Replacing a leaking valve cover gasket and worn tensioner on a 2008 Ford Fusion with a 2.3 4 cylinder engine is pretty easy. Only took me about 45 minutes.

Never use an air tool to remove or tighten the valve cover

Not sure if you were trying to do a tutorial or anything but you basically just showed us what the inside of your engine looked like. no instruction on which bolts and parts to undo to get to the gaskets.

Good video thank you for posting! It would have been good to hear how it sounded before, but that's just being picky......lol

There is some sort of plug/sensor etc between the left 2 and right 2 spark plugs. The video did not note how to remove it. ALSO: what was the symptom that was tied to the need to change the valve cover gasket? I am getting a burned oil smell when you stop driving and idle with no visible oil leaking. I change the plugs recently and did note a small trail of oil in one of the plug holes. Just trying to see if changing the gasket might fix my burned oil smell issue that seems to have gotten worse in the cold weather. Just odd I don't see it seeping onto the weird looking manifold but I sure smell it mostly on the passenger side. Thanx in advance for your response and thank you for the video!

Not the correct way to install that valve cover gasket. There is a bolt pattern and and torque ratio.

I have a 08 Ford Fusion and was told by the dealer that the valve cover gasket may be the culprit of a minor oil leak leading to a burn oil smell. What gets me is that I had them do a tune-up and, after watching you video, they could have EASILY replaced that gasket prior to closing it back up, but instead told me it would be another $155... and another 1/2 day without my car!!! Grrrr!! Anyhow, thanks a ton for this video! Looks like something I can easily tackle!! In the video, you refer to "RTV"... what is that? Is that the RTV Silicone sealant? Thanks again!!
@DanielJaegerFilms
@DanielJaegerFilms 9 лет назад
John Grampp Yes, RTV is a silicone sealant used where the timing cover meets the cylinder head and the valve gasket. The torque on the valve cover bolts is very low, like several ft lbs. I don't know exactly off hand, but it's not critical. Get them snug by hand and you'll be fine!

***** Another question... how do you disconnect the CrankCase Vent hose at the back of the valve cover? It is grey and black and I can't seem to figure out how to get it off and I don't want to break it.... Thanks again in advance!!!!!!!

My son took his fusion in for tensioner failure and replacement $450 they wanted to replace the valve cover gasket $450. My jaw fell open. IDK maybe worth it on a V6 but not a 4cyl.

Same mechanic just told me 900 to fix and clean the valve cover Belt, Tensioner, idlers,

Also, can you please say what the torque is on the valve cover bolts?

I will no longer use felpro or any other after market gasket they do not last longer then a year or maybe a little longer . I had a shop replace my gasket and 11 months later it was leaking again so I only use the oem type from motorcraft its worth the extra money and it was not that much more

This is an excellent video, thank you for posting! I do have 1 question though, if you don't mind...you mentioned changing the Idler Pulley; I need to do the same, but I can't figure out how to get to it, it's in a really tough spot and seems almost impossible to get to. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I'm very concern about the air compressor. It needs to be about three blocks away.

I have this same problem with the oil leaking in the same two spark plugs so I changed out all 4 plugs and when replaced everything my car was smoking heavy from the tail pipes any suggestions?

I have oil in the spark plugs....any idea if the oil gasket cover is going to fix that....but I'd assume that the oil rings are fucked

another question? how long does it take to replace your valve cover gasket? I Google's it and all I'm getting is videos on how to do it.
@TheDriftingStig
@TheDriftingStig 8 лет назад
2 hours would be a safe bet, an hour for disassembly, thorough cleaning, and reassembly, and another hour for the engine sealant/RTV to cure (he didn't show it but I hope he did it)
