The 2.0 Ecoboost is an absolute beast. Super reliable and decent power/fuel consumption. Got a 2017 ST wagon, but I'm thinking about getting the new one next year.
I have a 2020 ST-Line X. Overall I like what they've done with the update. Just really wished they'd kept the physical climate control buttons. They're dead easy and quick to use. I also think they look good too with the digital temperature displays. I'm not a fan of having to scroll/swipe/select through screens to do something, so moving the climate controls to the screen too is disappointing to see.
I have the same ST Line and i really prefer our version. For me, this facelift (front) looks like old Audi ... I dont like. Our version, is more agressive..if we have the same...
A step backwards. Pre-facelift had the rotary control for gear selection that opens the front seats and saves a lot of space. Can automatically put in park when turning the car off etc too. Also has physical controls for the media and climate control - well worth having a slightly smaller screen for! FYI, those integrated fog lights you pointed out in the headlights cluster are actually turning lights.
I think the rotary gear control still remains in lower trims. Don't know why they change it to traditional mechanism in the ST line. Plus the location of the drive mode selection button is very awkward
@@bradley1125 I can’t be 100% sure, but my understanding was, that the 7 speed powershift gearboxes have the stick, and the 8 speed automatic (eco blue) has the rotary
Heating/Cooling controls should always be physical. It's dangerous when you're driving and you're using the screen to turn/change the heating/fan. The leather seats look nice.
I have the new Civic sport touring. I do not need to take my eyes off the road to adjust anything. I noticed on another channel the person driving had to keep looking at the screen. I don't like that. I still hope this car does well. Competition among automakers is a good thing for consumers.
Looks a nice update, subtle changes but fresher. I wish manufacturers would not remove physical climate controls, I honestly think controlling this from the touch screen is awkward and unsafe. The hybrid engine is a great idea but really could do with a little better range. Ecoboost engines aren’t brilliant with many failures which is disappointing. I’ve owned Focuses for 20 years and love them but won’t update past my 1.6 petrol engine.
I have the 2020 ST-Line with pretty much al the options but in manual. Honestly, this model has improved on things the like leather seats and the digital drivers dial system, those are still analog on mine. Other than that I do not know if most of the changes to the 2020 face lift are a step in the right direction...
I'm glad Ford has introduced the Vignale trim across all versions of the new Focus - full leather seats and interior trim were never an option on the ST-Line and it totally needed them, as it gives a more upmarket feel to the interior. However, despite all of the improvements, the Focus Mk4 has been a target of cost-cutting measures along the model years, and the Mk4.5 has caught all of them which, as an owner of a MY2020, I can spot them from afar. No more storage cubby on the drivers side, no more shelf inside the glove box, ugly old school knob for side mirror controls, the engine bay is getting stripped to the bone, the list goes on. But hey, as long as the screens are getting bigger and buttons are disappearing, everything is okay! (Irony)
Prefer the pre-facelift model 100%, looks far more aggressive than the new facelift, this model with the updated front headlights makes it look like a SEAT, not to mention the lack of buttons forcing customers to mess around on the screen, surprised they didn’t update the alloys for the ST Line X, not a big fan of the badge being in the centre of the grill either. To top it off they have now fitted an Ipad to the middle of the dashboard when the smaller screen worked just fine. Was really excited to see the new facelift thinking it would look even more aggressive, but sadly IMO it’s not the case.
The badge is finally on the right place. They messed that on MK3 facelift, kept it for MK4 and finally it's back on the grill for this latest facelift, as it was on all MK1 and MK2 and pretty much almost all the cars out there... It might be taken as something unique, but it's ugly and I personally feel like it's wrong...
I was waiting for facelift, cause I have the rule not to buy pre-facelift models. Was very disappointed with the facelift and bought another car from competitors. Sadly 😥
@@pulga961 then they could have at least put the AC on/off button as a physical button instead of hiding it in a menu inside the climate control panel on the touchscreen.
@@pulga961 so it is safer to touch the buttons on the LCD screen instead of rotating the physical dial without even looking at it? rethink this and come back. BTW. I can set temperature in my Ford Focus using voice since 2012. One button on the steering wheel and with saying "Temperature 21". Since 2012. So rethink and come back
@@pulga961 what is done in a second via button takes much longer via voice, not counting for any malfunction or mishearing of the system. Also today its doesn't work to tell the system to play a certain album from an large music library e.g. Spotify.
It's typical for Ford, the same was for Sync 3 when the MK4 was launched, after a few updates the response was improved, so yeah, it'll be improved in the future, u just need to be patient :)
I’ve ordered an ST (petrol) I’ll admit I prefer the look of the pre facelift but it is growing on me the more I see it. I won’t care what it looks like though when the pedals to the metal and I’ve got a huge grin on my face.
IMO It's looking worse than before. The front is not so agressive anymore. I dont understand it. They made it due to rise of prices. We'll give bigger screen, slightly different front but the price will be much higher probably. Glad I ve ordered st line before lifting with 182 hp!
I have a ST-Line Turnier with 182hp and Automatic Transmission and I love my car. The Facelift is Ugly in the Front and again no Full LED Tail Lights. I dont understand why they make these strange decissions, like the move from the Fog Light into the Headlights.
Like this car but some interior details, buttons, plastic small things... looks nice in the overall but I would go with Kia Ceed GT Line when comparing these 2 cars. I don't see bigger advantage of that big screen, just looking at basic menus, there is a lot of empty space around in UI.
Thanks for such an in depth review. Nicely done. This car looks like a lot of fun. It also looks like some stuff was very cheaply made. Especially those cup holders. Look like they were about to break already. I think the young people will love this car. With Honda making the Civic look more appealing to an older generation. I'm glad to see Ford keeping in touch with the youth. They need cars too.
Focus 2019 before facelift looked much better in my opinion. Now the front of the car looks similar to a seat. On a big plus, a larger entertainment system.
I mean I have a Honda Civic Sport Plus and I'm saying this looks like a downgrade. Never had the pre-facelift Focus and would never get it. But the facelift looks even worse on the exterior with the strange looking front. Some of the interior upgrades seem nice though.
@@samanson2001 and that shows taste is subjective. I think this is the nicest focus ever made, inside and out! So much so im ordering the st line vignale!
The most fun part is that it has no protection from grit/small road debris. My 50k km St-Line started to RUST after 2 years and 6 months. Ford claimed it is not covered by the warranty. After long conversations and an official claim, I managed to get a big discount and both frond body parts above the wheel replaced. Be aware. St-Line is the only one that doesn't come with any built in or available to purchase protection. Front wheel arcs are basically an engineering error :) I love the ride but this massively pissed me off and I see that 2020 version is no different to 2018 in this regard.

Odličan pregled ko i obično. Da li se zna koje će izvedbe imati multilink straga?
great overview, thanks Josip. Looks like the Vignale leather trim will be a hit, interior upgrade & SYNC 4 is a welcome boost, missing HVAC physical buttons needs to be fixed (they are all doing it, not just Ford), as does the lack of rear climate options, not great for rear passengers either. externally looks very good (Magnetic will look cool), not sure about integrated fog lamp that high, lot of idiots on the road in UK with fogs on as they think it improves their view t night (no fog, just blinding everyone else). I wish Ford would improve the engine options/performance capability, 1L engines are fine for city use, don't really work in mountains/highland regions.
Great looking car. I have ordered the ST line vignale but How come the rotary dial has gone here on the automatic? Hope they haven’t gone backwards on the design here for a stick for auto.
Great reviews! Do we know if this model is going to come with an independent rear suspension or just a torsion bar like the lower end pre-facelift models? Thanks!
The only Focus Mk4 ST-Line versions that have / have had independent rear suspension are the SW, the 2.0 EcoBlue and 1.5 EcoBoost which Ford has done away with. Currently the only hatchback versions with IRS are the Active and the ST - the ST-Line will keep the torsion beam, which I'm told it is derived from the Fiesta ST, although IRS would've been a better choice even for the 1.0 EcoBoost versions.
every single generation Ford proves how much is trying to save on the most popular models. you will find the "savings" everywhere you will look. just look closer and more detailed and you will find it. After Focus MK3 (Titanium X) I won't be upgrading to any of the new ones. Had MK4 Vignale and I am happy that I haven't upgraded. The accounting department had a heavy few years trying to "take away" as much as they can so the buyer wouldn't realise how much was stripped off. Also. You can clearly see how much Ford is limiting so they won't cannibalise their own cars from different segments. Parking camera still without screenwash sprinkler and in the same place as always? one not so super sunny weather day and you will find that it is many times unusable. Autumn or winter time you will be dissapointed that you have to keep this little thing clean. bonnet/hood cover with a stick after over 20 years since pressure gas struts have been already present in different cars? It is not such a heavy upgrade to do (many MK3 users already added the gas struts) but Ford will still save on those little things. Engine range. Still going for 3 cylinders? Had Puma 1.0EB MHEV and few Fiestas with the same engine for many weeks. Same style of driving. Same roads. bah... even tried to squeeze as much as I can when it comes to fuel economy on the newest models. And? The difference is so minimal that all the "new" technologies are completely pointless. SORRY Ford. Never again. Ford Focus is one of those cars that are described as "cars that you have to really look after by yourself as garages and service stations won't be bothered to fix the obvious faults". The door seals are still coming off since 2011. 10 years later, Ford Focus MK4 has exactly the same problem that super glue will be something you will need to have as an "additional" accessories added to your Focus. Estate models not leaking water anymore? I doubt. How is the clock issue in MK4? Fixed after 27 updates? For 10 years the only model of the car I am troubleshooting/diagnosing/reading Internet threads about is Ford Focus (different generations). Never again.... Such a brilliant car to drive. Such a pain if you are an owner of one of them
Thank you for your experience. Unfortunately all cars are getting cheaper and more expensive. Just look at VAG group. It’s shameful. Cheap plastic everywhere. And they make more money it’s like ridiculous.
I've had exactly one problem with my 2014 ST3 in 120,000 miles (200,000 kilometers), and that was a fuel tank valve that was fixed under a recall in 2018 or 2019 at no charge.
@@boyteebah3794 I would recommend chip tuning after 10k km on the clock. If the car has got manufacturer failures then you can use the warranty. After the 10k you can chip tune it and you will even get warrenty on the chip tuning. I don't know if the Ford dealer can/will offer chip tuning so you will still have the same warranty.
Fords build quality had really gotten much better. Although hard plastics on the back doors is unforgivable, if they go to town everywhere else, why not the back Doors?
My Fiesta ST Line 2018 has a horrible build quality. Now 50k km but since new every piece of plastic seems to creak or rattle. Also problems with moisture. Seen multiple dealerships for it, no one could fix anything. I truly hate the car.
This Focus could sell in the United States. It's a shame Ford didn't release this car here. The same Ecoboost 4 cyl in the Mustang would make this car a beast.
Why a volume button on the right side of the. It should be left in reach of the driver. The new automatic gearbox looks old compare with the previous model.
I'd love to see the customer research which shows that people want digital buttons for climate control, heated seats etc. Far easier to operate with physical buttons and dials.
I’ve ordered one ,I’m getting my in March next year but Josip please explain one thing for me. In the one I’ve ordered the automatic gear box is a small knob that you turn . Not like this one . Why is this different?
Strangely the new Focus offers two auto gearboxes. The round knob is the eight speed and the traditional lever as shown here is the 7 speed power shift version. I think the 8 speed is reserved for the ST and diesel versions.
@@kev131tc ah ok 👍🏻 thanks I didn’t know that . This version has probably more horse powers stronger engine that’s why it’s the 7 speed automatic gear box instead of 8 speed . Not sure . But I think it has something to do with it .to get more torque out of every gear Yes you’re probably right I ordered the st line version 125 hk eco boost engine
Hopefully you can do the full 2022 Focus ST for us. Im sure that will have a engine cover on the production model as that doesnt look great. Its a shame they've taken away alot of the physical buttons on the centre console but it overall looms better. I have a 2015 Focus ST2.
These auto manufacturers really need to work on the refresh rate and latency of infotainment displays. It's 2022 man, there isn't a single reason why they can't be making these infotainment centers more responsive and smooth.
tengo 6 meses sin coche por falla en la caja, tengo un focus hatchabak y hasta el momento no me lo pueden entregar porque se trono la caja y no encuentran el problema, supuestamente ya le probaron 4 cajas y no queda....
Is this not the st line x as opposed to the st line. I say this because I thought the regular st line didn't have leather seats whereas this model does.
i wish the focus came with all wheel drive like the mondeo platform, especially with the active version. otherwise its a nice facelift although not that exciting.
To be honest, I prefer my 2020 Focus ST Line X Wagon. The old front looks better to me, my gear selector for the automatic looks way better and isn't that clunky. I'm no friend of oversized monitors and the climate control is way to much whiping and so on for something you could just do by pressing a button. But unfortunately I think we have to accept that this kind of interior will be the future... The only things I wish my pre facelift Focus could get from the new one, is the more accurate iLed technic, not for asthetics but for the technology, which is way more modern standard. And the electric seats are nice to have, WHEN they have memory function which I doubt the new Focus has. Greetings
Really too bad that this is not available in the US. There are many hatchbacks to elect here, but no Focus. I have had two of them and loved them both. I want a new car and have to shop elsewhere now.
Thanks for the review Josip. I have the current ST line and have just ordered a 2022 ST that will not be here until late next year. Can you tell me if the sunroof has a complete block out mode or an interior panel to cover the glass. I would like to order the sunroof but I am in Australia and if it can't be fully blocked out we'll get cooked inside. Not to mention parking in the sun.
3 cylinder 150 hp?? How is that a ST? How is that even a Focus? I had a base model 2013 focus and it had 190hp. My 2017 ST is 252hp. What has Ford done to this great car?
