will solve the problem.
If you have a linkage arm like in the video you will have to remove a roll pin in the case to remove the linkage and access the seal. You will need to drop the pan to access it. Curt mentions the pin at 6:38 in the video.
Got a 4r70w that goes into drive no matter what gear is selected, sometimes reverse doesn't move at all but only if you play it. Neutral is always drive, did the reverse clutches weld themselves or could it be this?
Hi, Excellent video and fantastic website! What is the extra component you add to the internal tv cable shaft to prevent the lockup issue you mentioned? Thank you for any information you can provide.
Thank you Christina! We add a bolt and nut to the internal TV cable in order to help prevent the binding issue that accrues when the TV lever is applied aggressively.
i have same trans 04 maruade i getting 2 codes po173 and p1740 do u think if i change my tcc solenoid in the trans that be my problem car cuts off sometime shifting from park to drive and o/d light flashes sometimes and when i take off i got too stay on gas to keep it going ..wat do u think....thanks
I've just sit my newly modified 351W and AOD combo down in my 1968 cougar xr7, my question is this. can someone post a picture of this transmissions gear positions from the outside, to get a side view. Cougars have floor shifter, so I use a rod. where is park, neutral, 1st 2nd? I will tell everyone thinking of doing this, giving me headache, especially driver side header, you are not getting a factory exhaust manifold in that space, it isn't happening. still working trying to find a header that will fit. Any ways, I would like a good drawing depiction my gear selection positions.
My 1994 Crown victoria Only has reverse gear . Felt as if i was slowly loosing pressure ._before i accelerate it Would roll back first ._. I changed the transmission fluid and filter and switchselinoid ._.What Could be theproblem ?
i popped something in my transmission while switching gears back and forth while stuck in the snow. now it đon't go into gear, not even park. please advise.
+Shenita Allen If you can drop the pan and look at the shift linkage. Your linkage may have come apart. If you have any more questions feel free to give us a call at 800-708-0087, Thanks
I have a Ford Mustang 1991 and the transmission has 4 gears but it's not giving me the 3rd and the 4th The car sounds like once it does 1s gear 2nd gear the car suddenly sounds like if it went nuteral and it doesn't go anymore faster because it sounds like if it had no 3rd gear or 4 gear I Changed my speed sensor and nothing...
The band could be the issue. Suggest checking the tv cable. Make sure it is adjusted correctly. If the TV cable is adjusted correctly then the next option would be to check for the gov. If you have a strong kick down though, the gov. is fine.
For a 92 grand marquis what happen when all ur gears make ur car drive.. the car has p n d overdrive l my car is p d d overdrive l plz help I do not want to sell this car
I have an AOD is that the two pieces I need to have my Kick down cable installed? www.ebay.com/itm/361554526834 www.ebay.com/itm/321923555081 Carburetor I have is not holley neither Edelbrock just the normal one two bodies Regards
Yes it does have to be hooked up. It wouldn't be a kick down cable but rather a T.V. cable and if it isn't connected properly it could cause your transmission to burn up.
