If the dealer refused to reimburse the customer, call the Ford factory rep. Because it is not the dealer that has to fork over the money. It is the Ford manufacturer. I was a charter pilot in small jets. An Identical problem almost killed me...a female terminal in a multi pin connector could slide and "retract", making intermittent contact with its male counterpart, even though the plug housing was nicely locked together. This resulted in the "glideslope" needle failing to the center position, which, during an instrument approach to land, "center" tells the pilot that he is doing fine, when, in fact, I was too low, over Teterboro, NJ. Normally, a warning flag alerts you of a failure, but this open connection didn't trigger the flag. The sleazy company, being unable to find it, kept sending the plane out. More than a year after it almost killed me, it almost did the same to a friend. Multiple other incidents occurred between the two very close calls. (Things the paying passengers are unaware of..haha) The retracting terminal was finally found. I'm also an A&P...didn't work on that, but I know these things can be hard to find. Some wire bundles are 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter, or more, all small wires, and they are all white. Identified by numbers/letters printed every few inches...not frequently enough. It is a real pain. That particular plane was probably made around 1980+/-..which is fairly common, they tend to be older than most cars I work on. Old wiring, vibration, extreme hot/cold cycles...I'm sure you can picture the problems. This Ford was a good catch, as you often do- good job! I enjoy your videos.

I just had a 2016 Fiesta with cooling fan inoperative. First shop played switcheroo with relays. Didn’t touch cooling fan relay (easily seen by their plier marks). They gave up. Next shop told owner powers and grounds good, take to dealer. Dealer charged 180 for an hour diagnosis and suggested replacing pcm, relay and fan. With my meter and doing simple power and ground checks I found no ground at fan. Battery acid corroded ground on framerail under the battery. The head of the volt was actually sitting on the rail beside the ground. Simple fix. Owner had over 500 bucks wasted at the other guys' places. Mechanics really need to take electrical classes!

Mechanics (as in mechanical parts) and electrics are totally different ball games. Happy Father's Day, Ivan! After you measured the 22 Ohm, I was expecting something like this, but from green crusties. However, that connector was pristine! The fact that a pin can come out loose from factory, makes me wonder if this was a one-in-a-million, or if there are other mystery problems, on other new cars of the same model, that stem from loose pin issues. This was a very well thought and very lucid approach, that you can't expect from a dealer - they would keep on replacing shutters and inadvertently wiggling the loom into temporary working, thinking they cured the problem.

Im an avid fan of Ivan, Eric O and others. Its basically common sense approach to the repair and the use of electrical diagrams, printed out and follow your nose. A friend of mine was having issues with his turn signal not working. Someone had butchered the harness in the back of the truck. I removed all of jumper wires and fixed them. Fixed the grounds. I printed out the wiring harness just like Eric O, i used my highlighter to mark each wire i traced. I bought a cheap voltage tester. At each connection. I tested each wire. I worked my way into the cab. I took apart the steering column. Again, more wires cut and taped. A non factory turn signal switch was installed on the cut harness. I removed the mess. Finally i had to replace the entire steering column harness. Now the final test. All of the lights worked and brighter lights for the turn, stop and back up and running lights. My friend told me a local shop had done this work. I told him. Its back to factory and your turn signal do cancel on its own.

Read a manual [on anything] that has a list of typical if/then troubleshooting tables. The technical writing just about always has holes big enough to drive a truck through. I'm guessing the oem had some remark along the lines of "loose connector" and pin quality [including seating in the shell] is assumed. A spread connector barrel is a rare event, absent brute force... I can't recall any publication ever mentioning such on any system. Usually that is a tech induced problem: an oversized test probe was jammed in or some such. Me? I have learned to bypass the prose and go straight for schematics: split system in half, and work towards the fault.

No, educate the dealers techs. They should have the best knowledge of those cars, plus the senior techs at least should be able to diagnose a problem, not just follow a flowchart. Speaking of which, that manufacturers process was rubbish to begin with but a competent tech should have spotted that like Carl did and reported it to Lincoln.

@@givemespace2742 dude. You should be able to troubleshoot and repair your own car with basic tools. Up until 2009 or 10 cars were fine. We didn’t need module in the alternator
@sumduma55
@sumduma55 11 дней назад
@@jeremypilot1015thank the government for that. The modules in the alternator is to reduce engine load and get better overall fuel economy. It's going to get worse before they force everyone into electric vehicles and refuse to allow you to work on them yourself - for your own safety.

My Ford Mustang had a harness recall during the pandemic. It took about 2 years from when I received the letter for them to get the part to replace it. I asked them for the old harness, but they said they had to keep it. I marked my old harness to make sure they replaced it but the new one looked quite a bit different so there were no obvious shenanigans.

The problem is do the techs at dealerships have the training to even troubleshoot to you level of expertise??? Do the dealerships if someone has the knowledge to troubleshoot as you do give them the time to do a correct diagnosis??? You do a heck of a great job showing your skill level. I so enjoy watching you and learning. I wish I had your knowledge on scan tool operation. Something I am going to get training in. Keep those great videos coming !!! With cars to work on today we all need all the help we can get. Thanks

Ivan, the Ford Dealership should hold their head in shame and pay. Like you said they are just robots not real geniuses like you. Your channel is without a doubt the best on the internet. Dave, Guernsey Channel Islands.

Bravo! you may be the only one willing and able! to fix that car, you saved the car and you saved the customer a ton of money, this is another video that SHAMES the dealer as they should be ashamed of themselves, the more people that see these videos the better educated they will be and won't let the dealer take them down the flow chart rabbit hole.

Ivan, you are still the rocket scientist I gave you credit for in previous videos. You are also more intelligent than probably most dealership service techs. I think your next life step is to be an educator to all of these low achievers and how pros fix cars. Thanks for a great and informative channel.

Of course they would refuse the reimbursement as is third party repair but once they watch video. They will be embarrassed by their work, they will know they'll lose customers if they see the video before going dealer. We'll see if that will go viral. Nice fix Ivan, with no parts required!!! Awesome job!!

good catch. i spent most of my life finding those tough problems like this. i never made a lot of money, as long i paid my bills and had a bit for fun & hobbies i was ok. finding the problem and making the repair was what it was about for me, starting about 13:40 in the vid made it worth the effort.
