I know this is an old video... but for anyone wondering about there aod, especially after a service, if you tighten the filter bolts to tight, it can cause the valve body to twist just a little right at the valve by the filter. Make sure you only tighten the filter bolts a few inch lbs....
Thank you I also Had the same issue bought a AOD out of a junk yard and would not shift no matter how much I adjust the tv cable.The AOD was sitting for years purchased a bottle of the KW stop leak for transmissions took a few runs on the jack stands but at the end tranny is shifting now thank you for your video 🙏🏼🙏🏼
55 hear too, have one tore down now & rebuilding it, was in grandma's car, 70's miles on 87 Grand Marquis, I put new intake gaskets & left the tv cable of by accident & in about two weeks I'd burned up the over drive & reverse, clutches and bands toast, waiting on some more parts & ready to put it back together, I'll take note of your experience, I didn't know how to adjust that cable either, figured some friends could help me or tell me what to do. In two weeks? you are lucky,the TV cable off a tranny will burn it up in a mile or 2 , i read a manual one time that adjusting that cable a millimeter is the equivalent of so many psi,its a very finicky cable,i see a lot of people adjusting it with that wide ope throttle technique and thats not really good, best way to do it is how they did it at the factory, no slack but no tension either, they call it "putting the cable in neutral", you basically pop it off the throttle body,push the white adjusting clip out, line it up with the throttle body but dont put it in,once its lined up,push the clip back in to lock it and slide it in in the throttle body hole and your done,no slack, no tension, this is how millions of Fords left the assembly line.
pull the tail housing and remove the governor because its stuck! Those suckers get stuck because the case bushings get worn dropping pressure to the rear of the shaft where the governor rides or trash gets into it binding it. dumping trans x in will swell every seal in that transmission to the point that if you ever remove a servo or other part it will be a fight and the old seal will be 1/3 larger !
Well I had the same issue. Got an 85 with a junk od. I put a rebuilt one in from an 83 wreck that had sat awhile. Well it wouldnt shift past first. I put that stuff in and I ran it up to about 40mph then it shifted. The shifts got smoother the more I drove it. I'll fine tune the tv rod some but it's ready to go now.
It's possible the additive you put in the aod blocked off a internal leak, adding pressure back to a circuit that was lacking some. Just a thought. Informative video. Thanks.
TV cable not adjusted correctly will quickly destroy the transmission... The TV adjust the pressure, low pressure causes clutches to slip and burn, quickly !
I'm having same problem just put a engine in a 1986 ford truck that has been sitting for 6 years and hesitates to go into gear and won't shift out of first thanks gonna give it a try
I have a 1984 F150 with the original 302 and AOD transmission. It sat up for almost 25 years after the original owner died before the widow decided to sell it I have done a lot of work on the engine and now working on the trans. I have the same issue as you it will go forward it will go back but I can't get it out of 1st gear I took your idea and put in transX How many miles did it take for you to get it to shift out of first? I've driven approximately 3 miles and no changes. I did drop the pan and change the filter and gasket and put in 4 quarts of fresh trans fluid and the transX.

The trans x.. I just put an aod in my 1949 f1 behind a 302 it also had been sitting over 2 years the first time I drove it had a very late 1-2 shift having some experience from messing with the first aod I knew I had the TV adjustment pretty close I think what happens with a lot of aod transmissions that have been sitting is the governor in the rear tail shaft is sticking the trans x helps free it up you may need to remove the tail shaft and clean the governor it needs to move very freely I hope this helps on my F1 I added the transx put about 20 miles on it without adjusting any on the TV linkage and the transmission started shifting fine like I said I think most of the trouble is in the governor in most cases
@@insanebydesign6083 thanks for ur reply, my mustang was sitting for awhile before I bought it could of been a year or , everything shifts good into gears, but it wont shift out of first gear, fluids r topped off and no leaks , I will get a trans x today n go try it out n see if helps with the issue to help clear the trans
Brodie Croc did it work? I’m having the same isssues, 68 mustang with an aod swap, sat with no fluid in the trans for almost a year and it’s not shifting. Transmission was rebuild before it sat. Might get some of this tomorrow and see if it helps
