The Fiesta is older than nearly half of the UK’s population. Launched in 1976, it has regularly been one the best-selling cars in the country during that time and often being the benchmark supermini for its rivals to compete with.
Click here for the full review: bit.ly/2vMPtgW
Now into its seventh-generation, it is available with either three or five-doors (69% of sales) while an Active crossover and a performance ST model will be added in 2018.
The new supermini is 70mm longer, 13mm wider, 20mm lower than before while the look is an evolution of the sixth-generation with softer headlight styling, a wider grille and horizontal rather than vertical taillights.
Inside, gone is the mobile phone keypad design which has been replaced with a simplified, cleaner look dominated by a floating 8.0in touchscreen for the infotainment system.
The SYNC 3 system includes pinch and swipe gestures, AppLink, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto let you navigate your smartphone through the home screen.
There are seven engines to choose from initially, made up of five petrol and two diesel variants.
If you are after a petrol, expected to take most orders (91%), there are two versions of an entry-level 1.1-litre with 70PS and 85PS each of which is fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox.
A three-cylinder 1.0-litre EcoBoost is available in 100, 125 and 140PS outputs. All of these are fitted with a new six-speed manual gearbox. The 100PS is also available with an optional six-speed automatic gearbox.
There are two diesel variants from the same 1.5-litre TDCi engine: 85PS and 120PS. Each is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Trim wise, choose from seven options with the lower spec Zetec anticipated to be the best selling; Style, Zetec, Titanium, Titanium X, ST-Line, ST-Line X, Vignale.
All models get Bluetooth, a 4.2in TFT colour screen, auto headlights; emergency assistance; lane departure warning; lane keep assist; and a speed limiter.
ST-Line adds sporty styling with a large rear spoiler, body kit, meshed front grilles, rock metallic alloy wheels, sports suspension and ST-Line exterior branding. Inside the ST-Line gets sports seats, ST-Line leather-trimmed steering wheel, aluminium gearshift insert, stainless steel sports pedals and ST-Line door threshold plates.
Titanium trim brings 16in 10-spoke alloy wheels; rear privacy glass; Ford SYNC 3 Navigation with 8.0in Touchscreen; starter button; cruise control; auto wipers; dimming rear-view; and Driver Impairment Monitor.
Prices start from £12,715. We’re testing the 1.0-litre Ecoboost with a six-speed manual gearbox in Titanium trim, which costs £16,795.
Our test car came fitted in optional Ruby Red paint (£745) and fitted with Advanced auto pack 1 (£500), comfort pack (£225), panoramic sunroof (£600), door edge protectors (£85), electric rear windows (£175), adjustable boot floor (£75), driver’s seat lumbar support (£50) - resulting in a £19,250 price as tested.

At first I didn't like the new design, compared to the facelifted version of the previous Fiesta (which we own). But in this colour, it looks quite nice actually

Great review. Perhaps the best review I've seen on this new Fiesta yet. All attention is drawn to the immediate differences between it and the previous gen; exactly what I need to hear. It doesn't look as good as the previous gen but I do admit it's not too bad in real life. Some things just do look better in person than in videos. I'm not surprised the Seat Ibiza managed to have a bigger boot; apparently it's boot is even bigger than the current Ford Focus! The Focus has like 316 litres but Ibizas got 355 litres. True if the seats were put down on both cars the Focus would have more room overall but in a situation where the back seats are needed for passengers the Ibiza is a strong rival despite being a smaller car.

What's the touchscreen like to operate whilst driving? My parents have the 2016 Focus and I find that very distracting whilst driving, I feel like simple tasks such as changing radio station or switching to auxilary/phone bluetooth audio take my eyes off the road too much, whilst the previous generation Fiestas had simple physical buttons which were much easier to use. Worries me slightly if large touchscreens become standard in cars, and such as in the new Tesla literally everything is controlled through, requiring many presses through different menus and sub menus.

One of the best reviews I've seen so far. ... The centre armrest is pointless unless the seat is at the lowest setting, and then your right arm is far too low to rest comfortably on the window ledge, so it's a decision on how high or how low to have the seat. You can't have both in this car !!

Great Video Review as always. The only things that let It down are the rear and the boot

Good review - I still wish you would say what mpg you achieve on test. I didn't like the shape at first but it is growing on me
@driversseat659
@driversseat659 7 лет назад
Jez Stokes many thanks. Mpg achieved was 42 on our test route (written under the claimed stats). Always try and say but often depends on sequence of filming.

Really great review. I'm in a great dilemma and i'm curious to know your thoughts if you had to choose between the Hyundai i20 1.0 100ps and the Ford Fiesta 1.0 125ps. Thanks in advance - Greetings from Greece -

Personally I would go for the Fiesta. It's better equipped, the interior design is better by far and it's supposed to be the best fun to drive in it's class. What did you choose finally?

@kvoudias
@kvoudias 6 лет назад

Keith Fernandes many thanks. It would be the Ibiza. Before always the Fiesta but there is just something about the Ibiza. It's now a slightly smaller Leon, which is brilliant.

Driver's Seat I just changed my 2014 Leon which I loved to a Golf. Bad timing as Ibiza FR would have been perfect for my needs. Thanks for sharing that. :)
@driversseat659
@driversseat659 7 лет назад
Keith Fernandes that's a shame but the Golf is a very good car, gives you that little bit more space and probably better residuals. Do let us know how you get on with it.

Having test driven Fiesta, Ibiza, Polo, Fabia and Corsa I have to say I prefer the Fiesta. I like the new one because the interior is so much nicer than the Mk7. The Fiesta has a driving feel that beats all those other ones listed and to me its all about what its like when I am driving.

In your review of the Ka+, you highlighted the ride as being particularly excellent. I wonder, how would you compare it to the new Fiesta, in respect of the comfort option here in Titanium trim? Does the Ka+ win for comfort?

Only gripe with the ford fiesta i find they are heavy on petrol, and i don't drive particularly fast either. I hope the new version is more economical
@adamburns1077

Tom Jardine Mine is fairly good on fuel, I have a 2009 MK7 with the 82bhp 1.25 engine, it's only the style+ trim so it doesn't even have a trip computer, but I filled up yesterday, drove to the coast which is give or take 100 miles, filled it up again and it took just less than a tenner.

I prefer the face lifted mk7.5 fiesta. This new car is growing on me but don't like the softer look
@driversseat659
@driversseat659 7 лет назад
Tom Jardine the last car was and still is a really good looking machine. ST-Line suits the new model. The new Fiesta will probably look smart in five or six years time with those softer curves.
@Matty12333
@Matty12333 7 лет назад
Driver's Seat True. It was kind of the same with the mk7 facelift, nobody really liked it at first but in the end everybody seems to have one
@Hinjima92
@Hinjima92 7 лет назад
I agree, the mk7.5 face lift is really nice! way more aggressive, at least from behind. The new fiesta is growing on me as well and the interior is way superior to the old version, hopefully there will be some aftermarket splitters and defusers for the new model. Here is a photoshopped picture of the mk8 ST-line lowered 35mm and on white bola b1 18'' rims, it actually does look very good! ibb.co/jzdFRR

The prior version design looks much more hotter , i don't know why they copied Vauxal/Opel Corsa front back... make it actually uglier . We need to wait 3 more years at least for a new design :(

Stick the new front cabin in to the previous exterior of the ford fiesta and there you have a great car.
