2011 - 2017 Ford F150 5.0L Water Pump, Thermostat, O Rings, Belt and Tensioner Replacement. the water pump also used in the Mustang, Lobo and Lincoln Mark LT. In this video we have a 2012 F150 with random coolant leakage from various sources that could not be easily identified. It appeared that the previous owner had coolant leakage issues and made futile attempts to repair using RTV.
The GMB Corporation who was kind enough to provide OE (Original Equipment) quality replacement water pump to perform this service. GMB is a Japanese auto parts manufacturer established in 1943 and maintains a global presence in the auto parts industry. Thank You GMB!
Considering the mileage of the vehicle, I decided to replace various coolant o rings susceptible to wear and failure along with the water pump.

I have watched a lot of ' how to' videos, but you get my 1st Place Blue Ribbon Academy Award for every category! Lack of blah, blah and excellent camera footage thrown in with lightning-fast precision was a joy to watch! Subscribed and appreciated, sir.

Great video, no blah blah blah about safety, proper coolant disposal, etc. Just straight to the point. Thank you.

I always appreciate your methodology and attention to detail, such as with the o-ring grease and never-seize. You may not be the next person to work on those components of that vehicle, but you're still making it easier for the next person. Recently purchased a 2010 Mustang V6 with 115k miles for my younger son, and have him helping me work on it. I'd forgotten how much easier it is to work on a longitudinal engine layout! Best wishes for a great 2022 to you and your family.

Have to do this today. Watched 3 other videos. This was IMO the best. I'm glad to see you address things like RTV use, cleaning the parts, and just doing it right. Not only that, you speed through video parts and get to the points that are necessary. Great job.

I finally finished after fishing inside the block for elements of the impeller that I found had shattered into several pieces. Aside from that, the hardest part is getting the pump freed initially. Thanks again for the video.

That steel tube that bolts to the w/p reminds me of the w/p job I did on a Dodge ram pickup with a 318 in it.

Great video. All the info and the speeding up once point is across is appreciated. Would you replace the tension pulley if it is not bad as a preventative measure? 106k miles. Just curious.
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro Год назад
As long as the tensioner moves freely without any hang spots, I'd leave the tensioner alone. You could replace the tensioner pulley with the belt for a nominal cost.

Where did you get the new o-rings for the y-pipe connector? Did they come with new water pump or did you have to order separately? Parts stores and even ford dealer don't have them listed to order.
@hardlymovingpro

It came with the new water pump.

At 5:05 you show that the water pump came with two additional O rings. Was one of them for the (metal) heater outlet tube, to replace the O-ring that fits down into the water pump? Thanks.
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 2 года назад
That's correct. The black O ring was for the T shaped outlet tube that fits into the top of the water pump.

When you fully drain the radiator how do you refill it? From the expansion tank only? Or does the radioatit have a cap?
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 7 месяцев назад
Depends. If no cap on the radiator, then from the expansion tank.

I hate when ppl believe that permatex is a fix. It’s a crappy bandaid. Rookie move. I had to fix my gf’s 14 F150 5.0 leak. Came from the hose o ring at the reservoir. But with 75K miles I replaced the water pump, t stat, that T coolant section but with the aluminum updated version, new hoses. That way i don’t have to worry about it for another 75K + miles.

ALL those 5.0's suffer from that SAME leak of the connecting pipe @ the coolant reservoir. Often MISdiagnosed as a different leak since coolant runs down the pipe and drips elsewhere.

Wait thought orange coolant goes in there not green

IMHO coolant color differences between manufacturers is a way to get you to pay high prices at the dealership or retailer. It's all ethylene glycol using OAT technology to inhibit iron and aluminum coorosion.
