Ford Focus in Limp Mode? Replace Your Throttle Position Sensor

My Ford Focus was sporadically losing engine power while going down the road. After many attempts to diagnose the cause of the problem (including many scans with a laptop), I resorted to replacing parts involved with throttle control.
What you see in this video solved all of my car’s issues. This opened my eyes to just how easy it is to replace a throttle position sensor and the importance of keeping your car’s throttle body clean.

Did this permanently fix the problem. Researching this issue, it might be the connectors to the TPS. Dielectric grease in the contacts might be needed for a consistent electrical connection.

You are welcome! Be sure to clean the carb if it’s black like mine was, and get a can of *carb* cleaner so you don’t have to use break cleaner like I did. It’s hard to run to the store when your car is disassembled. Thanks for commenting. :)

@@christianong6381 Oh! I was thinking of another video. The gears are almost certainly not sold as service parts for the Focus (my experience talking), but it might be worth asking a Ford dealer. You could buy a used throttle body from a salvage yard or a budget aftermarket throttle body (with throttle position sensor) for less than $100 and either use it as a total replacement or just rob the gears out of it for your OEM throttle body.
