Has a black H plate RS Turbo way back in 99. Loved it but unfortunately it was stolen and never seen again. Continued buying Ford and currently run a mk2 Focus RS.
RS1800 Fiesta was sold officially until 1995 not 1994. Some were left on the dealers forecourts until early 1996, last registration letter assigned to this model was N reg
Ahh, the three spoke alloy conundrum! What a 1990's problem? Personally Saab Turbos, (99 or 900's) wore them the best, but I accept the Fiesta also wore them very well... Can anyone think of another car that wore '3 spoke alloys' better?
The early Dodge Viper, mid 90s Ford Mustang and Holden HSV VS models had 3 spokes as well, it's a very early to mid 90s look and they were all of that era.
@@Channel555555 Okay... I'll take your word on it! (Although I don't actually remember that particular model) But I assume it had those flared wheel arches that were all the rage after the Audi Quattro!
After owning a ST mk8 for four years I can honestly say it's the most fun car I have ever owned. I don't think I'll selling it either. Haven't had any problems with it and I can't really think of another car I'd rather have for the money. The way it attacks the twisty stuff is just bonkers.
pretty nuts to think that RS fiesta has more bhp than many brand new hatches, with less weight... thats what makes those old boxes still desirable today.
I love the RS turbo but having owned a 2020 ST Fiesta Mk8 for three years I can safely say it's probably the best car you'll ever drive and definitely the one I would pick from the two.
Shame you did not have a completely standard one to compare. It might have been good back in the day, but modern cars will slaughter it in terms of performance and handling. But perhaps not on involvement and feel. New ST is superb car. Good to watch though. 👍
Good video but the Hyundai i20N has been a great “analogue” throwback rival to the ST. Of course the same emissions rules have killed off both, which is sad. Buy either used whilst you can because both are astonishing value for genuine performance and usability.
I had a 30 grand hole burning in my pocket last week and nearly dropped the hammer on a GR Yaris. The only other car in the entire garage that made me look twice was the I20N and there were a lot of performance hatches there like the M135i XDrive, Golf GTI/ R and more A35s and S3’s than I could count. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the I20 and after being in one I was pleasantly suprised. They really did a good job on that car dynamically.
A few pointers here... You totally forgot the mk5 Zetec S, hot hatch? Nah, fun warm hatch? Yep The Mk7 also had the s1600 and metal edition, both producing 130bhp and 0-60 in around 8 seconds. Which again isn't the fastest thing ever. But they are fun to drive. The Mk6 Fiesta ST was also 150bhp, not 140. Many of them leaving with more than 150bhp. The MK3 RS Turbo will always be the much cooler car here, the mk8 didn't have the soul or character of a Fiesta. I'm sure made it to make people not want to buy a Fiesta, so they could push Pumas at people.
Have owned both a diamond white J reg RS Turbo and 15 plate mk7.5 ST2 MP215. Wouldn't have another ST. Would have an RS again tomorrow, though i wouldn't buy one at current prices. It just felt more special, whereas the ST was mundane AF
The most iconic is clearly the RS👌. That said compering two hot hatches that are 30 years apart is clearly a miss match. The MK8 would destroy the RS around the track. Especially with the Performance pack. Mk8 v MK7 are a more realistic comparison. Still both class cars. A shame Ford and other manufacturers are doing away with hot hatches 😢
41mpg isnt exactly mind blowing for a 3 cylinder engine. My M4 convertible that weighs twice as much with twice as many cylinders, twice as many turbos and twice as much power can get into the 30s
I used to have an RS Turbo in 2007 sadly it died from rust and could not be saved , also why did you drive like an old lady ? I as the viewer want to hear the engines being revved hard not driven at 50mph slow on a racing track lol
@@boosted2000Well I call bullshit. About 20 years ago I had a 1990 H plate tuned by Turbosystems and my girlfriend at the time had a white H plate too. NEITHER had those holes in them. Link me a page showing they had holes because I’ve not seen a single one on Google image.
@@luketaplin42 I've had both. The newer ST is much better to drive and more usable. The older one isn't. I get much more use and fun out of my mk7 than I did my mark 3. I've owned most shapes of fiesta apart from the Mk6. Depends what you want, a weekend summer nostalgia ornament or something you can actually use.
No sweat. Cool little vid for someone who has dabbled with the idea of Mk 6, 7 and 8 STs in period and never snaffled one and now the moment has passed.

I'd take the RS turbo over any girly looking fiesta ST, yes the ST's do go well ,,, but the Fiesta RS Turbo has more status and character than any ST ,,, " up the oldskool "
Of course modern cars are going to be better in terms of performance, handling and refinement than their previous models (most of the time!). But being in my 50's, I'm taking the RS Turbo for nostalgia, character and outright fun and, in my opinion outweigh the three improvements I mentioned about the modern car. 🙂👍
I remember all the problems with fords new CVH motors all down to people using the wrong oil and sludge blocking uo the oil pick up pipe, but all my god that wet belt st is nothing but a piece of sh1t, when someone signs on the dotted line are they told in 5 years you've got to replace the wet belt at cost of between £1200 - £2000. I think not and the new vw pick up and vans are using ford wet belt engine too. Thats vw's finnished.
To me the Escort and Fiesta Turbo were just Sales Gimmick Because everything was Turbo crazy, they could of got the same power from slightly modified RS1600i and Fiesta was slow for 1990
