Thanks for the video your awesome! I have a 2005 Ford Escape 4x4 with this same issue. I love my Escape. Best running vehicle I've owned. It's just so rusty underneath it.
Omgoodness did I not only have to dig with multiple word phrases to find one issue with my Chevy Equinox but I just found your videos for Ford Escape rusted wheel wells which I also have this problem with only 89,000 miles on it!!! So glad I found your channel now Ive subbed and will be replacing after I get my equinox issue completed 👍🏼
Make sure you check out the different ways that you can get that done I appreciate the kind words thank you very very much here is the link to the playlist on the three different ways that you can accomplish this process I do recommend taking it out and welding in the new shock tower over the other two but they do all work very well ru-vid.com/group/PLWSrc_bUH2bWxAuO_lm1LFE6nxhz_L1I2
The Clay Way Yes it’s so cool to find resources from a mechanic that has good alternative ways for fixing an issue without breaking the bank !! Thank you very Much 💥😍👍🏼 I’ll be following you most def 😁
Thank you man . I'm in Ohio and have become the MAN .... @ repairing these. Glue & screw, only difference is I cut a good corner panel from the junk yard.. Like you I'm basically just doing these alot.
A tip to make removing old seam sealer easy is to take a small torch (butane/propane/map) and torch the old sealer. It will soften or burn. Then take a wire brush and it just comes off. Easy way to do quick.
Mine just poked through this week in spite of fiber glassing the slightly rusted well 5 years ago, Frame gone too! Could not have happened at a worst time as I am sick and disabled with back surgery..agh..Thanks for the great video!! going to have to try it I guess..I'm in Sterling Heights, wish I were closer to the west side of state, I would let you do it! Thanks again, and thanks for the God Bless at the end! :-)
Well I have pick up available… and I can tell you people have drove them from Connecticut and as far south as Tennessee and as far west as Minnesota so you’re basically right around the corner lol
@@sharpcarco Haha..I guest I am just around the corner considering. I appreciate the pickup offer, but it probably wouldn't be cost effective on an 05..EVERYTHING is rusting out, i just wanted to get one more winter out of it to heal up and get another vehicle..it is literally rusting apart, frame, front fenderwells, doors. I'm a certified mechanic, so maybe i stand a chance. Would love to give you the business!! Thanks Clay! God Bless.
Hey Clay, thanks for the videos. I wanted to add a pic ftom my escape hybrid. Not as much room with the battery. I was planning on flux welding but its like -20c in Ontario Canada and I need my car and to hopefully get another 60000 miles out of it. Not all of us have the money to just buy a new car. Because of the high voltage battery had to remove that bracket that sticks out. Also disconnected the battery main connector. Once warmer weather comes my way I will secure it more. Just wanted to show u how it looks with the battery.
Remove the Spot welds from the wheel well on the outside of the car it will make it simpler for you because the actual metal comes apart from the outside and then you will be able to drill out the spot welds around the top from the inside.
I used a osgolater..not sure if i spelled that right..the tool that is used in carpentry for cutting door trim etc..for putting down flooring..lol Love your video..but your doing it the hard way without that tool..
Well, I’m making RU-vid videos for people in their driveways. I don’t know what tool you’re referring to but if you wanna share an Amazon link to it, I will check it out and maybe produce a video where I use it if it’s gonna make it easier for folks..
It’s common on any of these doesn’t matter how many miles they have on them I do dozens of these a year and there is three different ways to do them this is my least favorite way of doing them but is a way you can do it in your driveway you would be better off just renting a welder and welding it into place but this repair is still working
@@sharpcarco I have a harbor freight welder cheap 90 amp, was thinking of getting Lincoln .30 quality spool and stitch welding plus screwing in some spots as well. My tower is detached and banging on bumps, I ordered the panel. I have the hybrid, so hopefully there's no issues working around the battery. Have you had any with the lithium battery in the back?
Accomplish Yourself No I’ve never done them in one of the hybrid so I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I think .30 welding wire is fine I’m pretty sure I use that or 35. So I think you’ll get by just fine let me know how that goes on the hybrid so I know if there’s something a little bit different about them thanks brother take it easy talk to you soon
I have a 2005 Ford Escape and currently going through the same thing!! Came across your video to find out what was the rusty part called😒 I don’t see it easy for me!! Only if I could have someone do it for me!!
Well if you’re near Michigan I do them all the time I’ve had them brought as far away as Connecticut and as far west as Minnesota and as far as south of Tennessee, If it’s something you need done you have to look me up on Clays AC and auto repair, on Facebook messenger direct message me I can give you the quotes on the different repairs
The same thing happened to my mother in law but it's on the driver's side and it doesn't look like there is a aftermarket part for this. Up here in Minnesota I'm not likely to find a suitable replacement at any junkyard. Is making one a possibility? I've got a welder, plasma cutter and a plethora of power tools. What if I just bought some 20-14 gauge steel sheet and formed it? The tower base plate is still solid so I probably won't have to do super complex forming, just lap it in bolt and weld.
Could you do a tutorial on how to repair rust on the front/frame of an escape!?!? I haven’t seen one on your channel. I have a 2002 Escape and my bumper is held on by zip ties atm! I used a tutorial to replace my radiator a few years ago worked perfect but I couldn’t put the bumper back on properly because of how rusted the wheel wells and front undercarriage was.
I have the same issue 2008 escape, just hoping to use it for another week while i get a new vehicle. But its really loud rattling when i drive, Will it be fine for a week of minimal driving?lol thanks
I have the same project to do. Besides the rusty wheel well, I have very little rust elsewhere. Do you have the part number? I quick search on Google I found one for $670.00 Canadian, ouch! Does that sound right?
That’s surprising to me over here in the states they’re about $250 US. It would probably cost about $65 to 100 us to ship one to you I ship a lot of stuff to Canada. That seems ridiculously high you can use the aftermarket ones I did a side-by-side comparison video you’ll have to look underneath my Rusty Shock Tower playlist on my channel and you can see the difference between the factory one and the aftermarket Dorman one virtually there is none
No, this is a very special repair most places won’t even attempt it. And even if you brought it to me I’m not not going to do it this way , the best way to Do it is wielding!! I only did this once and it was for this video . Btw just in case your not aware this is not a cheap job it takes 3 days to do one these the right way . It cost about 2500 to 3000 at most places that will even do it . I charge about 1750 so ..,. Sorry if that is bad news . But I have many more videos on the subject and I’m sure anyone could do this themselves if they have the time
Just discovered this problem with my Escape. Not really skilled at car repairs or have tools or time to repair. Live in Michigan what is a reasonable cost for repairs? With in an hour of GR.
Hello Kathleen you can send me an instant message to clays AC and auto repair on Facebook and I can answer all them questions about pricing etc. Most places will not do this procedure so people bring them to me from all over Tennessee Wisconsin Connecticut etc. etc. have a great morning
Pop rivets would work to absolutely, I made my process a little bit better. When you go to drill out the spot welds do it from the inside wheel well with the tire off
The frame looking section is not a frame in the traditional sense of the word it is not a lost cause it is fixable. The prices are set but I do not give them out over RU-vid. You would have to reach out to me on Clay A/c and auto repair on Facebook messenger. Send me a message through messenger and I will answer your questions about pricing
Well thanks for taking a look I did have another suggestion since the last time we talked it is about $40 a day to rent a welder from a rental shop so you could always keep that in mind
I have surface rust on my right rear shock area. Rustproofer shop said "don't bother cleaning it all off, and don't bother with the fender restoration either." Escape has 86k on it. All else is clean. Why would he say "don't bother"?
Probably because it won’t help the Rust is already in there and it’s going to be a problem in the future. But the good thing is I made several videos on fixing this problem so it shouldn’t be that big a deal when it happens
Usually about $1600 but I’m really not a gauge of what others will charge the way I do mine takes three days And is intended last the rest of the life of the vehicle Over the past year, I’ve had four come into my shop that had already been done a year before because people did not do them correctly . Just rust out again. So just because somebody will do one of these for five or 800 or whatever dollars does not mean that they will last. So keep that in mind when you’re thinking about how much it cost.
Sorry I don’t know many shops that I actually do this job but people bring them to me or I go pick them up, from as far south as Tennessee and as far east as Connecticut and as far west as Wisconsin, so if you’re within any of them States I might be able to help you out personally. You can either reach out to me on email which is thenewClayway@gmail.com (I get a lot of emails so it’s possible I will not see it) Or you can look me up on Facebook under Clay‘s AC and auto repair and send me a DM Hopefully that’s helpful for you
I don’t do this method for the public , I weld them in , could be as little as 1150.00 but most often it is 1550 parts and labor , this was an alternative way I showed people how to do it.
I have a 2007 Chrysler Aspen that I recently replaced the air compressor it's getting power from the relay to the compressor but when I hook the recharge hose to fill it with freon the clutch won't spin to receive the freon what's wrong
More than likely you have a bad low pressure switch or a bad high-pressure switch. You can turn the compressor clutch on manually so it will take in the Freon and sometimes this puts Freon on the switches and makes them work
Hello Ashley you can send me a private message on Facebook through my Clay’s AC and Auto Repair Page Or you can send me an email Thenewclayway@gmail It’s a quicker easier form of communication for me and I have a couple questions
I have an 2006 escape and I am replacing right rear tower. I need also left rear shock tower, and repair panels for right and left rear fender panels and under rear doors and I cannot find them on enter net. Only find right rear tower. Can you help me on who to look into to order them?
Well the dealership is the only place that sells that driver side, I have one of them, That I keep in stock for when somebody wants me to do one not really interested in selling it
Well I don’t get price quotes over the RU-vid channel because if they ever change in the future they will be set in stone here You can look me up on Clay’s AC and auto repair on Facebook messenger and send me a private message and I will send you exactly how much it cost
Hi Tina I don’t Quote over my channel, But you can reach out to me on clays Ac and Auto Repair on the Facebook Or you can email me at thenewclayway@Gmail.com
I you have to ask more than likely more than you would be willing to pay , don’t take it the wrong way when I originally started doing these, nobody would do them…. It takes me three days to do one of these the way that I believe is the correct way. And on top of that I’m not really cheap. But if you still insist on having the best person do it, you can reach out to me on Facebook under Clay’s AC on auto repair and send me a DM I do not share prices over public spaces
You said “74” after 45 years I would assume most cars would have some kind of rust issue. Ford Escape’s just happen to rust here on all of these in the north were there is salt . Cars like yours has more to do with age
Because that’s the way it’s done………. That’s the way the factory built it and trust me it’s the way it needs to be done or it will not fit properly and your big trim piece will not go back on correctly it goes on the outside of the lip the lip actually creates rigidity for the arch the arch takes the most pressure not the lip
@@sharpcarco sorry to sounds dumb wkth that question. Could i private message you somehow for another question i have a picture of my problem. Id greatly appreciate it 🙂
Funny thing is i found another vid if yours answer my question. Part if the floor is rotted and im not quite sure what to do since i dont have a welder and have already started this job
Haven’t had rusted out shocks luckily, but would have to be done about a rusted out rear wheel well in the doorway? The part that is typically covered by the plastic on the door has been slowly disintegrating
Good evening tracy, I charge $950. I’ve heard from customers that when you can find a place that will do it it’s generally $1800-$2200. Obviously they don’t do it the same way that I did it in this particular video but then again I don’t personally do this particular repair (screwing and gluing). Personally the only way that I ever do it for customers is replacing the panel with metal and welding them in. Hope that helps you let us know what someone charges you have a great day
@@sharpcarco I am an independent mechanic in Virginia and I saw this issue for the first time last week. I thought it was an anomaly until I started researching it. Your videos are great showing what all is entailed. I asked your charge as I felt it would be an honest quote. Plus, your personal quote is similar to mine. Mine"If you have the desire to do your own repairs then you can do it"
Well I spent all the time to make a video so people would watch it I literally get paid about 2/10 of a cent per view. And I understand your position but I use probably 30 different types of tools to do that and I already did it once in the video…. 🤷🏻♂️ I can’t remember everyone off the top of my head so I’m sorry for that… That’s the way people are nowadays they want it free and everything else that goes along with it….. i’m Surprised when people don’t always want me to just come over their house and do it for free to…. Not trying to be hateful but if you seen it from my position you might have not asked that question.
No I did not weld this one ,some cars nowadays don’t even have welds they’re glued together. I will however say this is the first and only time I’ve ever done it this way. But it is still holding up great. I do about 40 of them a year. And it was my least favorite way of doing them out of the three different ways that you can do these. I do prefer welding them in to any other method but not everybody has access to a welder Here’s a link to all the different ways that you can do these. ru-vid.com/group/PLWSrc_bUH2bWxAuO_lm1LFE6nxhz_L1I2
Gear1993Head xxx You know it’s funny because 2001 to 2003 doesn’t have this problem that’s because they used a different kind of sealer and they used something that looks a lot like dyno-Matt
@@sharpcarco I just got a 2005 escape for free from a family member. The rockers are shot and the passenger shock mount isn't this bad but it's pulled away from frame. Only has 100k miles. Does have a weird torque converter buck when driving under load. Thinking about fixing it up and running it for winter.
Yes I do….. I guess go to one of the other channels and let one of them help you out…. If you don’t like me talking that’s why it’s called the Clay way and not the Wayne way
Well I hope you’re not throwing shade my way. I’ve done a couple of hundred of these and this is the only time that I ever did one this way I did this because this is a RU-vid channel not Dans master mechanic Shop where somebody’s paying $2000 to have this Shock tower replaced. And I doubt you would’ve made this comment I’m not certain if you would’ve actually watched the video. Because in the video I describe exactly why I did it this way and that I would never do it this way again but it is an option and as a matter fact I don’t remember exactly when I did this but it was probably two months before I actually Posted the video. And it gets driven about 60 miles every single day I put a guarantee on it and I have not heard anything from the guy with no complaints so I do think it’s a suitable repair. Q: is your favorite way to repair them. A: absolutely not. But for somebody on a budget it’s definitely a way you could do it and it seems to work just fine
It comes to brakes, suspension, Nope you fix it right or not at all is my motto. The floor pan where it connects needs to be integral to the shock mount. Nope can't endorse that type of repair at all.
Well I’m assuming you’re trying to make yourself feel better by blowing out my candle to make yours brighter if you would’ve actually watched the video instead of skipping through it you would’ve learned that that was the first and only time I attempted that procedure and that I actually was the one to every first to do this on RU-vid and you’ll see that I have several videos on this particular subject. I’m not the one searching out the ways to do it cheaper but there are people out there that don’t have the same level of abilities that I have welding and fabricating etc. etc. and you just happen to throw shade on the wrong guy because you’re a complete moron… i’m certain during your searches of trying to repair this problem you probably came across to one of the other 10 videos I have on the subject. You probably won’t admit it because you’re probably some liberal piece of crap but if you watch any of my other videos you’ll find out that I am very skilled at this procedure and this was a one time one off. To help save people money. Even though I’m fairly certain you won’t understand something like that because your pockets are so deep but there are people out there that don’t have the same amount of money in their pockets like others have a good day douche bag
You have to look me up on clays AC and Auto Repair over Facebook or you can send me an email This is not a cheap wham bam thank you ma’am, job I do not normally do work for the public. This is one of the very few things that I do if you don’t think your vehicles were two grand even though the repair doesn’t cost that much you probably don’t want to send me a message….
