I hate it when the oil gushes out. Nice job man handling that gear box. I use my Milwaukee 12 ratchet all the time. Great tool. Thank u Rob the sole proprietor.

You can get a softwood beam to support your engine; cheaper than one of those supports that sit on the sides of the wings. then get some chain to wrap around the engine, and a nut and bolt to do up the chain. Did my fusion like this 3 years ago. Probably need to tie the beam up from the back either side to stop it moving. eric the car guy has a video of doing a focus mk1, and he didnt use a lift.

Hi rob just had my clutch replaced yesterday as it was slipping, but today my wife has driven the car, and something happened with the gearbox where it wont go into gear. It has been mentioned by my father in law, that it can be common following clutch change, with either air in the gearbox or something to do with a 'clip' of some kind. Any ideas from you would be much appreciated!

@OneAuto
@OneAuto 7 лет назад
Hi Stuart, the front pipe nuts will probably be corroded, they are a normal metric thread but are like a brass coated thing so should come off, you may have to heat them. Just get yourself an exhaust fitting kit from your local parts shop. It'll have all you need.

Nice detailed video, what I was looking for when you test drive the car. I've had my clutch changed 3yrs ago and covered only about 20k. Suddenly clutch biting point gone high,next day struggled going into gear & started over revving! One garage said maybe because I didn't change the slave cylinder when I got clutch done has caused this and will need to do full kit. I'm baffled as it was a genuine ford clutch any ideas?
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 6 лет назад
I always replace everything including the concentric slave cylinder. There are many reasons for this including parts failure & driving styles. More will be revealed when your garage get the gearbox out. Thanks for watching

hi OneAuto, I'm planning to do my very first clutch job on my MK2 2.0L ford focus... Honestly seems like a hard job. I have a few questions if you're alright with answering: 1. Am I able to do this without a hoist and just some floor jacks to lift the car up? If so, would two in the front be completely fine? 2. At 9:00, when you were removing the passenger side drive shaft and you removed the boot instead, should mine be normally able to just be pulled out without removing the boot? 3. Is that automatic ratchet essential? Or can I do fine with just my normal ratchet. 4. Am I able to use a jack to hold the engine instead of an engine support bar? I await your response, if you choose to help out! Thanks a lot for the video, these are just small questions to ease my mind into getting the job done.

Hello! Pushing hard to get in gears, mostly when in gear at high rpm and upshifting with grinding noises, what should I worry about? Only the clutch kit or also the gearbox itself? I have a focus mk2 1.6tdci with original clutch kit and it is not slipping but changing gears is more than a challenge.. thank you!

Ehm... there is drain bolt. It's standard Ford's IB5 gearbox, i have exactly the same on my mk1 1.8 Focus and i changed the gearbox oil abouth two months ago.. It's the greasy bolt with the kinda two-step head at the bottom left of the screen at 7:56.

Nice clear video again Rob, Ive got a B6 Passat 2.0Tdi that sounds like a tractor when i release the clutch pedal (its noisiest when cold) and its a dual mass flywheel too :-( first gear is hard to get. With 230k miles on it, is it time to replace the clutch or get rid of the car? Whats your best guess?

Guys I have a problem. When I changed the clutch set + slave cylinder - the clutch pedal started to feel hard, and then soft, and then hard again. Even after bleeding the air out. I got a Comline clutch and after 5000miles the clutch's pressure plate broke and I changed a brand new LUK set. Also changed the master cylinder just in case. Still same. Sometimes the pedal is soft, sometimes it is hard. Also, it is hard when it lets the pedal go, something like the clutch is sticking? It shouldn't be like that with an OEM part. I am really mad.

Think the pressure plate was causing the slipping of the clutch because the friction plate was not worn down to the rivet's, pressure plate having weakened also uneven loading.

Great video once again mate! I've got a 56 plate with the same 1.6 engine, however if you can familiarise yourself with the leaky area around the sump at 7:27 - have you ever came across this before on these models? Mine has a leak of some kind which has trailed in the same spot, it doesn't look recent and may of happened in some point in the past but my local garage for now have cleaned the area & just said to let it develop and see if it worsens as to them it doesn't look like engine oil and does not drip onto the ground either. They reckon it may be escaped gearbox oil but I just wanted your opinion first before I take it any further with shelling out for replacement seals, gaskets and the like. Many thanks :)
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 6 лет назад
In my opinion if its not a bad leak and not even making it to the ground I wouldn't worry about it. Its a 12 year old car at the end of the day.
@LEK7686
@LEK7686 6 лет назад
On a flip side that's the way I see it as well, I've always checked under the car when I do regular tyre, oil, water checks etc. It was just one of those that stood out a bit but has not worsened in the time I've had it. Thanks mate!

My focus clutch was slipping as if it had oil on the disc, as it got a little hotter it would actually engage more about10 seconds, i renoved it but i could see nothing wrong with it it looked almost as good as the new one. My question is could the transmission be the culprit? Has anyone else had this problem, my second thiught is coukd the flywheel be worn or need to ve shimmed

Yikes. Thats pretty cooked. You know i've done quite a few Mk1 1.6 petrols, but i've yet to do a Mk2 focus. Its so nice to do with a lift as opposed to lying on some cardboard... My method of supporting the engine from above involves a large frame made of 2x4's. I don't have one of those nice rails. He manning gear boxes in and out isn't exactly fun either...
