Thank you! Saved me $120. Did it myself with a $8 filter. Good thing I did too, the gas coming out of the old filter was brown. I think it's the original filter. Just bought the vehicle at 186000km.

Thanks for the tip. The fuel filter seems to have been my problem with the engine light / code set was a lean engine. The filter had rust on the tank side and had to have been clogged, it is a wonder how it ran. The tip on the relay was great.
Great Video! Thanks. The first time I let the dealer do this the charge was $79.00 I did it myself this time, the part was only $15.00. I would recommend capping off the old filter on both ends before removing it as it holds quit a bit of gas! Also the next time I do it I will probably have some duct tape handy to secure the fuel line hoses upwards so they don't spill as much fuel! Its a really easy job but can be messy, I will just try to prevent the fuel spill next time. Once you do this job yourself it will be hard to pay someone else since it is so easy!
Hello, and thanks for writing. Of course I can't be sure with the limited information you have given, but from what you have said I'd suspect one of your vacuum hoses has either collaped or split. Look for that.

My wife's 2006 Ford Escape limited engine refused to die with the R3 fuel pump relay plunged off, it struggled to idle but would not die. Also could be noticed was noise from the intake valves and tubes. I have got a lot of gas leaked from the fuel filter connectors as a result and a check engine light for emission control. Many others believe that the fuel pump fuse should be plugged off (the smaller No 6 fuse).

Mine is not half way, its 1/3 from back wheels, so i raised the back up, 1 retainer is different, far from obvious how to "push in", hell to deal with.

The owner’s manual for my 2011 Ford Escape states that the fuel filter lasts for the lifetime of the vehicle and it does not need to be replaced. Is this true? I have 86k miles on my Escape and it has the original fuel filter. I only get 16.5 mpg because it’s AWD 6 cylinder engine. Will replacing the fuel filter improve fuel economy?
Great question. Words can have different meanings. "Lifetime" does not mean FOREVER, it simply means the average expected usable life of most vehicles. Manufacturers define this as either 10 years or 200,000 miles whichever comes first. COMMON SENSE is a much better guideline.

Change it or you will have an expensive repair called a fuel pump replacement.Plugged up fuel filter puts a strain on the fuel pump and kills the fuel pump.Some one at Ford needs to be strangled for coming out with that clip.I hate that clip,a real pain in the a%^ to release
Sounds like the Idle Air Control valve (IAC). Ford has an updated design made by Hitachi. You can buy the Hitachi one. It's cheaper and the exact same part as OEM.
So I have a 2011 escape that I was getting around 350 miles to a full tank now I'm lucky to get around 250...I've replaced the plugs and also the air filter and put a locking gas cap on and even ran some Lucas injector cleaner thru the tank like it was recommend but still getting the same 250 could it be the fuel filter or O2 sensors?? Please help lol
What you have done probably helps but remember, the PCM adjusts the air fuel mixture based on the fuel trim values. I would suggest a close review of both Short & Long term fuel trim. Your O2 sensors age and that can affect the readings. Good luck

Yeah but 2009 is when the Escape started putting the fuel filter built into the fuel pump as a "lifetime" filter so if its bad the whole pump has to come out. I have an 08 Escape thats started having issues so ive been trying to find the filter and thought i had a 2009 which is why i know about the difference. On my 08 escape the filter is directly under the driver side rear door almost in plain daylight but apprently the 09s have them built into the fuel pump.
