With 0 mechanic experience I got an OBD2 device and got this done in less than 15 minutes. Solved all the issues. Awesome video and super easy to follow!
Also 0 mechanic experience. But had my step dad help me. He didnt have me remove the whole intake compartment. Just the part that is hose clamped on (the tube itself.) Seemed less steps that way.
Will say the thing that hung me up was not only does it use Freon 6-7x more expensive it comes in 8oz cans, and require a new set (the correct set) of gauges and tools to refill. Was able to do all the work myself and rent the tools, vacuum the line, do it all correctly and still cost me nearly 400$. Had it been the traditional 134a it would have been 60$. Be prepared!
Thank you so much! I changed the purge valve in my 2013 Focus using your video, and your explanations were crystal clear. My car had error codes P2196 and P144A before, but now they are gone. The issue was stalling and stopping when filling the car, but now everything works as it should. Thanks again!
Many thanks for the detailed video. I did replace mine as well with the slight variation that I didn't remove the whole air filter assembly, only the large rubber trubing by removing the retainers in both ends. I couldn't pull the air filter assembly enough to get it to pop and was a bit afraid not to break anything. But it all worked out fine. Many thanks again
Great video man! My check engine light came on in my 2018 ford focus and found out it was the solenoid and thanks to this video I changed it out in 5 min.
Thank you. My dad's car showed this code a few weeks ago and I was trying to find a solution to a problem he had with his oil but I could not connect the two until I saw your video. When you mentioned the code P1450 the code seemed familiar and I quickly got my OBD2 reader and pulled up the history and sure enough same code.
Awesome video bro. Literally the best I ever seen on RU-vid. I'm planning on tackling this job on my '18 Focus with p1450 code. Rough starts or sometimes just stalls after filling up gas tank but I've heard some people's focuses will just stall mid-drive if the problem isn't fixed. Anyways, thanks for the detailed tutorial and time you took to record and upload the video 🙂
Thanks for the video. I have a P046 code and just swapped in the new purge valve. I did snap off one of the two the plastic mounts on the bottom of the air intake box while removing it but fixed it with duct tape ;).
After removing the hose from the throttle body and ensuring that their is no debris in it either stuff a rag in it or cover it with a plastic bag to ensure nothing falls in it. Be sure to remove the rag or plastic bag and make sure it is clean before reinstalling hose.
Thank you! My problem was i'd be driving on the highway in the heat and lose all throttle and it would stall out, sending me to the side of the road. Still worried to take it out after replacing the purge valve, but do you think that should have solved it?
Loved this video. Question. After I installed the purge valve I cleared the code but when I check my code reader there was a code for dtc definition not found. There is no code on my dash board, only the obd2 reader. Should I worry about it or just leave it alone?
Yes that could be the purge valve, but also make sure your gas tank isn't sucked up from the purge valve pulling vacuum. The dealer can check that and there was a recall on it
What are the symptoms of damage to this part? Is the reason for the release of a quantity of air when inserting the fuel gun considered a symptom of damage? and it is the same location in focus 1.6 ?
I've seen several videos replacing either the purge valve or the whole assembly. I'm not certain which one I should replace but I do have p1450 and p0456 codes
Thanks to the video otherwise I couldn't change the purge valve, Big Shout out to Big Ben! May I kindly ask why the engine is still on after I replaced the purge valve since I got code P0456? Will it disappear later or I should drive for a while to see...
Dumb question. After I cleared the code and drove around I plugged the OBD reader again and it still gives me the P0456 code but the check engine light doesn’t come on. Anything else I should try?
The low pressure line appears to come as an assembly with the lines going all the way to the back of the car. If you suspect just the o-ring leaking you can try matching that one up but make sure it's exact and rated for fuel
I have been investigating my P0420 code (catalytic converter) and see that some people are saying that replacing the purge valve will help. I am quite certain it is NOT a cat problem and related to the sensors. The code is very intermittent, it will even go on and off during a single drive. I do not have any of the sounds people say attribute to a bad cat. Any advice here?
The cat is a very common issue on these, normally they just set a p0420 code and that's it. Yes, if the purge valve is leaking it can cause the code if the air fuel mix isn't correct. You can try replacing that first, and doing a tune up..and maybe the upstream o2 sensor. If you still have the code, I'd put an o2 spacer on the rear o2. Or spend 1400 on an oem cat. Up to you lol. Aftermarket cats are cheaper but will start setting p0420 again within months
I got a p2196 code right after filling up, didnt notice it being hard to start. I'm pretty sure I had the recall done when I recieved the notice. Is it the purge valve or o2 sensor?
Just used your video to take care of my purge valve in my 2018 Focus. But I always worry that I didn't put something back right and my car will explode.
What size Socket ? US Standard or Metric Socket ? Thanks for showing how to change this part....I'm sure if I had the Ford Dealer do it would be $500.00
Thanks. I'm rewatching your Video. Planning to do this repair in about 15 minutes. Unfortunately I purchased a small screwdriver to loosen the clamp. And a long Screwdriver since no Cat Claw. I'm traveling for work and doing this in the Motel Parking lot. Purchased replacement part from O'Reilly Auto Parts in Georgia. Wish I had seen you reply earlier before buying tools. I have a 7mm/ Socket set at home somewhere in my Garage in NJ
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles buying now! Thank you so much I will report back after fixing her up. I love my focus so much I’m gonna keep her for as long as I can🙌
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles I have a sound when I crank to start. I hear people’s cars sound normal crack and it starts. Mine doesn’t sound like starts it’s hitting but like if the car sounded old . Like how them old cars start their engines . Idk what it could it be
For sure. Just because Ford used plastic everywhere under my hood, doesn't mean it shouldn't be clean, and cared for. Everybody uses plastics. There is art in aesthetic design appearing in polymer parts design, by all companies still producing ICE CARS...the headers on my Fiesta....plastic-coated.... but somehow, still aesthetically pleasing.....and taking engine head covers off, keeps our engines cooler.... if you don't live in arctic conditions, you DON'T want a head cover.....@@BigBensCarsAndCycles
